I work for Gibson. And that ain’t one. Bridge posts are wrong, not a Gibson pickup, mini pots, fretends overlap the binding, truss rod cover upside down, I could go on. Definitely a Chibson. BTW, the strings over the tailpiece is called a top wrap. Some players prefer it, saying it makes for a softer feel when bending. Stringjoy (guitar string manufacturer) just did a a video on this. Joe Bonamassa prefers this. I don’t top wrap, just person preference. Nice job on the setup.

Hi Shaun You mentioned in another video that you made a fret leveling tool from a flat file and a flat piece of wood ,but you did not mention what the file was, was it a fine tooth file, medium, or coarse, I would like to know so I can make one. Thanks for your no nonse approach to guitar building, reviewing, and repair. Great job.

Yeah that’s a knockoff for sure. I knew it immediately when you showed the serial. It’s always stamped or laser etched, not silk screened. Does that Chibson have a truss rod? Cause @ThreeChordDave (look him up) once got a Chibson that had no truss rod. Totally unplayable and unfixable the way it came. It became wall art, and he learned a valuable lesson, lol. It’s funny that some Chibson come with truss rods and others like this one don’t have one! 🤷🏼‍♀️😂

I like the concept of a Les Paul with only one pickup in the bridge and no toggle switch and just two pots like that, you are right about that back looks great, it looks to be mahogony or something similar.. btw, you put back the bridge the wrong direction so up the fretboard on sertain strings you might be out of tune.. :D

I've noticed on several of these cheap Les Paul knockoffs you've done videos on that the bridge and tailpiece studs rattle. Way back in my misspent youth, I had a Japanese Les Paul knockoff (a Sakai) anyway, I unscrewed the studs and wrapped the threads in teflon tape and that made them feel much more solid and stopped the rattle.

  • @chrisshaw2754
    @chrisshaw2754 ปีที่แล้ว

Top wrapping the tailpiece is pretty common. It lessens the break over angle at the saddles and makes the strings feel more slinky.

when i was on westpac in 1977 while discovering the amazing town of alongapo city, nothing but bars and shops lining both sides of the street as far as the eye could see. i found a guitar store. there were gibson les pauls and fender strats hanging on every wall. i asked the shop dude how much, he said 150.00 my choice. i probably should state that i was blightly ensneebriated at the time. so being a smart shopper i said that i only had 75 bucks. he came back with125. so i took my leave of his establishment and headed for the nearest bar for more san magoo beer. even had one of the "girls" get some bar-b-q.
after a delicious meal i went back to the guitar store. a different guy was now working and i asked him how much are the guitars. he said that they we 150.00 u.s. dollars. so i came back with, i only have 75 bucks. he laughed at that. then he told me that if i threw in my watch, a pretty decent lookin seiko copy i bought in south korea for 20 bucks he could let it go for the 75. so i asked to try it out. he hooked it up to the amp and i cranked it to 10 and let it rip. the only song i could play at the time was the house of the rising sun, the way fridged pink played it years ago in 1968. lots of distortion. the next morning i awoke with a screaming banshee of a headache. lucky for me if was a saturday. late sleepers. took two 800 mg motrin's went back to sleep till noon meal was on. went and ate. bologna pinwheels, oh yea. while in a hangover stupor, one of my shippy's asked how i liked my gilson guitar. i said that it is a gibson. he got up and came back in a couple of minutes with my new axe. he asked me to spell the name on the head of the guitar out loud. so i looked at it and said. g-i-b-s-o-n. he told me close my eyes and then spell it again. i opened my eyes and spelled g-i-l-s-o-n. no way. it definitely was gilson. but looked like a beatiful cherry sunburst, it had all the right fret markers, the correct adjustable bridge and tail stop, two chrome covered humbucker's. everything looked perfect. but it was true i fell for the scam.
a year or so later i sold it to 5 mex teenagers for 300 bucks at the spring valley swap meet. i packed up my stuff and got out of there as quick as i could. but you know what. i wish i still had that gilson. it was very well made and with somebody playing it that really knew how to play, that guitar could really scream. if you ever see a fenler guitar it was probably bought in the P. I.

I wrap My strings that way, it is supposed to help with sustain is the reason I do. I learned to wrap them like that from Zakk Wylde's Les Pauls. I have seen other Players wrap Their string that way as well. I guess in the end it is personal preference. I enjoy Your Videos btw, Please keep creating good content!

My Slick SL54 single Humbucker Hardtail Strat Clone is one of my favorites, but if it had the balance issue that your Chibson has I wouldn't waste the time or money upgrading that thing. If i did anything to this it would be to carve and sand a belly relief from the the back of the guitar to help lighten and balance the body. Then I would give it a hotter Humbucker and upgrade the wiring. Upgrading the Tail Piece Bridge & Nut wouldn't be a bad idea either. Sanding off the Gibson logo and hand painting Chibson in its place could be the final touch. Not worth the time and money.

Those pots are the smallest pots i have ever saw. Sounds pretty good unplugged. Sounds pretty good plunged in. I would do the same thing with that guitar. A good neck Humbucker some Gotohs and i would replace the pots since your going into control cavity, then try to make that G a C on the headstock then proudly say its a Chipson😊 Rock On

This might sound like an odd request....but I've been looking for a Gibson with that sort of an arrangement for some time - 1 humbucker, 1 volume, and 1 tone. Every junior or one pickup guitar I see from Gibson have a P90, which I don't want. Anyone know where to source one these Chibsons that's displayed in this video? Not tooooo thrilled about going the fake route, but if it's a fixer upper and I only play it at home, I don't see what the issue would be. And I've numerous Les Pauls in the past. Definitely a Chibson. Real Gibson fret ends are bound with the fingerboard binding. The finish errors are other tell tail signs. Also, I doubt the Gibson factory would put the truss rod cover on upside down.

  • @ReVeRbx-fe5wr

One minute into the video and I already see no fret nibs on the binding. The humbucker has no screw side just two slug sides. Also, never seen Gibson do that neck joint. Also, looks like a veneer on the top. And, Gibson doesn't put string slots on the bridge saddles.

  • @nbmike65

If it was real, based on the serial #, it would’ve been a 2006 model, made on the 171st day of the year, but this is a pure chibson. Gibson stamps their headstocks, and that looks like it was routed. No tell tale wing lines on the HS, and a metric bridge seal its lineage. What seems weird is that chibson makers don’t realize that their copies resemble Epiphone models rather than real Gibsons. Another cool video sir. Chibson makers do make a pretty product, but not much for function. 👍

  • @randjak

  • @patrickkem689

    Sorry Shaun it screams Chipson!
I purchased a custom 1 pickup with a wraparound bridge off of eBay.
Got it for $320.00 took it t0 my guitar tech to basically just gut it and make a respectable guitar out of it.
First thing he caught right off the bat the bridge post was so loose you could pull the studs out by hand.
Not to mention that it was not properly measured out. So it had to be a mahogany dowel to plug it and re drill.
Well there goes that beautiful Chipson black custom Les Paul finish,,lol so while he has it I got a real nice
piece of elk antler I am going to get him to cut me out a nut . Hipshot 18.1 gold no screw tuners Got a pearly gates gold of course wiring harness
With Bourne’s pots 500 K and I had a nice bumble bee cap .022 I believe it said. I could be mistaken.
Hey if I am he will surely let me know about it that’s for sure,,lol got a tone bleed for the tone.pot. Pure tone for
the output Jack. So after I get him to put those on hopefully it will somehow resemble a playable guitar. But those frets Shaun
Almost looks like they use old rusty close hanger wire. Mine was just that corroded. No chance of any type of a level or a proper
Fret job. All for a Chinese made guitar. Would I do it again,, Hell yes! Where else you going to find a potential $6-7000.00 guitar for less
Than maybe $1200.00 tops. Just don’t go around bragging about it. lol Hey man really enjoying your video’s much appreciate them

1st the truss rod cover was upside down. If it left the factory like that Gibson's quality control needs some work.
2nd the truss rod cover says Les Paul standard. Usually would be blank.
Nice setup video, I learned a few new tips!

Lol, that's not even a good Chibson. Nice work on the frets and that thing actually sounds pretty d*mn good.

Obviously a Chibson, I'm pretty sure Gibson never released a such model, but the Jared James Nichols Gold Glory is proof there is a market for fully blinged out single pickup Les Pauls.

Funniest intro yet!🤣🤣🤣... Not a real Gibby.. The fret nibs don't cover the end of the frets.
