Great video, because Shannon shows the mistakes she made and how she figured out how to handle them. That is the real DIY world and far more helpful for a weekend warrior than a video where everything works exactly as expected first time. Thank you.
@@stephenbeausang5030 thank you so much!!! I really appreciate it
Honest video, no one shows the troubles that actually happen and get solved on the fly. Good job
Thank you so much! That means a lot. Thank you
Thank you Shannon, this is how it is in real life, all those DIY videos that show everything so neat, clean and easy need to show everything, not just the good bits.
Thank you 😊 so happy to help
Your drill bit melted because it hit rebar it's just something that happens need to move hole over a little to left or right. Great job !!😊
I love this tutorial! And tell your husband if he’s got time to lean he’s got time to clean 😂.
Hahahhaha we broke up so no need haha. Thank you so much. I really appreciate it
Every project requires 40 trips to the hardware store, just learn to accept it. Although, as your misc. stockpile of extra parts grows from projects, you'll need less trips.
Hahahhaha so true. I need to start doing that
Thanks for this - we are fitting an IKEA kitchen this weekend and I wondered how the island was fixed to the floor
Glad it was helpful 😊😊 thank you for watching
Very helpful! Great to show the mistakes that can be made along the way and quick solutions that cause less trips to the depot!
Haha yeah I would have saved a lot of time if I bought 3 from the beginning. Glad I could help 😊
I used this video to setup my island. My countertop was installed 4 months ago and the island is still holding up well! Thank you!!!
Yay! That makes me so happy! Thank you for sharing
Great video Shannon, I will be doing this on the weekend, a finished kitchen is in site!
Thank you.
Thank you so much! Woo! How exciting! Congratulations. Good for you
This is a pretty solid little workbench. While once you figure out how it comes together, it is physically Easy to assemble th-cam.com/users/postUgkxyFZUPFEey-PuqsPMxqaykBhgA1LWxFHh by yourself. But the diagrams explaining the steps are really pretty bad. I could not get the handle pins in all the way despite multiple attempts, so I just used a screw I had on hand for the 2nd handle. I could not get the first pin in further or pull it back out. You are supposed to hammer it in, but I had no leverage and the handle is plastic and I did not want to risk breaking it. I will get a lot of use out of the bench because of the convenient size and height. It does fold up nicely for storage. They even explain how to fold it so you don't get pinched...that is important!
Great video and learning experience.
Thank you
You're so handy and smart! Thanks for posting!
Aw thank you so much!!! 😊❤️😍
Super helpful. We are in and 80 year old home and the floors are very uneven from settling. Leveling each cabinet individually is a nightmare, so I love the approach of screwing them all together first. Good trouble shooting.
Oh my gosh yeah it’s so difficult. So glad I could be of help. 😄
Thanks for sharing Shannon, it puts lots of mysteries in my brain out! Very helpfu video :)
Glad to be of help! 😁 thank you so much for watching
I'm not doing an island but rather a peninsula - same concept applies. The guy laying on the floor instead of helping while you're doing the work. Really? Anyway brava to your success. Very helpful.
Glad I could help. 😊👍
Go deeper with the hammer drill. If it feels too loose you can always use epoxy or stuff wood chip in the hole.
So smart!!! Good to know. Thank you so much for commenting
Use a standard screw gun with torque setting instead… never use an impact for tapcons
Good to know thank you!!
This is just what I needed. Thank you.
So happy I could help 😊 good luck
For those concrete screws, I have found it best to stop at about half-inch shy of the required depth. I then finish out the hole with a more narrow masonry bit.
Ahh that is super smart. Thank you! I’m gonna try that.
@@ShannonElizabethDesign I snapped off 3 or 4 of those, before I figured that out.
@@chickensmack hahah makes sense
Find the highest point on the floor before installing any cabinets. use the highest point as the start. low cabinets leveling up is easier than leveling down
Thanks great job. I decided just to place island directly on to new 2x4 platform without the plastic legs. Those legs are garbage.
Hahah I know what you mean. That is smart
Husband looks helpful…
Haha yeah I’m the carpenter. He hates any type of manual labor haha
In the UK, the brackets are called Metod.
Good helpful video, thanks.
Thanks for the info!
Great job. Thankfully I have a wood floor, so I'll be doing this soon with the easy wood screws in the floor!
Thank you! Yeah so much better than doing it into concrete
Thank you very much for sharing this...helped a lot
❤️😊 makes me so happy!!! Thank you for watching
Put oil or water on drill so it cools down in between drilling.
Ahhh that makes sense. Great idea. Thank you so much!!
Have a cup of water to dip the hot drill into while you are drilling
That is really smart! Thank you! Next time I’m gonna do that
Thanks Shannon!
Glad I could help. Thanks for watching ☺️
impressive!
Thank you 🙏
Clean the holes. Driving the screws slower, not full power.
Good to know. Thank you
Thanks for this video! Currently installing my Ikea island and instructions aren’t clear, and even wrong with the 2 screws for the timber piece. The height is just too low if you have both screws in, might as well just put one in only at the start.
So happy this is helpful. 😊😊 yeah the instructions aren’t very clear. Thanks for watching and hope you have a great day
I always, ALWAYS keep a glass or bucket of water next to me to dip the masonry bit in. Keeps it cool and get the junk off.
That's good to know! Thank you for sharing! Thanks for the advice.
Really helpful. Thank you for sharing your experience.
Glad I could help 😊
That is the wrong tapcon to use for a metal bracket. The counter sunk tapered head is use for wood into concrete. For a metal bracket you should use a flat head tapcon.
use concrete anchor bolt.
Need to vacuum out the hole after drilling in the concrete before driving the tapcon
👏👏👏👏👏👏 thanks. Your vid help a lot, 😊
Thanks
Glad I could help. Thanks for watching
I usually plan on 2-3 holes per concrete bit, and if you can use the water trick to get a little more you are great, but concrete eats through bits quickly.
Good to know
Great video. 👍
Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you so much
You probably don't have to have them all screwed into concrete, since the cabinet are all screwed together anyway
Hi, nice video. Your screw head broke because you didnt clear all the dust out of the hole after drilling. Adds too much resistance to the screw going into hole.
That's good to know. Thank you
Where was hubby? Go girl, my wife is the same - so practical and able, like me.
That’s awesome. He doesn’t like this stuff. Just I do
Very helpful
👍😊
I know it's been a whole year or so since you dropped this video but the only thing i do differently is anytime I'm drilling concrete, metal or tile I always have a bit of water running or sitting on the surface just to help cool down the bit. But amazing job and thanks for the tutorial.
Good to know. That you so much
You need one more size up on your drill bit..
Are you drilling the screw straight into the concrete? You'll need to do one of two things: 1) drill a hole for a plastic plug, hammer in the plug, then drill the screw into the plastic plug in the ground. Or 2) you can drill into the concrete, then install a dynabolt into the hole, when you mount the bracket on the bolt, as you tighten the nut, the dynabolt expands in the hole, creating a firm hold.
These are Tapcon concrete screws. Drill and fill - but they kind of suck and snap if you don't go slow, or drill deep enough, or look at it too long. Alternatives include anchor bolts (dynabolt), concrete drive pins, and power actuated nail guns.
I like the "if you look at it too long" comment. @@edwintervt
Nice video
Thank you so much :)
Hey Shannon, what did you put to the back of the island?
I put three ikea cover panels
you're supposed to share the legs between the units...you didn't do that part properly. Unless you aren't supposed to do that for the island. But I doubt that's the case.
You can do that, but it doesn’t make that much of a difference and in my experience, it just makes it harder and not more support. Plus the wood holds more weight and is between the cabinets holing them level. Wood is a lot stronger than plastic.
@@ShannonElizabethDesign it makes it much easier to level the cabinets...and putting the leg right under the edge of both cabinets is ideal for holding the load.
@@lgmnowkondo938 I get you
@@ShannonElizabethDesign each leg is rated for 250 lbs...so leg strength is not an issue. If you share the legs, it's a lot easier to level the cabinets.
Where are your safety glasses?
For what exactly? Drilling in concrete?
Good point haha
Woodglut is a good solution for every woodworker.
So true hah
Use better drills. Bosch multi
ah good to know. thank you!
Dewalt is perfectly fine. I've been doing renovations for 30 years with Dewalt.
