Well folks, if you are into drama, this video may be the one for you to watch. Also, included in this adventure, is a never seen before on TH-cam function of the bee vac, as well as how I use brood comb as bait.
The video is about removing a hive of bees from a dead pine tree, and to assist me in doing this, I have my good friend and super tree removal expert Tony the tree guy. This guy handles a chainsaw like a painter handles a paint brush, a real artist. As promised in the video, the links below are a few other videos that Tony has wielded his skills to help me relocate bees.
Like I said before, there's lots of drama in this one, including a bit of the 628 Dirt Rooster, so I'm hoping to provide some entertainment value for your weekend to help get it started. God's peace to all. Mr. Ed

You know when the seasons are changing when Mr. Ed's beard starts growing again! Because of the virus, I didn't shave this year, but otherwise I'd be starting my winter beard as well!

Poor Mr. Ed has the dropsies today! LOL. I love that Tony the tree-guy has the concern for nature that he calls Mr. Ed when they find a bee-tree--he wants the bees to succeed too! A lot of environmentalists act like loggers don't care about forests, just take-take-take, but that's really not true. Many like our Mr. Tony! God bless you both, and tell Mr. Charlie we said hi!

Nice save on finding the queen after dropping her 2 times and you didn't step on her ! The cutting of the tree in half and looking like you didn't hit the hive ! That was a fantastic work of art. This is a great video and looking forward to watching the next one .
Actually, I never dropped her once, both times she escaped. The first time through the broken cage, and the second time she flew out the cage before I could close it. Still in the end, she wound up captured. Tony is a real master of the chainsaw. Glad to hear you enjoyed the video and I look forward to hearing from you again. God's peace.

I absolutely love late Oct/Nov in Louisiana. Nothing like a good cuppa, beignets, and sitting on the banks of the Mississippi at night, watching the fog roll across working barges.
In a surprising turn of events, the kitten decided to get right up in front of the computer today. Lexi did more of a listen and purr from a distance, but the kitten actively tried to catch some bees, trees, the Dirt Rooster, you... Inky is nothing if not ambitious. (We had an early morning fire alarm false alarm through our apartment complex, and an Abbott and Costello routine with the fire trucks apparently not knowing half the parking lot is a construction zone they can no longer reach the complex thru. 🤦🏼♀️ Lexi spent most of the time we were outside telling us how cold she was and how much she didn't appreciate being outside, and hasn't moved from her heated bed since we were allowed back in.)
...and wait, bees get stuck in the hose?! I don't think I recall you ever mentioning that before! And I know you don't normally name your queens, but I'm pretty sure that's Queen Dorothy, after Dietrich, the famous escape artist. 😂
Hope you and yours are all safe, and outside Delta's path. Best from the already frigid Northeast.
It's so good to hear that Lexi is teaching the new kitty, Inky?, the finer points of bee wrangling. Pretty soon they may both be laying down and purring while watching. Bees will clog the hose very often when honey is vacuumed, but blowing the hose cleans them right out. You and the kitties stay warm. God's peace Kelly.

My first cutout I caught the Queen. Put her in the cheap cage that came with my kit. Set her on the foundation next to the hive. And just happened to see her walking up the wall again.
Caught her again. Put the cage and her in a small cardboard box that closed up tight. That was Queen Zoey ( granddaughter helped paint and named her). My aquarium hive was her new home.
There's always excitement when it comes to wrangling bees, although sometimes we'd prefer a little less. God's peace brother.

Jeff use metal cage, so its not broke that easily
roller cages are the safest.
I have used metal cages before, and the metal ones are stronger, but I prefer the plastic ones more, they open wider. Thanks for your suggestion and for watching. God's peace.

I actually live very close to madisonville. Hopefully everything will be going good in the next few days, i've been hearing rain for the past few hours and i'm just hoping the storm doesnt wipe us out.
Since you are so close, you should consider making a visit to the abbey and checking out our honey operation, as well as the abbey itself. That queen was playing hard to keep hehe . Well the good thing is these bees will now have a place to live where the chances their hive can be flooded out is less likely. I’m a little late watching....been having a flare of my lupus and haven’t even felt like watching my favorite youtubers. But I think I’m doing better, so I’m catching up. Wow! A true Queen always knows how to give a show! When she got lost the first time I was confident you would find her, but even though the second time only lasted seconds (on camera), I must admit my heart just dropped and I thought she might be gone for good (lol, or at least overnight!). But you spotted her (with the Grace of God), and now they can all find a new home together. Your friend Tony is truly a master with that chainsaw. I enjoyed watching him work. The first piece of equipment I saw in the video was that crane, and I feared for a greater tragedy.

The hair clip one is a much better clip, it closes by itself. The other one needs to be pushed to close and that's all the time it took for the queen to fly out of it. I had the angels working overtime with me on this one. Thank you for your blessing and for watching. God's peace JJ.

Mr Ed, why do you grow a beard? I'm a relative new viewer so I don't know if you have a particular reason for it. This was a breathtaking queen catch for sure with a lot of suspense. I was relieved you got her in the end. A shout out to your saw expert Tony. It's great that he wants to help the bees and calls you when he sees a hive in a tree that has to come down.
The reason I grow my beard is because I have such a distaste for cold weather. Growing a beard really does keep my face warmer, but once our winter is over and the heat returns, the beard comes off. Those wimpy little queen clips have the grip of vice grips when you are trying to get them out in a hurry. Oh no! faulty clip. lol Should name that queen Ms. Houdini. Escape artist. Nice removal of a big tree hive. Thanks Mr. Ed and Tony the Tree Man.

There certainly was a lot of drama in this video, but in the end, the queen was captured and it did make for some entertaining video. Tony and I have been friends for over 20 years, but he has been a tree surgeon for at least 25, a real artist. Thanks for watching. God's peace.
