You can find the same dog sitting in front of saloon, when Anurag Kashyap enters. The dog was shown at the beginning of the film, just before Vijay Sethupathy losses his family in the mishap. This dog scene connects two incidents, giving hints, both appear in same timeline. Director's brilliance!!

intially when VJS in police station. he spills tea on a police man and wipe it. he stands just behind a police man while he is changing dress and that guy slaps VJS. when a man comes to complain about his friend is missing (killed by VJS) . VJS calms down him by rubbing on his back. like that there are many scenes in police station. all this time he was searching for the man with the small hump.
and i think that thief's name is kept as police to confuse us whether he is the rapist

i see some serious gaps in the screen play. 1) flash back - back and forth not clearly understood, 2) what happened to the big guy with injured neck after police station episode? what was happening there? why was Maharaja worried about it? 3) With police knowing what had happened, the next steps are totally impractical - especially around the last remaining - third culprit.

A good review, especially because you brought out the point about police violence. I'm glad at least one reviewer is pointing this out. However, couple of reasons to support this: (a) Police are always under stress, and it is a reflection of how they treat the common man, especially the less privileged; (b) Tamil films have the tradition of comedy tracks popularized by actors like Goundamani/Senthil duo and Vadivel, where Police beating someone is often seen as funny - not in a twisted way, but just like what you see in Charlie Chaplin films where a boxer's punch lands on a referee or bystander.
I also felt Mamta Mohandass character was unnecessary - they could have cast a normal (looking) member for this role. Same goes for the killing in climax - but all of these are minor items that one can overlook. The list can be endless - for example, which excursion bus comes to your street to pick up kids? So yea, the film is not meant to be realistic.

      Maharaja (2024) - 8.7/10
      Andhadhun (2018) - 8.2/10

iratta was boring as hell until the climax reached. Maharaja is leagues a head. so many high points twist and turns. Apart from the shock Iratta is not even half as good as Maharaja

The reason Oldboy worked for me and this didn't was how operatic oldboy was. It wasn't set in any real world and it never could be. The movie creates a distance between the women's fates and the audience. Although it could be argued that oldboy is more problematic than Maharaja, Maharaja tries to manipulate the audience by trying to make everything that happens realistic, when none of it is.
