Something Wicked This Way Comes is a fantastic novel. Great fall read. Has a lot of heart for a horror coming of age story. Relatable characters throughout.
I’m finally going to be reading Something Wicked This Way Comes, this October. I ordered it shortly after taking some recommendations from your series of “My 100 Favourite Books” videos, when you counted them all down to #1. (I’ve also got The Covenant handy, but that’s for after spooky season.) I should have got to it before now, but better late than unread. My second favourite Horror movie, after Ganja & Hess, is…Killer Klowns from Outer Space! It’s not that scary, actually - but I still love it. As far as Clown-crowded, or Carnival-centered Horror novels go, I don’t think I have much for you that you’re not already completely aware of. My favourite Crime & Mystery writer, Fredric Brown, set a few creepy whodunits and suspense novels in a carnival setting: Madball, The Dead Ringer, the short novel called The Freak Show Murders, and the novella called The Pickled Punks (which got modified and lengthened until it became Madball). All recommended, if you are willing to visit some creepy carnivals over in the Crime genre.
Thanks for watching! I hope you enjoy both Something Wicked This Way Comes and The Covenant. Killer Klowns From Outer Space sounds like a fun time. Thank you for the carnival-centred crime novel recommendations.
I want to read Mystery Walk one day. McCammon is always a good time. I’ve also heard Kelsi say great things about The Pilo Family Circus. Great list, Cliff!
I've only read one of these, and I just read it a few weeks ago - Something Wicked this way comes. I bet Anita had fun giving you a clown makeover for that thumbnail!
Something wicked this way comes was great. I am not gonna lie...I almost DNF'd it, b/c it was my first novel by him, and I was not used to his writing. But I gave it a few more chapters and I am so glad I did! Beautiful story. I was actually craving Carnival Horror and just got through reading The Cotton Candy Massacre. It was good...if you are looking for Splatterpunk style Clown horror.
Thanks for watching! I am so glad you enjoyed Something Wicked This Way Comes, I love Ray Bradbury. I am planning to read The Cotton Candy Massacre soon. 🎃🎃
I absolutely loved Freezer Burn! I'm trying to get through Lansdale's entire backlist. I have read Clowns vs Spiders and gave it 5 stars. I even cried. 😂 I have also read the entire Clown in a Cornfield series and really enjoyed them. Other clown/carnival horror I own but haven't read yet are a follows: Midnight Under the Bigtop (anthology) edited by Brian James Freeman Twilight Eyes by Dean Koontz Nightmare Carnival (anthology) edited by Ellen Datlow The Cotton Candy Massacre by Christopher Robertson Tastes Like Candy by Ivy Tholen Carni by R. Saint Claire (she has booktube channel too) The Black Carousel by Charles Grant 🤡🎪🎡🎠
I absolutely love Joe R Lansdale Leslie. The Drive-In is my favorite. Thank you for the other recommendations. I am dying to get to The Cotton Candy Massacre and Carni.
Man I need to read Ray Bradbury finally! If I was to start my dean Koontz journey, which would you recommend? This one sounds pretty great! And omg mystery walk! I need to read that one too. I get like 3 great recommendations from every video of yours, you’re wreaking havoc on my tbr my friend! 😂❤ great video as always!
Thanks my friend! 😂I would recommend Watchers or Intensity, the two best Koontz books, in my opinion. I really hope you enjoy Ray Bradbury, will be interested to hear your thoughts.
@@CliffsDarkGems great to hear! Thanks so much for the recommendations! More for the TBR, but definitely not complaining! 😂❤️ you are a gem among Cliffs my friend!
I'm so excited I'm going to be reading Something Wicked This Way Comes the last week of October because that's when the book is set. Also I'm not done with the video yet but it makes me think of another Carnival book which I read and enjoyed it's called Full Tilt by Neal Shusterman I believe it's probably YA but honestly I think any age could enjoy it.
I don't understand the fear or fascination of clowns/killer clowns. I loved It by Stephen King and the Tim Curry version. But I juist don't find clowns scary at all.🤡
Absolutely! I suppose people are just afraid of different things, that's all. I loved It and I love the concept of scary clowns, but I also don't find them particularly terrifying.
Clowns vs. Spiders is fantastic! I loved it!
Thanks for watching! I am really looking forward to the read.
Lots of fun recs! I love reading these types of settings too. Y’all are gonna love Clowns vs Spiders. It’s a fun time.
Thanks Crystal, I am looking forward to it.

Great list! My recommendation would be Cirque Berzerk by Jessica Guess!
Can't believe you didn't even blink when your ghoul/skeleton fell 😮
Thanks for the recommendation Michelle! I didn't even notice until after shooting lol 🤣

It's a well-known fact that serial killer John gacy actually was a clown named Pogo who performed at birthday parties
Make of that what you will
Thanks for watching Jamie! Yes, that is a terrifying fact about Gacy.
