The problem is that there is a serious lack of local radio stations across the country these days due to Global and Bauer buying them all out and regionalising them - I'm in Hastings so my closest options are probably Brighton or Tunbridge Wells. (E.g BBC Sussex or BBC Kent) It isn't ideal but I guess it's the only option.
Absolutely brilliant advice!! Some extra piece of advice I would give is, don't be fooled in to thinking it's an easy job where you meet the stars, earning loads of money, etc... It doesn't happen unless you're a big name working for a big station! If you want to reach the top, you've got to put A LOT of hours in(!), and A LOT of hard work(!!)... and don't get over your head thinking you're the biggest & best broadcaster in the world, 'cos no presenter is bigger than the radio station itself!!
Posted 8 years ago when there was an industry to get into. Back then the writing was on the wall as Global continued to lobby Ofcom to relax the rules around local output. Finally in 2019 Ofcom caved and with it the radio industry.
Excellent advice and i am very lucky i do community radio hosting a show each week which was my dream. i hope to be on a bigger station does not need to be radio 1. But a nice commercial station is good enough where i can be paid. the advice will help.
Ben is a very cool guy. He gave some very useful insights and they are very straight forward. All that is required is energy for the pursuit. Please feel free to share.

Great interview! Enjoyed this :)
my name is Dylan and I want to work in a radio studio
He has to have a lot of skills cause his voice is unremarkable.
Clueless!
