This video is more related to their name than the song. The song was written about the great flood of 1927 and is a cover from Memphis Mini and Kansas Joe McCoy. The Drums in this song have a lot of myths about how they were recorded , BUT how ever they did the reverb I love it. When formed they called themselves the New Yardbirds. I think it was Keith Moon of the Who said they would go over like a Lead Balloon so they took that up and called themselves Led Zeppelin and used the landing disaster of the Hindenburg (1932) in Lake Hurst NJ as their first Album cover.
If I remember correctly, when the Yardbirds broke up, 67-68, Jimmy owned the rights to the name "Yardbirds", and was contractually obligated to fulfill some open Yardbird dates, He put together what we know as Led Zeppelin, named them the New Yardbirds to finish the open Yardbird dates.
Although there are at least 3 three versions of every Keith Mon story, The version of the Led Balloon conversation I am most familiar was that one day (not the first or last) Keith and John Enrtwistle were disgruntled with The Who. so they got drunk and started semi-seriously discussing forming a band I think consisting of just the two of them. It was predicted they would be so unpopular they would "go down like a Lead Balloon." I am not sure how Led Zeppelin came to use it though. I can see why Page and Plant love the name so much due to the contrast inherent in the name. They often describe Led Zeppelin as centered around the conflict between darkness and light, and the songs they wrote are often both hard and soft. These are men who enjoy their contrasts.
A levee holds back river water, so to much doesn’t flood an area, this song was about the flood of 1927. The levee broke & flooded & devastated a huge area, taking lives homes & businesses. A good example more current, would be the flooding of New Orleans, from hurricane Katrina on August 29,2010. The Hindenburg was owned by a family named Zeppelin, when Jimmy Page mentioned to other musicians about creating a super band, he was told it would go down like a lead balloon. Hence the Hindenburg, so Page named his super band Led Zeppelin, & they took off like a rocket ship. They are still soaring high in the sky, even though they aren’t performing together anymore. When I was a student, I played lead guitar in a band and often cover Led Zeppelin. By the way, have you heard of the Japanese female hard rock band “Band-Maid”? As the name of the band suggests, they are a band costume as maids, but unlike their appearance, they have gained popularity all over the world with their very advanced playing skills and over 120 songs, most of which are so good. And when Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page saw them play on their European tour, he liked the drummer's performance so much that he asked to go backstage and take a picture with her. Please give it a listen. If you ever hear someone say, even in a joking way, "O the humanity!," they're referring to the crash of the Hindenberg you just saw. The radio reporter who was there reported it live over the airwaves (obviously a camera crew happened to be there to film it as well, but TV didn't exist yet) was crying as he described the scene and said "Oh, the humanity!" because he knew people had just been burned to death in the explosion. However, Zeppelin's song was about another tragedy, a huge flood in 1927.

The only similarity is the lyrics, and only some of the original lyrics were used in the Zep version, and they were also reworked a bit. So I'd say it's a Zeppelin tune, using lyrics by someone else.

When this band formed, they had not a name yet...a famous artist at that time, heard that these for musicians, had created a band, and swore it would never work. In a BBC interview, said artist was asked his opinion of the new group., he replied, " it will fly , like a Lead Zepplin..." Zepplin is a balloon or airship, lead, well that shits Heavy..It was meant to be an insult. Jimmy Page heard that, and named the band Led Zeppelin. Mic drop...before that was a thing! ❤

Clearly, a balloon made of lead wouldn't float in the air. It would drop like a stone. Hey Steph, I would recommend you try out a really early Zeppelin performance, from 1969 (their first full year together) from "Danmark Radio" called "How many more times." It's 10 minutes long and has got plenty of great moments, especially with Jimmy playing sizzling hot guitar solos!
I firmly believe that steph is a fan of the Led Zeppelin and it doesn't matter if she likes looking at the guys performs she really does follow the music of led Zeppelin that shows in every song they have sung on here she's got a great appreciation for the led Zeppelin music and she does read up on the history of why this song was made but not all people know about that at all steph is a great host who loves her music and we enjoy seeing her enjoying the music 😀 ❤❤

"Oh, the humanity!!!!" is the very famous line the news caster said, narrating the event as it went down:( .....& dont feel bad for not knowing, i dont think it was covered in school in the 80's & 90's when i went to school, so it wouldnt have been for u either....but, yeah, it was a gnarly thing.
At a place I used to work the night shift, I stepped outside at lunch time to have a cigarette. It was after dark and as I stood there, I heard a loud engine almost idling. It seemed to be coming from above, so I looked up and from over the roof of the building this gigantic blimp only 200 feet off the ground came right over me and then slowly flew away into the dark! Man, that was amazing because they move so slowly and are so huge. In the dark, lit up only by the street lights from below, it made me think of a giant shark swimming over me, gliding through the water with its pointy nose and grey underbelly lit up by the lights below. It would have been much freakier if there was no sound from the engine, which was low pitched, like a big truck engine. That was one of the craziest things that I've ever seen.
Ignore the video. It has absolutely Nothing to do with the song theme, although it (the visuals) slightly represents the Name of the band and one of their trademark logo with the Zeppelin airships of the early 1900's. What you completely missed is that the song is actually about the Great Mississippi Floods of 1927 when the levee (pronounced Le-Veh), a man made burm that holds the river water from entering populated areas which actually broke and flooded 70,000 square km along the Mississippi River
Yeah, it bugs me when a first listen involves video that has nothing to do with it, however, the live clips of Zep and how they were cut in is fantastic!
They tried to play this live once or twice but weren't happy with it. Lucky for us they had plenty of other songs for a mind blowing 3 1/2 hour concert.
There was no water used in the Hindenburg, the water came from firefighting crews from Naval Air Station Lakehurst. The blimp was filled with hydrogen, which is highly flammable.
The Hindenburg disaster made the cover of the first Led Zep album. But it was much more the end of the Zeppelin's era. This kind of flying objects was much more economical and quiet then the planes. It's a shame we don't go back to them with modern technology. It would be great for transport of material and so on.

This is why it is best to watch lyric videos of studio versions first. No mistaken lyrics or distractions, especially if an unofficial fan video is about something else and threrefore misleading. This kind of misic needs to be absorbed.
Music VIDEOS started in 1980. MTV started in 1981. Before then, there was no platform to see videos ANYWHERE. Bands before 1980, did not make videos. All the videos you see today from that era were fan made decades later for youtube. Before 1980, if you wanted to SEE your favorite band, you had to hope they would make an appearance on a variety show on tv, see them in concert, photos on the album covers, and that was IT. A few huge bands in the 60s and 70s would make a "promotional film" for one song occasionally, so tv commercials selling their next tour tickets had something to show while selling the tickets, and you never saw the whole song. ALL MUSIC FROM THE 1950s, 1960s, 1970s had NO MUSIC VIDEOS. Video tape was invented in the 70s.

This is probably a fan created video. It’s good production but probably a bit distracting for a first listen. The Hindenburg disaster was also famous because it was one of the first live broadcasts of such an event by WLS radio in Chicago, I believe.
That is hydrogen gas, it was supposed to be filled with helium, which is non-flammable. Hydrogen is highly flammable. Due to a ban on exports to Germany, who were involved in World War l, of helium, they used hydrogen. I've been to the crash site in Lakehurst, New Jersey, a few times as it's about 50 miles away from where I live.
A British airship, the R101, crashed in France. It hit the ground before bursting into flames and I think more people died than in the Hindenburg disaster.

An image of the Hindenburg was used on Led Zeppelin's debut album Led Zeppelin I (1969). That photo of the pilots was used on Led Zeppelin II cover (also 1969), with the band imposed into the image with (or as?) the airmen.
The video is the original "Zepplin" as these airships were called. A technological wonder of the 1930's. Unfortunately, they were filled with flammable hydrogen and the explosion and deadly crash of the Hindenberg are the image on the cover of Led Zepplin One. The name Led Zepplin is a parody of a "lead ballon" an idiom for a failed idea. They changed Lead to Led so the pronunciation would be correct in English and Balloon to Zepplin for who knows what reason. But that choice influenced metal bands to use Germanic sounding names in the future.
I remember seeing this song with just the Hindenburg video years ago. It was the Danish TV concert presented in America. I think Elvira was the host, lol. It looks like someone cut in some concert footage so at least there's that. The problem back in the day was there was no live footage until TSRTS came out so they thought that was better than nothing.

But the Germans mastered the technology of constructing dirigibles and the Hindenburg, for example, reached a length of 804 feet. The evolution of the dirigible reached its high point in the 1930's and the Hindenburg, and were intended to usher in an era of fast transatlantic crossings. The dirigibles, and especially the Hindenburg, were the pride of the Nazi regime. But the German airships a vulnerability, they used hydrogen gas as their lifting agent because the US had the main supply of helium and wouldn't sell it to the Nazis. Helium gas is inert and won't explode, but is heavier than hydrogen so it doesn't lift as much. Hydrogen, on the other hand, is cheap and plentiful, but extremely explosive. While tremendous precautions were taken to overcome this problem, the inevitable happened when the Hindenburg exploded when landing in Lake Hurst, New Jersey. The image of that explosion was so shocking that it essentially ended the era of dirigibles for passenger flights. Other dirigible crashes, primarily due to weather, had also resulted in airships being lost prior to the Hindenburg. With the onset of World War II, rapid aircraft development resulted in airplanes that were faster and had long range, effectively killing the era of the dirigible. Smaller blimps were still used by the Navy for anti-submarine patrols into the 1960s, but the world would never see dirigibles the size of ocean liners again. BTW, the water you saw being dumped when they landed was used as ballast and helped regulate the lift as the dirigible changed altitude. The expression that something would go over like a lead zeppelin (like a bad joke or movie) was common in the past because everyone knew about the Hindenburg and it became synonymous with something that would bomb, or be a disaster. The first Led Zeppelin album had the iconic image of the Hindenburg crash as its cover art. Sorry this got so long.
the crash of the Hindenburg was preventable - if they had mooring masts in other locations ... a rain storm provided the static electricity ... a hard turn broke an inside cable / which tore the large hydrogen cells .... the landing ropes provided a "path" which completed an electrical circuit (and the fire started)
Even though a bunch of songs were covers in the first few albums, they were very good at making them their own and adding so much. Some of them really don't resemble the originals. They truly had their own sound.

Now then, that said, the Hindenberg Disaster had nothing to do with the flood, or the song. The crash of the massive airship took place in New York in May 1937, 10 years after the flood.
The jet that was in the clips was actually Led Zeppelin ‘s jet they used for travel. I think they only had it for 4 years because it wasn’t cost efficient for them to have it The video had nothing to do in relation to the song. Keep up the great reactions and stay warm

Don't know who Hindenburg was. Don't know in which war zeppelins were used. Don't know what a levee is. That's why I watch. It's fascinating to see things from the perspective of a different type of person than myself.

The Hindenburg Zeppelin was a monster- 803 feet long(244.75 meters)! It was filled with Hydrogen Gas to keep it airborne. Not a wise decision. Many lost their lives that day.
The USA refused to supply Nazi Germany with helium gas, which is non flammable. Hence the use of hydrogen. Amazingly most of the passengers survived. The first rigid airships were named after the inventor Graf von Zeppelin, and the name stuck. Britain, France and the USA all had disasters with hydrogen filled airships and not surprisingly their use died out.

This is a terrible 'music video' for reactors: the visuals are so distracting that it's impossible to concentrate on the music: not what a music video should be all about at all. You are watching the deaths of 35 people, the majority, being burnt alive, and this is meant to help you concentrate and appreciate a piece of music? The subject of the video also has absolutely no connection to the song, which is about a levee breaking, not an air disaster: the only connection is the name of the band and the subject of the video. At a place I used to work the night shift, I stepped outside at lunch time to have a cigarette. It was after dark and as I stood there, I heard a loud engine almost idling. It seemed to be coming from above, so I looked up and from over the roof of the building this gigantic blimp only 200 feet off the ground came right over me and then slowly flew away into the dark! Man, that was amazing because they move so slowly and are so huge. In the dark, lit up only by the street lights from below, it made me think of a giant shark swimming over me, gliding through the water with its pointy nose and grey underbelly lit up by the lights below. It would have been much freakier if there was no sound from the engine, which was low pitched, like a big truck engine. That was one of the craziest things that I've ever seen.

Ignore the video. It has absolutely Nothing to do with the song theme, although it (the visuals) slightly represents the Name of the band and one of their trademark logo with the Zeppelin airships of the early 1900's.
What you completely missed is that the song is actually about the Great Mississippi Floods of 1927 when the levee (pronounced Le-Veh), a man made burm that holds the river water from entering populated areas which actually broke and flooded 70,000 square km along the Mississippi River
Yeah, it bugs me when a first listen involves video that has nothing to do with it, however, the live clips of Zep and how they were cut in is fantastic!
An epic of a track about the great Mulholland dam collapse.
They tried to play this live once or twice but weren't happy with it. Lucky for us they had plenty of other songs for a mind blowing 3 1/2 hour concert.

There was no water used in the Hindenburg, the water came from firefighting crews from Naval Air Station Lakehurst. The blimp was filled with hydrogen, which is highly flammable.
The Hindenburg disaster made the cover of the first Led Zep album. But it was much more the end of the Zeppelin's era. This kind of flying objects was much more economical and quiet then the planes. It's a shame we don't go back to them with modern technology. It would be great for transport of material and so on.

Music VIDEOS started in 1980. MTV started in 1981. Before then, there was no platform to see videos ANYWHERE. Bands before 1980, did not make videos. All the videos you see today from that era were fan made decades later for youtube. Before 1980, if you wanted to SEE your favorite band, you had to hope they would make an appearance on a variety show on tv, see them in concert, photos on the album covers, and that was IT. A few huge bands in the 60s and 70s would make a "promotional film" for one song occasionally, so tv commercials selling their next tour tickets had something to show while selling the tickets, and you never saw the whole song. ALL MUSIC FROM THE 1950s, 1960s, 1970s had NO MUSIC VIDEOS. Video tape was invented in the 70s.

This is probably a fan created video. It’s good production but probably a bit distracting for a first listen. The Hindenburg disaster was also famous because it was one of the first live broadcasts of such an event by WLS radio in Chicago, I believe.

That is hydrogen gas, it was supposed to be filled with helium, which is non-flammable. Hydrogen is highly flammable. Due to a ban on exports to Germany, who were involved in World War l, of helium, they used hydrogen. I've been to the crash site in Lakehurst, New Jersey, a few times as it's about 50 miles away from where I live.
A British airship, the R101, crashed in France. It hit the ground before bursting into flames and I think more people died than in the Hindenburg disaster.

The video is the original "Zepplin" as these airships were called. A technological wonder of the 1930's.
Unfortunately, they were filled with flammable hydrogen and the explosion and deadly crash of the Hindenberg are the image on the cover of Led Zepplin One. The name Led Zepplin is a parody of a "lead ballon" an idiom for a failed idea. They changed Lead to Led so the pronunciation would be correct in English and Balloon to Zepplin for who knows what reason. But that choice influenced metal bands to use Germanic sounding names in the future.
I remember seeing this song with just the Hindenburg video years ago. It was the Danish TV concert presented in America. I think Elvira was the host, lol. It looks like someone cut in some concert footage so at least there's that. The problem back in the day was there was no live footage until TSRTS came out so they thought that was better than nothing.
Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin invented the rigid airship that became known as a dirigible in the early 1900s. Blimps, by comparison have no internal structure, which limits their size. But the Germans mastered the technology of constructing dirigibles and the Hindenburg, for example, reached a length of 804 feet. The evolution of the dirigible reached its high point in the 1930's and the Hindenburg, and were intended to usher in an era of fast transatlantic crossings. The dirigibles, and especially the Hindenburg, were the pride of the Nazi regime. But the German airships a vulnerability, they used hydrogen gas as their lifting agent because the US had the main supply of helium and wouldn't sell it to the Nazis. Helium gas is inert and won't explode, but is heavier than hydrogen so it doesn't lift as much. Hydrogen, on the other hand, is cheap and plentiful, but extremely explosive. While tremendous precautions were taken to overcome this problem, the inevitable happened when the Hindenburg exploded when landing in Lake Hurst, New Jersey. The image of that explosion was so shocking that it essentially ended the era of dirigibles for passenger flights. Other dirigible crashes, primarily due to weather, had also resulted in airships being lost prior to the Hindenburg. With the onset of World War II, rapid aircraft development resulted in airplanes that were faster and had long range, effectively killing the era of the dirigible. Smaller blimps were still used by the Navy for anti-submarine patrols into the 1960s, but the world would never see dirigibles the size of ocean liners again. BTW, the water you saw being dumped when they landed was used as ballast and helped regulate the lift as the dirigible changed altitude.
The expression that something would go over like a lead zeppelin (like a bad joke or movie) was common in the past because everyone knew about the Hindenburg and it became synonymous with something that would bomb, or be a disaster. The first Led Zeppelin album had the iconic image of the Hindenburg crash as its cover art. Sorry this got so long.
the crash of the Hindenburg was preventable - if they had mooring masts in other locations ... a rain storm provided the static electricity ... a hard turn broke an inside cable / which tore the large hydrogen cells .... the landing ropes provided a "path" which completed an electrical circuit (and the fire started)
Even though a bunch of songs were covers in the first few albums, they were very good at making them their own and adding so much. Some of them really don't resemble the originals. They truly had their own sound.

The Great Mississippi Flood of 1927 profoundly impacted U.S. culture. It laid the foundation for the migration of Black Americans from the Southern states to northern industrial cities after WWII.
When the migration started in the 1940s and 1950s, the Southern Blacks tended to move to places in northern cities where Black communities already existed.
One of the largest of those areas existed in Chicago, and was created by those forced from their homes 15-20 years earlier by the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927.
I don't know how much interest you have in U.S. history of the past 100 years, but if you want to know more, watch the fantastic 1995 documentary, "The Promised Land," narrated by Morgan Freeman.
It's based on the equally excellent book by Nicholas Lemann, "The Promised Land: The Great Black Migration and How it Changed America."
Now then, that said, the Hindenberg Disaster had nothing to do with the flood, or the song.

So what if it does not follow the theme of the song and Memphis Minnie and the great flood of 1927...it has original kick ass video of the Hindenburg before it crashed and the actual disaster, as depicted on their first album....the video is all about Zeppelin....enjoy...just like she did! The Hindenburg Zeppelin was a monster- 803 feet long(244.75 meters)! It was filled with Hydrogen Gas to keep it airborne. Not a wise decision. Many lost their lives that day.
Especially since the coating on the outside was very very close to Thermite.
The USA refused to supply Nazi Germany with helium gas, which is non flammable. Hence the use of hydrogen. Amazingly most of the passengers survived.
The first rigid airships were named after the inventor Graf von Zeppelin, and the name stuck. Britain, France and the USA all had disasters with hydrogen filled airships and not surprisingly their use died out.
We have also an "New age Led" round town, Greta Van Fleet they called... Recommend!
Yeah, The Hindenburg was the first, or one of the first commercial airships/zeppelins with paying passengers....they were filled with hydrogen & the Hinderburg exploded & it was caught on film....you prob know all of this, or at least heard about it...its a quite world famous catastrophic event from history, kind of like The Titanic of the skies....anyway, great reaction:)

This is a terrible 'music video' for reactors: the visuals are so distracting that it's impossible to concentrate on the music: not what a music video should be all about at all. You are watching the deaths of 35 people, the majority, being burnt alive, and this is meant to help you concentrate and appreciate a piece of music? The subject of the video also has absolutely no connection to the song, which is about a levee breaking, not an air disaster: the only connection is the name of the band and the subject of the video. Brilliant, brilliant track; awful, awful accompanying video!
