  • on this episode sammy and i have a go for some early season snapper. we use a snell rig with 40 pound leader with a Pilchard and very small sinker. remember the idea with this style of fishihng is not to get to the bottom! no big models in this episode but some useful tips for the up coming snapper season

nice video Tim. I was out at the 18's also and there was a lot of small snaps and just 2 keepers 40+. See you out there.

Nice work mate I enjoy the videos. I was out today also and got lucky enough on 3 snaps 45 and under.
I’m just curious as I was using the same technique today, do you spot lock when doing this or were you just drifting?
Also will you just keep your bail arm open until you get a hit or will you lock it off at some point?
    Cheers mate 👍🏻

Nice work! On the 18’s? I leave the bail arm open while I’m letting the pillie drift down as I want it to look as natural as possible. You’ll see I let the line run through my fingers so I can feel when a fish has picked it up, then I lock the bail arm over. I use spot lock with the electric once I work out the current speed

@@thenextfish yeah mate I was just on the 18s yesterday.
Yeah ok cool do you run a swivel on your rig as well?

@@natekiem5787 I don’t use a swivel I just use a joining knot to the braid (as natural as possible)

Want to say first that i am a great fan of your videos, but seeing you put those baby snappers in the brag mat made me sad.. See a lot of that happening and only wish people would be more caring for the future of species and only take what is clearly a good fish for the plate. But thats me..

How is taking a legal snapper a sad thing? Maybe you taking the bigger breeding snappers is more of a sad thing in my opinion! 🤷‍♂️

Gday Bruno, I appreciate the comment I enjoy making the clips and glad you enjoy watching. It’s good to give people a reference point as to the size of the fish being caught on the day. I’ve never kept a undersize fish and I usually don’t have to use the brag mate but it’s early season 😂 I only kept the one snapper that day and a Mack hopefully we see some big units in close over the next few weeks

@@petermaze6688 if you take a small fish you're not giving a chance for that fish to grow and breed, imo its good to take 40 to 55, and let the babies at least get a bit bigger. If you're patient instead of a skull drag and half a meal, you get a decent fight and 3 meals next year.

Turns out Bruno has changed the legal size limit for snapper. What’s the new bag limit mate?
Any other changes we should all be aware of?

Do you ever free line live baits

    • @thenextfish
      @thenextfish  ปีที่แล้ว

Gday mate, no I haven’t free lined live bait for Jew fish as they typically sit hard on the bottom unless there’s slack tide then they move around a bit more in the water column.
I do float line live baits for other fish tho, depending on the season
