      Honestly, you're not missing much.😒
      It IS beautiful here, but in many cities, there is literally NOTHING for the young folks to do. Why do you think we have one of the highest Opioid and other Drug problems in the Nation, many Years running...I Myself used to be addicted to Painkillers after a car wreck, and then once the Doctors no longer wanted to help I moved on to the harder Heroin and Methadone. Thank Goodness I got clean when I did, because 'ACTUAL HEROIN' doesn't exist in the U.S. in great quantities anymore. It's all that Fentanyl shit that if you mess with it without a Helluva tolerance, You're going DOWN and You'd simply better hope the EMTs can get there and administer Narcan to you, or your Life is forfeit. I've been sober 9 years at this point from all Opiates and Opioid derivatives.
      Don't get me wrong, I love it here. If I won the lottery, I sure as Hell wouldn't move from the State either. But even as a 'somewhat Republican', I can see what pieces of garbage like Mitch McConnell have done to this State I love...or should I have said, "What He HASN'T done"...even though He's been in Congress since Man walked along side by side with the Dinosaurs, and has not done a damn thing with the small amounts of money Our State occasionally gets appropriated, but evidently always ends up elsewhere, instead of the places where it was DESIGNATED it go to help.
      I don't know what the answer is. I just thought I'd let you in at a peek of MY "Old Kentucky Home". Hell even KENTUCKY BASKETBALL sucks these days! 😭

    I have listened to other versions of this Stephen Foster classic, and none come close to the perfect interpretation of Tom Roush's. It is of course lyrics as seen from a slave's perspective, and you Tom are the ONLY one to render the original lyrics as penned by Stephen. You are an outstanding talent, and if you ever came to Scotland, I would pay any price to see you in concert. Keep up the good work.

    Am I hearing flavors of " My Darling Nelly Gray" written by Benjamin Hanby in 1856 in this song?? hmmm!!!
    Even so, Beautiful 💙
    Just researched:
    "My Old Kentucky Home, Good-Night!", typically shortened to "My Old Kentucky Home", is a sentimental ballad written by Stephen Foster, probably composed in 1852. It was published in January 1853 by Firth, Pond, & Co. of New York. Foster was likely inspired by Harriet Beecher Stowe's anti-slavery novel Uncle Tom's Cabin, as evidenced by the title of a sketch in Foster's sketchbook, "Poor Uncle Tom, Good-Night!"
    So the flavor must be coming from this song 😊

    A beautiful arrangement. I like it very much. It seems that the original version refers to African Americans as darkeys, if I understand the verse about plowing fields. Probably people do not sing the verses that remind us of slavery. But it seems that was part of the song, and in Foster's time perhaps people did not realize how it would sound now. But still a great song. Nowadays so many songs simply trash America and find nothing good there.

    • @WesternRanger250
      @WesternRanger250 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In Foster's time the Negroes were called darkeys. Everyone, even themselves called them that. It is todays politicians that took that name and made everyone think that it was "racists". Everything they don't like is racist. It is up to us to ignore their bs and keep our history. Unless we keep our history and founding, we are going to fall.

Therefore, let's go back to Old Times and (unjustly) neglected traditions. And, once again, thanks Tom for keeping alive the flame of Dixieland and its music!
