Neighbor had the same issue with his kia Sephia, of course couldn't get a new canister, so we cut some small holes in it, emptied it, went to the pet store bought a bunch of charcoal filter media for salt water tanks, filled it up JB welded the holes put it back on. The car last we talked he said has 450k miles+ on it and has no issues during fill ups 10 years later.
To watch a great mechanic do a diagnostic on any vehicle is awesome for people who wonder what it takes to figure it out. It should open their eyes a little. The parts cannon is a substantial amount of money that dealerships love to do! Narrowing it down saves cost! Merry Christmas to the Rainman Rays repair family!
Merry Christmas from the Tosis. Thanks for all you did for us in 2024, Ray, Lauren, and Eric. (And to all the RRR subs who left comments and well wishes for us on various videos - thank you all!)
I'm going to have to disagree with you, I recently purchased a new Toyota Camry SE and the car is extremely well designed and manufactured. It's an absolute dream to drive and these suspension and steering parts are made extremely well. That's what's great about Toyota, they do not up and change their designs for no reason. They continue to make things better. I personally believe a lot of its has to do with the standards and practice laws in Japan.
They just need to keep chaging the timing belt. Those old 1st gen long beds are kinda rare i think also never go north the second that frame sees rusting factors....
@ I know. I use to work for Toyota and we had a campaign to spray the frames on them. It’s free, so once you get that done, it’s good. If the frame was too far gone, we replaced it, also free.
@@donniev8181 New cars are full of electronic crap. And Toyota is definitely not the exception. Also several newer models of Toyota's have serious issue's. Not all of them, but some series had (have?,( serious little issue's. like blowing up engines (bearings too weak).
I am SO HAPPY to hear that You stood Your Ground on the small claims court ! I can't believe someone would claim this sort of HOOEY over an engine cover ! To coin one of my favorite Rainman Ray sayings, " SERIOUSLY" ?
One of the most ridiculous reasons for a lawsuit I’ve heard yet. That crap gets removed from my cars half the time and if I lost one I wouldn’t think much of it. Heck, I’ve got a practically NOS cover for a ford 4.6 if anyone really wants one 😂
Rainmans repairs... We prove our diagnosis.. show n tell em time! I enjoy these deep dives.. yep gotta swap parts.. but here is the why of it! Great job Ray!
@mattabbey9190 yeah, it was like brand new under there. Maybe we people of the north should press the authorities to devise a better way of keeping our roads clean in the winter, like heated concrete lol. As advanced as our country is, there has to be a better way that does not destroy millions of cars.
Thank you ray you have kept me from losing the will to live my life is chaos and I see everything going down the drain nomatter how hard i try it's good to see someone winning in what they do and being straight about it, keep doing what you do bud 👍👍👍
From my family to yours, I wish you a very Merry Christmas filled with warmth, joy, and time spent with loved ones. May the New Year bring you happiness, success,
Im creating a crab stuffed manicotti dish with a nice salmon/bacon sauce for Christmas Eve dinner. I left a drawer open and accidentally backed into it. Got my Christmas goose early. Merry Christmas to The Rain clan and all the people watching and stuff.
Merry Christmas Ray and Lauren and everybody reading this. Watching this Christmas evening after getting home. Great video, thanks for sharing it with us. The classic over filling the tank and getting liquid gasoline into the charcoal tank.
I'm totally convinced that all the brand new Ford trucks rolling off the Oakville Ontario assembly line come pre-rusted. Owned a '01 F350 with the 7.3l powerstroke, and the only thing holding it together was the paint and wire looms. Passed emissions every time with flying colours, but left tiny piles of red and brown on the ground when ya slammed the doors.
Ray - Just an FYI but old office chairs work great for working underneath vehicles when up on the lift as the back rest gives good support for the back. The only problem is that if you lean back for very long and close your eyes you can fall to sleep easily, maybe that is just me! LOL Wishing you and the wife unit and kids a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and to all here !
When I replaced my tacoma fuel tank with a long range tank, I learned the hard way to lubricate the hoses and electrical plugs with pure silicone dielectric grease. It's messy, but it works and does nothing to the plastics in the plugs, nor to rubber hoses. It makes reassembly a breeze. It works flawlessly now. Good luck on your fuel projects.
Merry Christmas to You and Yours Ray. I appreciate the content while I was recovering from 2 knees and an open ankle fracture. May the Almighty give you peace and Blessings.
Dang, your shop is looking GOOD! I follow you and know that you painted the floor, but it really does make a difference when you drive in and see how good it looks. Cheers!
Merry Christmas. This is for all those people who think that today’s mechanics are just parts replacers. Very interesting tutorial on system diagnostics.
Pressurize the flex line to 20-30 psi and then heat it. The pressure will push out the now pliable tube. Once it cools, line the inside with a spring to prevent collapse again.
People who overfill their tank by trying to get the the nearest whole number are going to eventually have this issue because it gets in the evaporator system and causes this to happen.
No charcoal canister on my 1996 Dodge Turbo Diesel so I always fill it to the brim so I can keep accurate fuel economy measurements. The only time I don't is when the fuel is too foamy.
@ overfilling can destroy your purge valve also not just the charcoal canister. I know of someone having to replace their purge valve for the very reason of overfilling. It’s not worth the extra dollar or two if you have to replace a hundred dollar part.
I've own 3 different vehicles in my 17 years of driving. This has NEVER been an issue for me, and I always "round up" after the stop click. Probably because (surprise surprise) the manufacturers know people will do this and take it into consideration in their designs. Or maybe it's just because all of my vehicles have been SUVs, so all of the EVAP components are above the height of the tank, so overfilling will never get into anything anyways.... no idea.
@ I thought it was ok to do so until the vehicle I would round up on was a pickup truck and eventually had to have the evap solenoid by the charcoal canister replace. I now do not round to the nearest it was an expensive fix.
I'm glad that you finally admitted to drinking schmoo. It's so much simpler to just admit it and then when crap falls into the cup, it was already schmoo and no damage was done.
Merry Christmas to your whole family Ray Ray. Such a pleasure to meet you last year (boat trailer tire rotation lol) you are exactly who you appear to be no fakeness brother. Have a blessed day.
Holy Moses! You destruct that car in seconds 😛 (and I'm not even near to join!) And I know for sure that it'll run like it's supposed to before you'll let go of it. Thank Heaven for good skills and know-how.
When you turned on the vacuum I cracked by your surprise reaction. I live in the Big Bend of the forgotten coast here in Florida and I really enjoy your videos and wish I was closer to you to be my mechanic. Merry Christmas to you and your family and worker’s.
Merry Christmas! I remember that if I saw an evap code it was either a loose/bad gas cap or evap canister assy. I liked the fact that Toyota consolidated everything into one.
Merry Christmas @Rainman and crew! To the filler location indicator, folks around me have a hard time recognizing the high beam signal let alone the filler location !😂
your discussion about the engine cover reminded me of the time that a tire dealership didn't get a front wheel hub cover back on all the way and it came off 200 feet from dealership and I didn't know until i got home, went back and they got me a new cover from Ford, something like 150.00 for a hunk of plastic with chrome on it, seen the cover laying in the street on way back home, too bad that in got ran over and smashed
I've been watching you forever, I really enjoy you going through your testing methods to prove out the fix. Makes me want to go be a tech again but I never seem to luck out and find an honest shop to work for.
Merry Christmas to you, Lauren, the fam, and the crew at the shop! 🎄🎄🎄Appreciate another year of fantastic comment, quips, learning, having to buy tools for my garage when I see clever things on your videos, etc. Best wishes from our fam!
