Correct. Westinghouse automation has grown both in the US and the world, especially in the world. As other countries need the automation to produce products, Westinghouse has to build and sell more of those products. Put tariffs on those products, that will reduce sales, and the countries will not need Westinghouse automation to produce products exported to the US.

@ Let’s see… China sells a good $100 to Walmart USA. Walmart sells it to you $120. $20 profit for Walmart. Right ?
Now China sells the same good next week when tariffs are applied. Walmart pay $100 but also pays the 25% tariffs to Trump’s government.
Walmart therefore pays the same product $125 but needs its $20 profit. So now you buy the same good for $145.
In what way this will help you reduce the cost of living ? Unless you can find the same product made in USA cheaper (good luck on that)
you will pay more and more on everything. Also, when American companies see imported goods’ prices rise, you really think they don’t follow the trend to make more money as you just can’t find anything cheaper anymore ? It’s called inflation.

Trade tariffs may seem like a tool for economic protection, but in reality, they create challenges for both Canada and the U.S. For American consumers, tariffs mean higher prices on goods, disrupted supply chains, and economic strain on industries reliant on Canadian imports. For Canada, retaliatory measures can impact key sectors like manufacturing, agriculture, and energy, leading to job losses and economic instability. Despite these challenges, Canada has always been resilient. We have weathered trade disputes before and will continue to protect our economy and sovereignty. Let’s be clear-Canada is not the 51st state. We are a strong, independent nation that values fair trade and economic cooperation. Tariffs only hurt both sides, and history has shown that collaboration, not division, is the path to long-term prosperity for both countries. A strong U.S.-Canada partnership benefits us all.

The EU must be hoping for a lot of US tariffs for as many as possible countries because many industries in the EU are in a difficult situation so they can certainly use some help from the US government. The tariffs will make the US products more expensive and those US companies that were capable to compete on the world market before the tariffs, will do a lot less after the tariffs started. Plus the fact that the US, US production, US demand can not be trusted anymore increases the risk of doing business with the US and therefore the profit margins on buying and selling must be a lot higher to compensate the great uncertainties in the TruMusk period. And trust comes on foot but leaves on horseback so for the next decade the unreliability will cost TruMusk's Absurdistan a lot of money.

I’ll think about it all in one of the 6000 McDonald’s or 2000 Starbucks… and that’s a drop in the bucket 🪣
The imbalance is truly staggering. So before starting a trade war, Trump should have done his sums correctly.

Every country depends on import and exports, even china needs imports! raising tariffs for other countries would mean that they'd have to charge more to compensate, which would make your groceries more expensive then what it is today; and since your pres is deporting a lot of immigrants that were severely underpaid, due to them being undocumented, "americans" will fill those jobs with higher rates, which means higher cost of service --> higher product cost! The US imports goods from other countries not just because they cant produce the numbers to meet demands, but also because its cost efficient

Ironically, "Dances with Wolves," is a complete fiction, the exact opposite of the actual history of what the Sioux were doing during the Civil War. The 1862 Minnesota Lakota Uprising saw scores of whites slaughtered in the most cruel, grisly fashion. Once controlled, 133 Sioux "braves" were slated to be hanged, until President Lincoln intervened and cut the list to 37, probably out of horror at such a huge hanging added to his legacy. Then, in 1964, the Nebraska "Medicine Road" massacres, with a repeat performance, by Sioux and other tribes on travelers, way stations, farmers, etc. The atrocities of the summer of that year are hardly ever mentioned as the reason for the so-called "Sand Creek Massacre," which hardly matched the activities of the "warriors" against poorly armed civilian men, women, and children.

I still don't understand putting tariffs on industrial inputs, as that just makes businesses that use those goods less competitive globally and even domestically reduces their margins, which will lead to layoffs. Sure, you're "saving" the direct jobs in steel and aluminum, but that will cost you more jobs in other industries than those that you saved. Plus, youre making American exports less competitive. If you want to tariff something, then tariff end products like consumer goods. Where is the economist on his team that is supposed to be whispering in his ear? It's an ill-conceived policy that simply seems surface level that misses all the needed nuance required.
