  • This customer needed their oak tree cut back and pruned as it was taking over the whole garden! So I give it a really good trim and shape up.

Much trimmed off but still unbalanced more weight over the shed and neibours garden or did they want it left that way to obscure next row of houses.Great kit to prune from ground level.

      Thanks
I did forget to mention that the reason for the tree growing like this is that there was a larger tree next to it that had already been removed! It had forced this oak to grow out for the light. 🙂

My rule says tree and shrub limbs should reach for the sky or they are gone. And that tree is definitely too wide. Also we need to seriously consider the neighbors

Being an oak tree it has a natural spreading habit so not all limbs will grow straight up. As I mentioned in another comment there was another tree next to this that had already been removed. This tree had forced the oak to grow out reaching for the light which is why it had grow in a strange shape. I removed as much as possible so not to shock the tree to much. 👍

Limbs to the left which hang over the fence should have been removed

It looks like it but there is a larger tree behind the one I was pruning! I did remove the limbs that were overhanging the neighbours garden.

You can't leave branches cut like that, maybe if it's a Willow, but never an Oak. The branch will dry out and start to root. Pruning is when You leave something at the cut that can draw the Sap, not a straight cut.
What You should start with is to find the balance over the Root. Stand a bit from the tree and hold out Your arm with something Vertical, then walk around 90 degrees and do the same. Start with the main branches and cut near the stem, so that the bark can grow over the wound. You can find good tips in books of P.P. Pirone i.e.

It’s not unusual to prune oak trees here in the uk. I’ve seen trees much larger pruned and respond really well.
I would not recommend it unless absolutely needed. In this case it was definitely needed. In France they even pollard oak trees where the wood is used for fire wood!

@@mdgardenservices7819 It's not if, more the way that You execute the pruning, small details and lack of balance
