Terrible album, very poor compositions and/or renditions 🥁 and not interesting low singing by our man Eric, trying to sound like Morrison?....voice not suitable here, sad....💭
Maybe not their strongest release compared to the groundbreaking songwriting and choice of covers on earlier albums, but the musicianship and vocals are excellent as ever, and claiming that Eric tries to sound like Morrison is ridiculous. This is from 1966 and although Eric may have seen The Doors still just a local unsigned band in that period, live in clubs in LA at that time, he certainly would not have copied Jim. Both however were influenced by singers like Howling Wolf, Screaming Jay Hawkins, and a young James Brown, so perhaps that is why you hear similarities. If anything The Doors sounded like The Animals in the early days before stardom, not the other way around.
