Jedi Survivor is not a great game

  • Jedi Survivor is a good game, but there are three major issues with the gameplay that are keeping it from greatness - all of which are unrelated to the poor performance and lack of optimization (though that’s not doing it any favors, either).

The difference in the games you mentiond is sekiro and elden ring have EXTREMLY minimal story at all.

Something I think people are completely missing, that even I missed at first if not for a TH-cam comment; You CAN stance switch cancel moves. Hit the D-Pad while you’re attacking in one stance, to switch automatically into the next stance with a full on new attack. It’s a little difficult to get down consistently at first, but once you familiarize yourself with the animations & timings based on the stances you have equipped, it becomes much easier rather quickly. This can be done with any combination of two stances, in my experience with it. It doesn’t fix a whole lot about that sort of “clunk” but it does deepen the combat enough to make it just that much more interesting, at least to me. It’s made Crossguard+Blaster my favorite combo.

Great tip Ballista, had no idea you can stance swap mid attack. Like you said, it definitely doesn't solve all the combat issues but this is somewhat of a workaround to attack cancellation

RDR2 was previously my favourite story game. This definitely rivals that. And if your a SW fan, its 🔥🔥

i think that having the dual stance have the animation cancels are a core part of what makes it good. The individual strikes are minimal in damge but are very fast paced, so technically you’re just dodging between quick swings. The other stanceshave slower swings so the time t cancel is longer.

I didn't want to be negative during one of your last live plays but the amount of busy work platforming (desert cliff area) made me want to pull my hair out...and I wasn't even playing!! And I love Lucas Era Star Wars so I was hoping this would be good.

"busy work" is a great way to put it, as it's really just unfulfilling content offering no further progression to the player. it really seems like the maps were so large only because the devs saw Elden Ring and felt like they had to compensate. the game is fine if you focus only on the main quest, but there's no point to try and 100% it

@@izacpressley3569 if you enjoy the grind, more power to you. I just found it to be superfluous because it's largely insignificant. The force tears were great (especially the dual ogdos and rancors), but collecting 100 items is just a drag man

in all honesty i have to disagree with the first 3 points, they all seem to combine to simply want to make the game easier, with preference in gameplay being the factor over actual gameplay problems. Also comparing the game to elden ring when it comes to exploring is fair, but by that standard you should also compare the combat, where one of your arguments is that u dont like the combat aspect of not being able to cancel ur attacks, which is how it is in all souls games including elden ring. review ends up feeling preferential because ur opinions on combat are inconsistent with ur praise of other souls games. maybe u have more valid points, but i at least could not understand them.

    • @Mordrukk666

It's not that I'm looking for the game to be easier, just that I think the combat should be more fluid. The souls games have an excellent rhythm to combat (lookup how the boss fights are all in 4/4 time), but in this game the attacks are often way too long and end up offsetting the tempo of combat to a frustrating degree. Combined with the lack of poise and it just isn't as satisfying as it could be. If dodging could cancel attacks, it would significantly help maintain that momentum
