Ray you’re right! If people are calling you childish for NOT overreacting, then they haven’t seen what a child does when something out of plan comes along. It takes maturity to stay calm and collected like you do. No need for bitter evil or nasty!
I worked for a GM dealership for 12 years. Upper management pushes the service manager and writers to get every last cent out of a customer. Now all the blame is pushed onto the mechanic to hurry and get the job done!!! A new mechanic becomes another angry person in the shop. When I finally left as I was hired by a local school as a automotive instructor all bitterness went away. I told my students enjoy the desire and enjoyment to be able to diagnose and repair a customers vehicle. Many customers will thank you in return. Yanni
Ray, some people would gripe about winning the lottery, you can't please everyone bud. Don't let the haters get you down, great vid as always, Merry Christmas to you and yours!
Ray personally I don't care what people say or think. I love your sense of humor and your mechanical expertise! I will keep on watching your videos and I always learn something new. Thank you and keep up the good work! Merry Christmas to you,the wife and family

Great perseverance Ray. I would have said no when I first opened the door… How does something like that even get inspected? Really enjoy your channel. Also love your attitude. I’m the same way. I try and find humor in every situation. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Ray, I've been watching you for quite a while now, and I can't understand how someone would think you are acting "childish" and silly. I enjoy your videos and look for the new ones every morning and afternoon. Thanks for the channel!
Talk about a parts cannon. I have a 20 yo 2004 Corolla. I was chasing a P0171 Check Engine NOT REALIZING it was a fuel injector. I replaced the mass air flow sensor, the idler sensor on the main carbon body manifold, the O2 upstream sensor bank 1, the fuel pump strainer (through the back seat), the spark plugs THAT I FAILED TO NOTICE THE SLUGS BUILDUP ON THE FIRST PLUG and that little TAUNTING BASTARD OF A LIGHT STILL KEPT COMING BACK ON. Because I was unfamiliar with this situation and not noticing an error code with the injectors (figuring that if one or some were misfiring then it would show a code, but didn't) I wound up replacing all these other components and sensors before biting the dollar bullet and replacing all 4 injectors and ignition coil boots. AFTER the 4 injectors were replaced (and that I noticed the same oil residue in the same first cylinder as the spark plug) that little bugger went away AND STAYED AWAY. All n all, even after all the replaced parts in addition to the standard maintenance I've done in the past replacing the serpentine belt, the gasket for the main intake manifold, the front brakes and the countless oil changes I've done in my own with how to videos, I'll have to chalk this up as a learning experience and an investment for a car that's 20 yo and only at 168k miles.
You have a great attitude. One that works. Everybody watching for any length of time should get it. If they don't, that's on them. Keep up the entertaining content, including the "childish" remarks.
I am watching this on a warm Summers Christmas Eve , here in Melbourne . To all of the Rainman's Audience, crew and Family ( and himself of course) have a Merry Christmas, and a Happy Holiday And , Ray, keep your sense of humour
I loved the guy in the comments section of the video before this having an absolute meltdown because you put a gas cap on the trunk of the car. He was acting like you destroyed his own car and stole Christmas from his family. lmao
You know Ray, for someone who says he's getting really irritated, it doesn't fully come through to your audience thankfully. At least you're healing from the dealership toxins. The vid was great, thanks! 🙂
Ray, I empathize with you. I didn't work on cars but I did work on forklifts and I had angry days as well. Most of the time it wasn't with the equipment it was with the operators but there were days that no matter what I tried he parts get wouldn't fit. The best way of resolving that issue was to go out to my vehicle at break and crank up the music till I couldn't hear 😂😂😂
Ray I remember the days when I worked at a Body Shop when I had to remove the Steering Wheel and after my first couple ones I done I got Pretty Quick pulling and replacing them but I always killed the Power from the Battery because I have a Friend do it just like you did and it blew up and he had to Replace it with his own Money. Just Keep The Great Video's Coming And Always Be Safe Out There.
I enjoy your style/sense of humor. If thats being "childish" then keep it up! One other thing, Ray seems to do a lot when we are not looking. We need to pay attention more. 😆
we had a similiar issue with the p0300 and changed all plugs and coil packs and it kept telling us that we had misfire on 1 and 3 so we took the coil and plug from 5 and 7 swapped them and still had misfire on 1 and 3 long story short it turned out to be the main computer was shot changed that out and works fine again
Hey there Ray I admire you very much opening up the car door to find the steering wheel held together by black tape and half the dashboard wiring pulled out most people would run for the hills so I must congratulate you on taking on such a complex task you are the best five stars 10/10
It would be wise to disconnect the battery before working on airbag also if try pulling the wheel by hand, you should put the nut on by a few threads so that it won't hit you in the face. Stay safe and have a great Christmas
Merry Christmas Ray, ignore the haters. If you have haters, then you are doing something right as the saying goes. You, the Wife unit and the kiddos have a great one :)
I can understand how a work environment can turn one bitter Ray, I worked with a technician who had a great response to the head of our HR dept years ago when during a meeting she said "he had a bad attitude" which he responded immediately " It wasn't like that before I started working here".
I had a service manager accuse me of a bad attitude during a shop meeting one day, and I informed him that I came in with a fresh attitude every day then he would walk in the shop cursing, stomping, kicking boxes across the shop and such, and fuk up my good attitude. He actually thanked me after the meeting broke up for pointing out how his attitude effected the entire shop. I was managing a shop when he was still changing tires. XD
Good stuff Ray , very informative. Not sure why you tackled this job , except to say look at that. Don’t be grumpy, you have a great family and friends. Alot of people like watching your endeavors. Happy Christmas 🎅 everyone
The power and grounds looks to be only for the heaters. The other two lines are the O2 detections. Those are not referenced to the heater (or to ground) at all. And I believe the heaters are only there to get the sensing element up to temp a bit quicker than if it relied just on the exhaust heat to get it hot. If you were to connect the DMM in mV mode across the sensor wires, you should see some voltage across them, when the engine is leaned out. If the sensor is working.
Soul crushing. Good way to put it. I'd always be on the edge of being sent to HR but I was good at my job and the customers were always calling the office telling them what a good job I did. And, everyone else always appreciated when I would say out loud what they were thinking. That Suburban has had a pretty rough life; or at least it is showing its age. I hope the owner has a solution to the incorrect steering wheel issue so you can finish that part; also the ECM trouble. On the diagram for the O2 sensor, the squiggly line is the heater, and the part with the arrow is the actual sensor element... On any diagram, something with an arrow, means it is a variable component.
That looks like every vehicle a cousin of mine has owned for the last 20 yrs. Always buys something cheap and torn up yet still runs and drives. Haha😅😊😂
If I wanted a straight forward how to video I can go to plenty of channels. Your channel makes it interesting with your chat and attitude. I watch auto shenanigans channel for exactly the same reason, although his new series on his grandfather's BMW I found myself laughing and saying to my other half, "This definitely isn't Ray."
Dude, you had me squinting and fidgeting. I've worked EMS for 4 decades. Had flashback to the 90's when a mechanic at the Ford dealership had an airbag flipped backward while working on it and it deployed. He got a LOT of dental work done, and he was lucky.
Lol I was thinking the same thing, cringing a little as I've always been instructed to disconnect the battery then wait 10mins or so before pulling an airbag. But then I remember that were watching Rainman Ray 😂
Expectations. You can't bring a car like that in to a shop and think much is going to get done. Credit to Ray for even trying I would not have touched it. Who knows what has been done to it already.
These diagnostic videos are very interesting. It shows how detailed knowledge of a proper scanner and how relating that to a good circuit diagram and then the knowledge necessary to deduce the root cause is necessary to take out the guess work in diagnosis. It’s also real world in that you’re crawling under. What I don’t understand is looking at the vehicle (no offence to the owner) and it’s mileage I’d say the cost of an ecu together with some of the other faults would render the car uneconomical to repair and so would’ve thought you’d check with the owner before continuing with the steering wheel. You could’ve had a nice cup of tea and a lie down in a darkened room instead. 😊
