The conversation about the barrel lady betrays a lack of appreciation of just how powerful the falls were before the advent of hydrogenation plants that cut the volume down. They still are powerful and the water that makes that plunge meets hard ragged dolomite--a type of obdurate stone. At my every visit to the falls I always think of how preposterous it seemed to think going down the falls in a barrel is.
I literally (yes actually literally, pedants) had to stop the video after the drowning fish gag I was laughing so hard. Took me about a minute to catch my breath. Thank you all for the amazing production.

I've just realized that Gary is Karl Pilkington but with the intelligence and experience to back up his claims on exceedingly improbable things.
Honestly, I never pictured her in the barrel with a lid on either - thanks for so much laughter today
And now, 4 years later, Tom has video footage of the last working Blondin in Britain!
And now he has a video where he walks a tightope (not over Niagara Falls though)!
And now he has also learned tightrope walking!

Today is the day I've finally seen Tom walk a tightrope, and I immediately thought of this video.
People barreling over Niagara Falls do it *proper* Hobbit-style, not like that movie nonsense with the inexplicable water battle.
