After hearing your explanation of how electric brakes work I now understand the purpose of the magnet. Is there a ballpark figure on how many miles can be expected out of a set of magnets and brake drums?

I find it interesting that you grease the post where the magnet slides. Is there no danger under heat conditions of the grease getting out on the magnet and contaminating the armature surface? Thanks!

Dont grease any parts. Here in arizona the grease will turn almost steal when mixed with the local dirt and weld most of them parts together. You will need a air chisel and a wire wheel to remove the grease.

so it only brakes on one shoe each direction?

same doubt here; but i think not, perhaps the magnet itself pushes on the other shoe,on the bottom ?

how do i pick a new magnet?

So...grease makes them brakes *grabby* !!! thanks, that explains maybe why i had a Jeep Cherokee where the rear brakes would *GRAB* some damp mornings, only the first times, instantly blocking the rear wheels? and that was dangerous if you were not expecting it...

My boss forces me to sand the magnet surface with a die grinder and 80 grit sanding disk as he is to cheap to pay another shop to surface the magnet area , or to cheap to purchase the proper brake drum lathe.

These brakes look very prehistoric and the operation of how they are controlled is even worse. ...You operate them independently from the cab? This is very strange indeed. Do you not have any proper braking laws where all brakes should work in harmony and not independently from each other.
Do you not have some sort of rheostat calibrated to the brake pedal for the trailer? I don't know if you know but trailer brakes should have slight predominace over the towing vehicle?

You need to Study-up on trailer braking systems and you'll understand how they work and what controls them. Simple, cost effective and reliable as hell. Don't criticize what you don't know about.

cosgrove notts /By your comment you clearly don’t know anything about electric trailer brakes.

@@Oldtech51 how about the predominance?...does *that* make sense, or what?
edited ,....after i see that c.n. is right ; i mean...300 doll.brake controller? otherwise the thing never works right?? go right to the "end" of this to see:
