Hey Paul and the Cod crew. Two of my friends were in Cleveland yesterday and had the free time to tour the Cod. They enjoyed the tour and the attention paid to them by Pat, a former nuke head. Thank you for making their trip to Cleveland such an enjoyable time. I will visit eventually, but grand kids come first. Cheers!
4:29 I know it isn't believable, but I did 10 years, half at sea, and barely drank. Just not my thing BUT! I did have the opportunity as an enlisted to drink beer on the ship, and I took it for no other reason than it was an extremely rare opportunity. I dont even like beer 😂
We don't know what became of Cod's ORIGINAL megaphone. We found both of our current ones in thrift stores. The first one (brown color, in the video) was damaged when it fell onto the armored deck of the bridge. Our current one is the correct gray color and is featured here.
Paul, there's a fuzzy hedgehog crawling up your collar. HA! Thanks, Paul. Seriously, I've never heard or seen any clips of a submarine refueling at sea. Was this not done, accomplished in port? Just curious, since mention was made of replenishment.
@@paulfarace9595 Be sure to show off your conning tower and the lower-level spaces of Cod. I'm pretty sure he's not gone there on any of the other boats.
How in the the world did you manage to break a megaphone? They are so simple a piece of equipment. Someone must hae really worked overtime to do that. LOL!😅...

For those going metric remember that a megaphone is a million phones.
Paul; I would like to thank you, now I'll have Winchester Cathedral in my head the rest of the week.🤣😂👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
Earworms are just an extra benefit of these videos.
We had megaphones on our amphibious ship. On the bridge. The Captain at that time loved them. After he left the new captain didn’t care for them
You forgot to mention another important benefit: it was a secure means of communication, no radio to intercept, no flags or lights to be observed.
Underway replenishment always has a laugh or two. Especially when that first line is passed and someone yells "I got it!".

There was quite a big wasp behind you Paul.
Could be a dunce cap for hazing the new guy.
Paul has to stand on the brow. He doesn't have a gun turret to stand on like "SOME" people.
Ohhhhhhhh youuuuu!!!😅
In Germany we call this part a whisper bag (Flüstertüte).
On LSDs at least through the '80s megaphones were used by the Bosun during well deck operations.
Thank you for sharing this history.
Always great stuff, Thank You!
Evan went over the side? Should we have a moment of silence for him? RIP Evan.
After about thirty minutes they eventually got him out. We had to make sure all the spider webs were gone before we brought him up!
@@USSCod that makes sense. I guess we can cancel the moment of silence.
What a fantastic topic! 📣
Was the original Cod megaphone beyond repair after it was broken?

It was tested in the 1950s aboard Cod and USS Fulton... apparently it never became a thing.
@@paulfarace9595 Thank you, sir!
Best invention created to get the lead out.☕
When is Drach arriving?
We're planning on a reception on Friday the 13th at 6 pm.

Does a deep voice work the best, when it’s foggy?
If you use it reversed, for listening, better hope nobody yells too loud.
❤

We dropped it... they're rather brittle. But we fixed it eventually. 😅
Wait. If Evan went overboard then who is running the camera? A tripod? Yet another job lost to automation.
Ben stepped in...but only after tossing Evan a concrete life ring 😮😢😅
