Such a strange '80s clip: Wogon's aesthetic looks like something from the '70s, and Max Headroom's aesthetic looks like something from the '90s. It's as if they got in time machines to meet midway in the 80s.
Max Headroom was of course portrayed by actor Matt Frewer under layers of makeup and prosthetics, and a fair bit of electronic and video trickery. Now that technology allows us to create _actual_ virtual characters, why hasn't anyone created a genuine computer generated Max Headroom?
Matthew Frewer, raised in Canada, played the role of Berlinghoff Rasmussen in the Star Trek: The Next Generation fifth season episode "A Matter of Time".
You know that if you have money under a current government, it was because the previous government ceded it to you. Ususally a good government's non kneejerk policy woudl come in to effect years after they leave power.
@@kaleidoscoping-nm3hb I presume that was on U.S. or British TV. But not here in Canada, although he still became a legend in his own time. I have the U.S. TV series.
@@dakotanorth1640 There was a music video show here in Great Britain. The film I saw later and was amazed. Not sure why I didn't watch the others show. Probably should !
@@mellowvids9637 Yes, that was how Max Headroom originated. He was conceived as a different type of presenter for music videos, as MTV was so popular back then. He was a brilliant creation, too.
@@kaymuldoon3575 It was fun when he interviewed pop people who were clearly a bit on edge especially when Max was responding to what had just been said.
Back then actor Matt Frewer was in make-up and prosthetic's, with some sort of Amiga produced CG background. The stuttering was done to make him look more like AI generated. But the effect was good enough to make him look computer generated. These days, I could almost imagine Max Headroom being 100% completely remade in CG or some sort of modeling program and probably look pretty close to the original. Max Head Room could come back on Twitch or TH-cam , or something and just do the music video DJ thing again.
I'm not sure it was a resource shortage thing.....it was a chat show....they just treated it like they would interview anyone else.....I miss old Max....
since the cgi been using lately gets crappier on and on, I would be not surprised if in a near future their cgi presentators starts looking like max hedroom.
Matt Frewer is very entertaining, actually... i never had time to research it in the '80's, nor was there any place to do so. Watch any other interview, he's interesting. Just in this case, how the hell is the interviewer supposed to act normally? Look at any interview with a tv character and it's awkward.
Wogan was a total legend on radio before he moved to tv. His early morning radio show was unmissable. He'd have you laughing out loud at 6am. His interactions with his followers were legendary. How I miss that humour.

This is a perfect comment and should have more likes. Here’s mine.
The reason the 80s was so entertaining as a decade was that it was a bizarre mixture of the 70s and 90s. Not just this, but everything.
@@MissMyoozikaltwo years later, I agree. 🐐🤖🎉
Yeah 85 there were still 70’s aesthetics though by 87 I bet this dude had a different haircut
I remember max 😂headroom this is brilliant
Why does this feel way ahead of its time?
I cannot help but see some of Max Headroom in Jim Carey's performances.
Yes I also instantly had to think of Jim Carey.
I'm thinking Carey def found inspiration here, esp from his In Living Colour impressions.
Joe bidens performances too 😂

Good point. Possibly copyright issues?
He was (briefly) in this movie

@@nnnnmhughuuhhjiijj9457 He wouldn't be interested in a waifu as he doesn't like tea, so why would he need someone to bring him it.
too bad Zoom doesn't have a Max Headroom filter, with frame skips and glitches
That would be so cool. Last Zoom meeting I was in I was told that I had frozen, I had to explain that I was just sitting still and concentrating.
That would be awesome 👏🏾

That 🍁 explains the occasional inclusion of ⚜ French, and the local accent that is neither British, nor American.
Love Frewer... such a great actor... The most recent I remember him in was in Orphan Black where he played "Freaky" Leekie... Such a great role...
@@mtlicq It's also a very early entry in the now longstanding link between Canada and Sci-Fi shows
Clearly remember this on Wogan as a child. Thanks
The small lag in his movings are so appropriate
Awesome I miss Max on our TV
Max Headroom has the most delightful nonsense that I have ever seen.
how does he improvise so well?
I would make an educated guess that it is pre-recorded and Terry Wogan asks the question at just the right moments.
@@steve24822 I don't think so, I'd say Matt Frewer (Max) was there backstage dressed as Max, or maybe it was via satellite from America.
No pre recording. Wogan. Ran for a good few years. It was a live thrice weekly chat show. Mon Wed and Fri. About 7pm.
@@stevenmcnicoll5060 Not the entire show, just the video of Max Headroom. I doubt they would be able to do those effects in real time in 1985

Max Headroom was one of the best thing to come out of the 80s.
This man is fantastic. He is also a Bobcat G.
Used to watch the TV show. Was a really good watch for an 80s show

Introduced us to loads of cool music. Birthday Party and Cabaret Voltaire being two that I remember from that show.
