That's In my back yard. Hope you enjoyed you flight up here. Would love to see more of the west coast in your videos. Travel safe!
"Undercarriage down and welded" ... good one. On take-off, I was waiting for SteveO to call gear up and tap the brakes.
HA! I missed that one.
hahah L0ol Yaw damper on. flaps up too!!
hehe yeah, and don't forget the yaw damp lol
To be fair I'm sure it has flaps
I am pretty sure this is the longest comment thread I've ever seen on any of your videos. Obviously a strong and loyal group of followers from the Left Coast!
Thanks for posting this Steve. Brings back some very fond memories. I've been loving living in North Carolina for the past 15 years now; but I was born in Portland, learned my career skill (Weather) at McChord AFB, spent the first several years of my married life in the Tacoma area (where our two older daughters were born), and then returned 'home' to the Napa Valley prior to moving east... So this trip of yours recalled most of the first 35 years of my life to memory. Thanks for the visual journey down memory lane! :D
always fun to watch. 😀
I’m a yacht captain here, welcome to our playground, I hope you had a great trip. You should see it at 14 knots at sea level!
View at 12:55 off the right wing is Seattle's Elliott Bay, with lots of piers for commercial shipping, ferry boats running out of a couple piers, also could see the large grain terminal at waters edge (tall grain silos) for shipping grain worldwide, then there are the pro baseball and football/soccer stadiums as well.
Steveo flies a little airplane! Diamonds are lots of fun (they started life as gliders). The San Juan's and surrounding WA mainland are a beautiful area to fly in!!
That Radome is in the Magnolia neighborhood (perviously Fort Lawton), build in 1959 for the nearby Nike missile defense systems about 10 miles east of Seattle.
blog.seattlepi.com/thebigblog/2013/04/09/what-is-that-giant-golf-ball-in-seattle-sky/
+Lone Adventurer -- 13:08 "It's even on the charts, it says 'radome.'"
There is a big water tower in Magnolia, as well as the radome located on the old Fort Lawton grounds. You can't see the radome from waterfront Seattle or the ferry boats, so fewer people know about it.
Did most part of my flying training on the West Coast and it was the best experience (and sceneries) of my life! Still homesick to flying there 🙂
Those Cessna's in the very beginning of the video is what got me really into Aviation and got me my PPL. Love my hometown of Medford no matter how smokey it gets down there.
I grew up on Whidbey Island, just south of Orcas, and visited Orcas at least once a years. The cruising the San Juans should be on everyone's bucket list.
Radome is probably the Whidbey Island ASR-8 Radar.
I love seeing this group of aviators getting together!
Finished up my PPL in the DA-40. Watching this video reminds me of how much I appreciate the ability to crack open the canopy in the Lancair 360 and take in all the air from behind the prop. Life safer on a hot day....plus the sliding shade that blocks all of the direct sunlight. Great video guys!
Very cool. KORS is one of my favourite destinations, and KMFD and cascade approach were fantastic when I had a rough running engine a few weeks ago. This was definitely a beautiful place to learn, glad you got to experience it.
Hey Steveo: So nice to know that you finally made it up to our part of North America. It's too bad that the Diamond Hill and BC Interior Fires decided to get a little crazy this year, but I'm sure you got a bit of an idea of why so many of us call The Best Coast home! BTW: During my time with the Canadian Coast Guard, (in the late 1970's and early 1980's) I sailed on a Cutter off this coast. It's just as beautiful all the way up to Alaska and that's why we call it the Best Coast. Hope you come back real soon, and this time make it up into Beautiful British Columbia!
Good to see you Steveo.
05:14 Take-off
18:10 Landing
Nice video. Safe travels!
Like your videos and especially enjoy the collaboration videos with Flight Chops and now Jason Miller. Can't wait for more!
Another great flight Steveo.
Saw my house while you were over Vashon Island. Very cool!
Always enjoyable and entertaining SteveO! Great guest on board.
Great video! Fun to see you fly in another part of the US. The Orcas Island approach was beautiful!
What a great way to start my day! Thanks Steveo. Looking forward to the next one.
West coast blows the east coast out of the water. I live in Florida like you, Steveo. I've spent a lot of time all along the west coast, northern and southern. Nothing like it. Best scenery in the USA.
@10:45 you asked about the body of water. Off your nose is Vashon Island so to the left is Puget Sound between Vashon Island and the Olympic Peninsula. Off your right wing @10:53 is Quartermaster Harbor and further in the haze Puget Sound between Vashon & Murray Island and SeaTac Airport & Des Moines, WA. Great vid as always... "We're going faster than something!"
Glad to see you on my west coast, Stevo! And awesome to see you in the DA40! I am almost done with my PPL training in the DA40!
Jason is top notch....so awesome you came to west coast to hook up with him.
Thanks Jimmy!
Great to see you on the west coast Stevo!
Thanks for sharing, Steve
Looks like fun! Thanks for sharing. I love the terrain.
Love me some Jason Miller! Dude is so smooth.
My home area just out of Seattle to the west! The smoke/haze has been rough with all the fires that have happened lately, been hard on us pilots in training! Happy to see you made it over!
17:24 - I am learning to fly out of Orcas and wow it's awesome to see that left downwind for 16 out of the plane that Steveo is in!
18:20 is also super awesome for me to see. xD
Ahhh! This video makes me so excited!!!
20:04 - What??? FlightChops was there as well?? How did I not know this was happening at my local airport???
I was wondering how they get gasoline into that pump station at the airport.
Great way to start the morning, watching you fly directly over my hometown. Hope you come back to the PNW soon! Love the vids, Steveo. Keep up the good work!
Well now, that was quite enjoyable. I've been missing your vlogs and always look forward to seeing more from you. Looks like everyone had a great time. Thanks again, Steveo. ;)
So fun to see Jason, I listened to the finer points from episode one.
Another DA40 owner checking-in (N247DS-complete with Premier edition AC and thick, cushy seats!). Love your videos Steve! So thrilled to see you in a Diamond!
Steveo your video was awesome, I always look forward to them.
willie Hege thanks Willie!
I completed my Private Pilot in the DA40 out of Boeing field, love flying in WA!
Another great video! Thanks for sharing.
Finally.. FINALLY! Jason Miller!!!
Awesome! I have my first checkout ride in a DA40 this weekend! So pumped!
I fly out to Orcas island all the time! You can take that little trail at the airport into town. There are some great restaurants not too far away! So cool to see you flying out in my neck of the woods!!
+Cameron Beardsley that trail and the town is awesome! Definitely want to return to that island again in the future.
Nice to see you in the sky,, no gear up, tap brakes, intake separator, etc, .
Thanks Steveo :) I've always wanted to fly but never have the time or money to do it. With you posting your Vids on here its like I can finally be in the cockpit with someone flying :)
Looked great from over here in the UK! Thanks for another fantastic video.
I'm originally from Seattle. Everybody that visits always says how beautiful it is. Of coarse that is between the months of July thru September. Visit any other month and you'll see why it's so green and lush.. RAIN. And breaks of showers .
Glad you could see the west coast area, Medford Oregon is beautiful place, you visited the airport that I work at back in the 90's hope that your experience over here was great!!
So awesome man!! I recently got my private pilots license at the Boeing field! I lived on Vashon when I was in my training and had to commute on the ferries, and to see you fly straight over Vashon and through airspace I trained in is so cool!! Keep doing what you do man! Really enjoy all your videos!!
Also watching the end of the video I recognize 2 Galvin instructors that both gave me stage checks haha
Congrats on your PPL! I earned mine with Galvin about five years ago, now. Flying out of Boeing is a real treat for sure.
Small world. I'm training at Galvin right now and am a 5th generation Vashon Islander myself.
Good to see you on the west coast!
great job.. always look forward to your vlogs
Too bad it was so smoked. Beautiful area to fly in. Completed my first CC at Medford. Steve...I love seeing you fly some of the smaller airplanes most is relate to. Please do more West Coast.
Steveo, another great video and flight. Love the Pacific Northwest especially around Friday Harbor, all of Vancouver island and then around Vancouver mainland and East to the Rockies.
I am also a strong MS Flight Simmer and the scenery depictions are very real.
Visited there last August. The whale watching boat left from right beside the airport. Stayed and ate at Inn at Ship Bay. Loved the island, the Inn and the everyone was super helpful...
Hey Stevo, Welcome to the LEFT COAST. It's good to see you out here. I hope you can make it to my neck of the woods...SoCal someday. CHEERS, Kenny
So happy to see you back, Robert From Melbourne Fl.
Fort Lawton Air Force Station is a closed United States Air Force General Surveillance Radar station. I believe that is the radome you are referring to. Another great video, Steve. Thanks!
Good video, thanks guys!...
I miss WA! I’m in Alaska, now. Welcome to the west (best) coast, Steveo!
The Radome that you are interested in is part of an underwater communications system for the Hood Canal Submarine Base. LiDAR and RADAR installations are protected from winds of up to 150 mph by domes.
Looking forward to going flying with Jason in 9 days.
I'll be in San Francisco for a few days for a conference visiting from Australia and have booked in with Jason!
Great job on all your videos @steveo1kinevo !
Ah, welcome to KORS! One of the best little airports anywhere. Love flying into the island.
Day a little brighter when you get a Steve new video notification. :)
Great video as always Steveo! Keep 'em coming.
Zac3200 glad you enjoyed the video. 👍🏼
Wish I knew you would be here in WA. Big fan of videos. Was just flying the Seattle sky line the other night. Awesome to see you hear flying in the same airspace I've flown. Great job. Hope you enjoyed the islands
Finally up in my neck of the woods (islands)! :) Yeah, that smoke this summer was terrible. Definitely didn't want to go outside if you didn't have to. Great vid Steve!
Another great video - thank you!
Steveo, it is great to see you out in God's country (West Coast) flying our beautiful terrain. Great video, keep them coming.....
I love the DA-40! Got a few hours in it. My training was in the littler DA-20!
Amazing video steveo! Never been to the PNW but it looks beautiful.
Really good video.
Please try and make more like it.
Very entertaining
Hey Steveo. Glad you're back in the left seat again. West Coast scenery would be MUCH improved if they could get a break from all those dang fires. See ya.
Lots of new things lately. Still great to watch your videos
currently doing my training in N443DS!
Cool plane, solid co-pilot, neat area of the country and probably one of the most beautiful approaches you've ever done man! Hope you enjoyed some cold ones and gave a shout-out to NAS Whidbey approach on the flight in.
Steve! i met you at Oshkosh EAA over the summer i was star struck very nervous.thanks for taking the time to talk to me once again great video.
Very nice flight. Very nice landing.
Great flight thanks.
Well Steveo, THIS was different ! Great video of some amazing scenery, cool fellow pilot and great little airplane. Thanks for this !
That was a cool little flight.
That tower you flew over is discovery park. Used to be an old military base. It's cool seeing you fly over my home town! I'm currently in flight school over in Moses lake. This past summer was a bad year for wild fires, sorry you couldn't see more.
Woah! I just discoveredFiner points podcast. And here you are flying with ‘em!
Nice to see you fly the smaller planes . . . yeah-hoo!
Looks like you got a shot of Mt. Hood outside of portland ... looks like a fun trip
Love flying with you Steve.Sure wish you were here in Cleburne,Texas too teach.Would love for you too my instructor.I've learned alot from you brother.\./
I love the DA40, but my biggest gripe with it is the total lack of adjustment in the seats. So, a cushion for comfort, and a boost for my shorter frame is a must.
That's funny, prop full rich, Lol, love it.
Good video. Survival school. That's good training.....The Diamond looks like an oven with that canopy.
Great video steveo
Nice Video!! Seattle area is so beautiful.
Steveo, Glad to see you made it this far west. They have incredible seafood on Oregons west coast. Take it from me and I come from Maine. Wished you stopped by Boise, Idaho. They had the Thunderbirds and Canadian Snowbirds performing the past two days. Anyway, Great Vlog. Jason is a cool guy. Great Flight.
That little white ball that you guys flew over was part of Naval air station whereby Island, they use that to practice jamming radar signals With the EA6B aircraft.
First time seeing go pro “jello” effects from cam mounted on dash. Great flight. Nice to see west coast views!
Would love to see more videos like this. Would also love to see you do a flight in a corporate jet!
Flying in my neighborhood! It's an incredible area to fly. KORS is a beautiful little airport.
Flown into Medford a couple of times.. Used to live 30 miles up the road in Grants Pass. I miss the Beaver state for sure!
Loved seeing my hometown!!! Sorry it was so hot and Smokey, but that's a southern oregon summer lol, should try and make your way here late spring early summer!!!
Also that hill you saw off the right wing or as you sat on 32 to take off is called Roxyann.
Steve, Welcome to MY home state of Washington. I live about 30 miles south of Orcas and been to all the San Juans. Perhaps I should mention I'm the retired Director of Aviation for this state. Yup 25 years with State Air and left with just over 7000 hours. Have fun while you're here and try to see Friday Harbor. Bill
+elraton3045 Bill, you live in a very beautiful area! Thanks for watching.
