Remote-Controlled 900+ Horsepower Caterpillar Bulldozer

  • What you're looking at here is Caterpillar's massive D11T bulldozer being operated using a remote control joystick.
    It outputs over 900 horsepower, and has an operating weight of over 120 tons. Top speed is just 7.3mph going forward and 8.7mph in reverse, but who cares? It's a freaking bulldozer that works with remote joysticks.
    It's like the world's greatest remote-controlled toy - except it's actually designed for moving huge piles of earth in locations too dangerous for human operators.

    Why ?? I've been an operator for 42 years. ABSOLUTELY no possible way this will ever be more productive than a skilled operator in the seat.

      Its for putting a machine in a harmful situation that would harm a human. IE chernobyl where radiation would kill a person but a machine will operate perfectly fine.

    Hi, Folks.
    Do you mean that some poor sucker has to STAND out in the blazing sun to operate that machine instead of being in the cab in air-conditioned comfort?
    More than half the fun of operating these machines is the sense of power and control that you get from being right there in the seat, and FEELING the machine do what you tell it to do. I somehow that the same level of control is possible OFF the machine, even if there is a shady tree close by for the operator to stand under - - - or sit if the employer is thoughtful enough to provide a seat.
    I have never operated a remote controlled machine but, after 50+ years of seat time, I think I'd still prefer to up there in the seat. I learned a LONNNGGG time ago that the machine will only be as rough on you as you are on it.
    Just my 0.02.
    You all have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

    • @sergiosimonetti
      @sergiosimonetti 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      maybe they use this way to operate in a poor security task as a minefield i suppose

    • @dplant8961
      @dplant8961 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi, Sergio S.
      They have been using RC 'dozers for some years now for various tasks, mainly around large open-cut mines for either overburden removal or restoration, supposedly to avoid the possibility of human injury in the event of an 'accident'. I would suggest that 'accidents' might be a fair bit LESS likely with a good operator sitting in the seat and having 'seat-of-the-pants' feel of the machine.
      Just my 0.02.
      You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

      Agreed, no AC cab? What's crazy about those is how quiet they are in the cab, that will come in handy for Trumps wall project although they do have bullet proof glass in the cabs already.

    • @clintjones1193
      @clintjones1193 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In some mines they are removing the overburden to get to veins of coal or other mineral which had been mined up to 100 years prior by using tunnelling..driving a 100 ton machine over these old shaft is very risky so remote machines can be used to keep the operator out of harms way.

      Normally they'll do orange beacons but blue is the same, when it's put into the quarry or construction site it's so other operators in sometimes bigger vehicles can see them. And some companies work late afternoons and in bad weather.

    seems hard to run. I've been told to run equipment by the seat of your pants. meaning you have to feel the machine to run it as it tilts or rocks back and forth ECT. seems like it takes talent to run it effectively and accurate.
