@D It just highlights the different styles of Vince and HHH. If you've listened to Chris talk about this story in more details on his podcast, he explained that HHH thought it would be too silly and hokey and wanted to ground the segment. HHH is more about "real" where as Vince can favor the "gimmicky". That's definitely clear when you compare NXT to Raw/Smackdown. At least he admitted he was wrong in the end.

@@s.hi.1076 Just because a match is short doesn't make it terrible. Hell, if it's something hardly anyone wants to see, then being shorter actually makes it better. That Warrior - HHH match was definitely terrible, though, as was the Hart Foundation match.

Thing is, I think Jericho only put up with it for so long because it's what Undertaker told him to do. I remember he told of story of him ranting to Taker about vince and he's just like "He's the boss, just do it. Your time will come." But it never did in his eyes.

You could tell Owens took it to heart cause if you watch any of those WWE "24" specials that they run where they show behind the scenes of Mania, the one for that year almost all the shots they show of people in Gorilla you can see Owens there. It's like he didn't want to leave Vince's side the whole rest of the night.
Absolutely, and you can tell Jericho feels for Owens because he sees how passionate he is, as he said he went through it and 99 and wants the best for Kevin! I think Jericho is genuinely in the 'greatest of all time' conversation for sure!

While true that Owen's and Jericho didnt need the title either, it would have been nice to see them put faith in one of their newer guys rather than shoehorn a Goldberg vs Owen's match right before Mania only to have Brock win it at Mania
@VictoryRoad04 I guess that makes sense and I say this in hindsight as I wouldn't have been opposed to Brock winning the title back in 2017, but the Universal title couldve been established just the same by being put on young stars and letting them run with the belt rather than have Brock hold the title for over a year
TheKizly That was the original plan I remember Jericho actually said that somewhere that he was going to beat KO for the title at Wrestlemania and then later drop the title to Brock but then Goldberg ended up doing the run he obviously did after Survivor Series 2016 which was originally a one off against Brock

The quote at the end really shows why Jericho is one of the best and continues to endure. "I'd rather have a great story and an OK match than an OK story and a great match". Matches are entertaining, stories trigger emotion

I met chris once. I was at an event where you had to pay for a ticket to meet certain celebrities I walked by chris as he was sitting down getting ready to sign autographs I said hi to him and waved and he said hi back. He seems like a very nice guy.

Patterson is gay (which is fine about 60% of the guys are) but Patterson is also a rapist..he loved to try and injure people involved with production or the road crew in different cities so he could rub their feet then suck them off..whats fucked is he did that to a mentally slow ring boy (helps set up the ring) then raped him...Vince gave the guy a lifetime contract paying six figures to just set up rings before ppv and promised he would never be in the same city as Patterson...there are a ton more..Vince fucking some of the boys wives/gf or else he would terminate their contract, Vince knowing Dynamite Kid would get some of the new wrestlers blackout drunk, take a Polaroid with his dick in their mouth then extort and blackmail them for their money, giving a percentage back to Vince...the stories go on and on..

Ironic that Vince liked all of Jericho's past Wrestlemania matches while Chris hated them, and now Chris had a match he liked while Vince hated it.
The match was alright. Although it was kinda disappointing because it wasn't long enough, fell flat because the buildup was amazing. But the match itself shouldve been a little longer.
It genuinely shouldve been the main event that year for the Universal Title, maybe with Jerichos WWE career on the line. The minute they demoted it to the US Title Match, they ruined it. That version of Y2J and his chemistry with Owens was by far the best angle of recent years.

Agreed with the disappointing bit...it wasn't bad, but this might have been the best feud buildup since Jericho/Michaels a decade earlier, so it was a pretty big let down.
Roshe Romil Roshe Romil I don’t think it should have closed the show but it should have been for the universal title. Goldberg didn’t need the title for his match with Brock. The whole US title thing killed it a bit for me and kind of hurt Owens in the end. It made him seem very much a hold over champ and Vince has been doing that by feeding every wrestler to 3 guys on the roster in Reigns, Strowman and Lesnar. This past year has been a much better year for WWE but it’s because SmackDown has been far more interesting. I think if they didn’t want to do Jericho vs Owens for the universal title then after Jericho cost Owens the Universal championship Owens should have cost Jericho the US title. Then their match could have just been about the rivalry and they could’ve added stipulation. Why would KO care about the US title if he just lost the universal. He should only want to get the universal title back
The problem with this match is it never felt like two guys who hated each other. They had months of build to the betrayal and then it was wrestled like it was just a match.
What made this match bad was the fact it wasn't for the Universal Championship.
That last run Jericho had he should've at least won the Universal Title. Owens could've got it back at backlash or MITB. ...Jericho was legitimately and literally the mvp of wwe from mid 2016 -17. Jericho and Owens saved Monday night raw that year
That last run with wwe through his feud with Kenny moved him up past Austin on my all time favorites list ...
I hella love Goldberg.But they made a big mistake by making Goldberg vs Lesnar for the universal championship.Brock wanted the title and hijacked RAW for the 2 freaking years.No wonder Raw sucks.

To me it sounded like Vince only said that to KO because he wanted KO to be a certain way, as Jericho puts it "He (Vince) wanted Kevin to be THIS type of heel". So because KO was doing his own thing off the ropes and popping flashy moves, Vince said he hated it. That's what I think anyway.

I think Vince has finally gone mental. Been a wrestling fan since 1982 and this Mania card is the most unstable one I’ve ever seen. Usually the card is locked in 4-5 weeks before the show but has so many question marks a week out.

WWE seems to have forgotten that it doesn't matter how many flips or table spots you do if no one cares about the match in the first place. I feel like every feud these days are the same cookie cutter rivalries. What is so different from the Rollins vs Lesnar feud and Reigns vs Lesnar feud last year?
It's times like these where I actually like the fact that Triple H is somewhat in charge of the main brand. At least with him there's a chance of some other ideas getting through and becoming a reality.
On the other hand, with Vince it's either his way or no way at all.

That last sentence sums up how I feel about pro wrestling, and why so many of my indie-loving friends get mad when I don't care about people jumping here there and everywhere (and that's not a dig at ALL indie stuff, because WWE does a lot of the same crap - it's a dig at wrestling without a good story)
I get that. I love a good no reason match sometimes. Just some dudes who are really good wrestlers giving it there all. There’s nothing wrong with that. But there’s definitely something special when company stories bleed into indies. The Elite have done such a wonderful job with keeping their storylines progressing through indie shows. It definitely maximized their star power because you never knew what they were gonna do at any given show. Steen vs Generico did the same thing. Also semi recently was the best friends breaking up, then lead into Chuckie T fighting for the belt and Trent? supporting him
I don't even think it was the worst match at Wrestlemania 33. I think it was better than Cena/Bella vs Miz/Maryse, both women's championship matches, and Orton vs Wyatt.
The match with Punk was good. Like to have Rock and Cena and The End Of A Era match at that show and your match was second only to Taker and HHH. Nothing to sneeze at.
Hearing Chris himself say he didn’t like the Edge match is crazy. That was a great matchup, and it lived in my memory for years.
His match with Kurt and Chris was fucking sweet, idk why he wouldn't be happy with it.

AJ Styles vs. Shane McMahon, the first match on WM 33, was the best one from the whole show in my opinion.

I got back into wrestling with Wrestlemania 33, so the first wrestling match I've seen in 6 years was Aj Styles VS Shane MacMahon, and oh god I was so bored, and I really felt like the crowded was really off as well. Even looking back at the match one year later it still feels boring to me ^^
