Ringling Bros. And Barnum & Bailey Circus Train With Elephant Cars, Cincinnati Ohio

- Blue Circus train of the Ringling Brothers And Barnum & Bailey Circus! First was the Lambs Ferry Tunnel near Ryland Kentucky. Next, the Pennsylvania Railroad Undercliff Yard where they set off the passenger cars. ( Largest railroad yard in Cincinnati owned by Pennsylvania Railroad at one time ). Finally we see them take the elephant cars and freight cars to the International Friendship Park near the Boathouse Restaurant. This is where the Cincinnati Dinner Train and the WEBN Fire Works train terminates. It rained off and on the whole day, sometimes pretty hard which made it difficult to video the train. Filmed March 1, 2016. PLEASE RATE AND SUBSCRIBE TO JAWTOOTH!

Early summer, 1972, the Ringling Circus train broke down on the tracks only 100 yards or so away from our house. I was 8, and it was THE GREATEST memory of my life to date! We already knew it would be passing through about 9:30 that morning. So, we were standing out there waiting for it. The train slowed down, blew their whistle & the folks onboard waved, and we were giddy.
There was a problem and engine broke down. So, the train was stuck along our set of tracks for almost 9 hours that day. We were given our own private circus show along that set of tracks. I even got to ride an elephant. It was such a magical day, and the world was so much different back then. We were much too poor to afford to ever go to the circus. So, this was almost like a religious experience, you might say. And is a memory I will forever hold near and dear to my heart.
Sadly, RBB&BC closed their tent in 2017. So, there will be generations who will never know what the circus is, and most will probably never hear of them at all.
When I came across your video, I had to share a special memory from my childhood.
I miss it also. I took my kids and grandkids the last ten or more years of the circus. I filmed the last 3 years of the trains and chased the last train all day
@@JawTooth
I'm sure your children and grandchildren will hold those memories close. I have the entire video of the RBB&BC final show. And, for a little while, I'm that little 8 year old riding a pacuderm along the train tracks again.
Have you watched the PBS special series "The Circus"? It was on netflix, but not sure now. If you have Roku or streaming services, you should be able to find it. It's about the history of the circus, from beginning to today.
What is that - whoop whoop - sound I occasionally hear from a locomotive? I just heard it in this video, when a locomotive is crossing a street at 8 minutes and 27 seconds.
It was fun to see a circus train! Excellent work, Jaw Tooth!
Anthony Starfield I've heard that many times before and have always wondered the same thing, sounds like a servo motor or something
@@stretchlimo7275 it's the air compressor kicking on
On the circus, they are not called passenger or freight cars but coaches and flats. Privileged to have lived and traveled on both the red and blue trains.
I did not know that. Thank you for the information. I would pay big bucks just for the opportunity to ride on either one of those trains. I know its hard to get those jobs. You could write a book about your life on the train. Man, you are lucky!! Thanks for your comments!
A very close friend (first knew his grandfather when I was a kid 50 years ago!) was trainmaster for several years and I was able to shadow him and the crew all night for a number of the jumps. Have lots of great photos but not video. I have a great set of images I took loading out in Cincinnati as the flats are close to and right along a well-lit street as you must know. Some pics were taken as we drove on the flats pulling wagons along, right along to the raising of the runs and placing them on the flats positioned for arrival in the next town.
Awesome, if you get the time you could make a slide show video with your pictures and a lot of ppl would really enjoy seeing them. I am jealous. Lol
circushistory Awesome! I've never worked for the circus, but I'm a fan of both trains and the circus. I know Ringling Brothers & Barnum and Bailey is the greatest show on earth hands down, second to none. I've seen it twice and watched the elephant parade numerous times. My rail experience came to
me while I was in the military where we used rail service to transport our tracks around Germany in the 1970s . I've guided equipment on flat cars where we would tie them down with turnbuckles. The job wasn't complete until every vehicle was secured. In all of Germany they always had someone killed or injured om standing up under electrified rail lines. Miss those days.
This is a truly amazing video! Had great locomotive power, and a once in a life time view of the circus train! It's a shame it doesn't run anymore.
I'm glad you include your video in the rain. You ended up with a great production. A great endorsement from a CSX emplyee. Thank you for the wave at the end. Excellent video.
+iusetano I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching and commenting!
It's a real shame no more generations will see the circus. Thanks to a small minded group of self appointed saviors. If you don't like the circus don't go
Jaw Tooth! You have a wonderfully entertaining channel! One of my current abosolute favorites! I have been an avid rail fan since I was first able to stand by myself in 1962. We lived beside the Southern mainline in Bluff City TN. I now over in Kingsport TN where we have plenty of railroads and great rail fanning views! I still visit Bluff City regularly and fish as well as railfan. Thank you from my heart for all you do!!!!
that was cool. I never got to see that. Hubby said, that they don't have an engine and they rely on the railroads to bring them in. yep, there it is right there with csx. Then they would march from Island avenue to the civic arena, which is not there any more. nice video. you my friend got some awesome footage. have a wonderful weekend.
So sad we will not see these trains again bringing the Greatest Show on Earth to towns and cities in America.
end of an era. the circus shuts down for good .. good thing you caught the train then.
Yes and I have some more footage of it with the elephant cars that I never posted. I am going to film them in March for the last time.
Great catch sir, the Ringling Bros. And Barnum & Bailey Circus Train and equipment was all very well kept.
Great video Brian, I liked your intro to it. :-)
Big thumbs up, have a great weekend....
Thomas
+SUPERGENKI JAPAN Thank you Thomas!
I miss the Circus train. Watched it in Miami unload elephants to walk them over to Miami Beach. Memories are treasures!
That is so awesome! I never got to see them walk the elephants. This train was the first time i Filmed it and it was the last year for the elephant cars. Thanks for watching! I have several other circus train videos and I have another one I never posted of the train crossing over the Ohio River
I remember when they could pull past the boathouse and park next to the arena. My Mom took me down to watch them unload when I was little.
+colemanerik Up until a few years ago they would shove the four elephant cars across the crossing at the Boathouse. I guess nothing crossing there anymore. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing!!! Have the scanner fired up as I type... last I heard CSX locos were looking to go "Southbound at Oakley". Will try to catch it leaving town tomorrow...hopefully they don't slip out overnight!!! Next show in Virginia, so I am ASSUMING they'll take the old C&O route that parallels the Ohio River in KY.
+LovelandBeltRailway I was guessing they would use the same route that you mentioned. I'm also hoping to catch them in the morning. The last show ended at seven pm so I hope they are still there in the morning. They have a lot of stuff to load but they know what theyre doing. The switching will take them a while also.
Wow this is Great thanks for a great show 60 cars!!!
Great video in the rain or shine that is one awesome train , great coverage !
+dave allen The weather slowed me down a little but didnt stop me. Thanks for watching Dave!
Jaw Tooth Your welcome !
I read that once the animals had been removed from the circus, attendance dropped. It's a shame little girls and boys can't have a Ringling Bros. Circus anymore.
Nice that you got to see the circus train! I hope to one day catch it when it goes through my area. Liked!
+Erik Alfaro Productions Thank you Erik! I'm also planning on catching it on Monday when it leaves. I noticed you have been getting a lot of new subscribers. Congratulations!!
Jaw Tooth Cool, thanks Jaw Tooth!
had no idea how large it was. I am 65 and I remember seeing them as a child.
The train is so long that I didnt post all of my videos of it because the video would have been too long. I filmed it coming into Ohio across the Ohio River on the huge CSX trestle but I have never posted that video because it was going so slow that it would have added about 11 minutes to this video. I also caught it in a few other spots. Now that the elephants are retired, the trains will be at least 4 cars shorter. Thanks for watching!
oh thank you it was very pleasing to see. brought back memories
I'm planning on posting the rest of my circus train videos next spring
I will be watching

Hi...Dear friend, Brian.
Sunny smile appears. We are always a good video, thank you all.
I'm sorry slow down your answer. This is, will be held a commemorative ceremony of the "tsunami" damage of five years ago after 4 hours today. The victim, I have to act in areas such as medical personnel, because of this equation, had been engaged in relief activities. Heal your lovely video of a patient mind, if it is freed from the fear of illness, I'm very happy. I hope all the best for your friends of all the people and your family. Please spend a good weekend tomorrow.
From Japan Yokosuka Tokyo Bay area. Your friend :-) Sawa.
+SAWA FURU I remember the day that happened. I hope things are getting back to normal and I know that you have a strong country. Best regards to you!!
I enjoy the video.Thank you for sharing with us.
Amazing how much stuff they had to transport for that show. Thanks for posting!
Glad you enjoyed it
Wow that was a nice train. I'm surprised how many cars it had been pulling. The circus is really the Big Top Show! :)
+TRAINS_4_FUN They have 2 of these trains that are long like that. This was the red train. They also have the blue train. They alternate them each year so next year Cincinnati will get the blue train.
Very cool video. Thank you for sharing your work
+dennis david Thanks for watching and commenting!

Hey those are great wheels you have. Love the idea of chasing trains in a car.
Great catch of it!
Nice shot at 27:39! I got the same shot this past March with the circus train departing.
So intresting))) Thank you)))
looks like mount orab peavine may have shut down again. i havn't heard any trains for a while now. but then i have been busy away from the house.
+mike king There hasn't been much going through Mt Orab but they have been working at Afton a few days a week and they have been moving the tank cars around at Batavia. I guess the grain company has been slow.
That looks like the red train not blue jawthooth great catch I miss these days seeing it come through queens gate yard in front of my house
saddened.
after 125 years....
These relics will probably be placed in the Ringling Bros museum in Fla. now...
Another great find!
Спасибо за прекрасное видео видео, как всегда все супер)
+Лариса Вештебей Thank you!
Some time ago. A friend of mine was working for a train breaks manufacturer. The circus came to their engineering facility and requested a modification to be engineered and installed on their elephant carrying wagons. Apparently, the beasts learned how to turn that big hand break wheel when in motion and kept on killing the breakers on their wagon.
I'm not making this up!
I miss the circus!
Awesome video!!
nice images =)
+NickaPaulo thank you!
nice-I watched all and i put a like on this too

nice video. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . good
+[가윤티비]GaYoonTv Thank you!
+[가윤티비]GaYoonTv Thank you!
They actually replaced several of the flat cars with a modified 5(?) unit articulated spine car in Cincinnati made by Progressive Rail before they left. Which makes this a bit more interesting as with the Elephant cars, a few of the flats have seen the end of their circus life!
To answer the question asked on the video, yes, those are the elephant cars beginning at 13:35.
I wonder what they did with the elephant cars since the elephants are retired. I have a magazine somewhere that explains each car and gives info about the train that most ppl don't know. There is also a facebook page just for the circus trains. Thanks for visiting my video! I have a few more with the circus train but I haven't posted them yet.
Nice video :)
+Katy TubeFun Thank you!
👍✿I like it dear friend...Interesting video:) Have a nice day....Hugs for you..Smiles👍✿

Great video Jaw Tooth..
Since it is to be the last..it should be pulled by some class.
Are they still parked in Nash county I'd like to see them love old train cars
Nice video!
+NSAndAmtrakTrains Productions Thank you!
this is awesome great job
The circus use to come to grand rapids michigan too... but not any more.. too bad.
You would think CSX would have given them a couple of better looking loco's to pull the train with.
I hope they do in March when the circus train returns to Cincinnati for the last time. I am going to film it and follow it as much as I can for a couple days. I still have some video of this train going over a huge trestle over the Ohio River that I never posted. Thanks for watching!
Do you still have this RAM truck today?? Just wondering
Johnathan lee iverson was on the blue unit and David shipman was on the red unit! Of Ringling bros. And Barnum & Bailey circus
So, what cars were the lions, elephants and giraffes in, JT???
James E straights show would Park there train's in Taft Florida in the sixties and early seventys! They would set up ride's and animals for the people to go have a fun day 💚 winter time!" 👍
awesome
yes yes,i see the cap in the begin, lol.
+MrPeerum Well, today its cloudy cold and gloomy out so I might practice on the electric guitar. Too bad I cant play it outside and wake up the neighborhood. Lol
Ahaaa,i had one also,i put the plug in,and blow up the complete stereo tower, hahaha, lol.but watch out, there is coming in the eastcoast big snowstorms,i have seen the wetter radar.24 inch / 60 cm snow ekspecting.lol.
+MrPeerum We might get some of that snow. It was supposed to get up to 50 F here today but its only 39 F. I cant wait for spring
wel the spring is coming before you now.mmmm,in the garden,BBQ,cold beer, yes yes.lol.
I always plant tomatoes and peppers. Beer goes good with the peppers and hamburgers!
Great video new sub here tx again for the invite 👍🏾😎🚂
For the circus trains were there a dedicated engineers? So how did it work did they just get to pull into town and go to a hotel room with three or four days and then wait for the next train move? Was it the same people for the last 40 years that did it? And did any of the engineers get to beat in the elephants? You know just for fun
wow that's a long train.i need to film some time again. im wanting a new computer first and have to figure my little blue camera out first.
+Preston Whitt I hear ya. I need a new computer also. Mine is crap. Sometimes mine is so slow that its like watching a slide show and sometimes the volumn wont work. What kind of camera do you use?
+Jaw Tooth I'm going to get a touch screen for $800 lol it's like a tv but it also has a key pad. I'm going to start to use an air pro ion camera. It's a little blue one. It's water prof it takes a little sd card. Takes pictures also. The videos are hd at 1080p. I have lots of videos of it if I ever figure out how to use windows movie maker ten for Facebook. Right now I use iPhone 5s.
Cool that sounds like a good one. I like that it has the sd cards. That way you can save the card if its a good video that you dont want to lose. My son has the Iphone 5s. I have the iphone 6s. It has a bigger picture for those of us who need it due to bad eyesight. Lol
yes lol. mine is starting to lag like my computer thats why my videos are jacking up. i filmed a lot today. i filmed 12 lights with a nickel plate locomotive. working on the video now
+Preston Whitt Awesome!
thumb up buddy
Which cars where the elephant cars?
I like to know why the engines were pulled off the passenger cars?
a member has a shorter model of the train at the local club in Hendersonville NC
Good thing i tuned in... your count was at 666... sigh of the beast train for sure.
Are those snow flurries flying?
Why do they have one locomotive facing one way and the other facing opposite direction?
When they return the other direction they have a locomotive facing forward
Well, Jaw Tooth, you won't be filming this train anymore. R.B.B. and B. is closing everything down in May.
I still have a few videos of them that I never posted. They will be back in Cincinnati in March for the last time and I will film them. Man that sucks. Anyway, thanks for watching!
Didn't know they would be in town one last time. It is a shame.
So Jaw Tooth...What happens to the coaches now that the circus has stopped touring.....Is it the crap heap, or will they be sold to a museum?
Why the heck do u see every circus train movement... I haven't ever seen one.
Are all those people at 22:55 wearing the high viz gear RR employees or are they Circus members?
They work for the circus. They are Minnions. lol
No, I'm quite sure they are railroad employees.
That damn Music!
All professional videos have that. It gets views which makes money
aaannndd.....it's gone now!
I saw 3 guys throwing elephant shit out the side in car # 38
What if the lions got out and ate the cameraman. I'd pay for that
Well, I wouldn't really like that since I was the cameraman.
Sad that they Retired the elephants for good!
We have gone to the circus every year in March with our grandkids and other family but I dont plan on going next year without the elephants. That was my favorite part of the circus. I cant believe Ringling let peta influence them. Next they will go after the lions and other animals. peta, who I cant capitalize their name, is just a bunch of loud mouth terrorists. Dont get me started. Lol
60trainhunter some group complained about the elephants were not being taking care of so they retired them soon after that they when out sad thing
ok i did mr csx lol
All because of the animal activities why it's shutting down people...also there's othere people also involved in closing this system down that comes into play too..
.
Where did the circus animals go.hope they were retiring in a san
