  • Hi Folks,
Here's a look at the RX-5025 Radio Cassette Recorder from Panasonic. The cassette mechanism plays slow and warbly, so it gets a service and new belts! It's a beautiful machine, so please stay for the end :)

I like the yellowed pinch roller cradle and other plastic parts that were once white in that deck. You can tell it's had a lot of hours.

Yes, it's always nice to see how much a unit has been enjoyed over the years. All the more reason to give them a new lease of life for the next generation. Thanks for watching 👍

Plastic flywheels, for when equalling the build-quality of even the very first cassette recorder from 1963 is too much of an ask.

It's not often you would see a white coated PCB board. Many are reddish brown with deep green on its opposite side. With the belts, I learned to avoid those inept quality ones during my repair experience. It's not always easy to get genuine factory belts model specified.

Thanks for watching. Yes, the white boards are pretty unusual aren't they? I see them every now and again on early Astro Wars games from Grandstand (maybe 1 in 25), but not at all common.
I embarked on a project with Decktech belts around 18 months ago, helping to build a library of tested belt sizes. I spec the belts for everything I work on, and the kits can then be made available for sale - but there are so many models out there that it is a drop in the ocean. Every little helps though.
      Thanks again 👍

Cheap generic belts are fine for testing and quick resurrections of these units on the bench but not long-term usage as they degrade a lot faster than the hard-wearing brand-model-specific types (assuming they are available). Some cheapies especially those in bulk packages from China are not cut evenly or straight either so when you fit one, you may experience wow and flutter or "shaky audio" when playing a tape.
