Best band ever, full stop. The lyrics on Analog Kid are very powerful - as with most of the Signals album.

No kidding. If you don't get a lump in your throat listening to the lyrics of "Losing It" then you need to check your pulse.

    • @mycroft16

Signals and Presto both had some heavy hitting lyrics. I mean every Rush song almost is, but those two really stand out to me.

Two great choices that are less known. Analog Kid is my absolute favorite song. So glad to see you do it. Was so thrilled to finally see this live on the Time Machine tour.

The woman in the Time Stand Still video is Aimee Mann. She is best known as the singer for a band called 'Til Tuesday which had a minor hit in the 80s called 'Voices Carry'.

p.s. 'Beast Mode' Rush - I love it.

And she absolutely HATED working with Rush for some strange reason. She still harps about it and here it is freaking 32 years later. The guys were a lot more politic about it, but I think the feeling was mutual.

    • @ischmidt

When I was young it was a good song and I loved the "definitely Alex's idea" music video. Now that I'm 50, the "Summer's going fast..." part hits me like a freight train. Neil was at the top of his lyrical game in that Moving Pictures through Counterparts stretch.

I saw them play both songs on the Counterparts tour. I can say without a doubt both songs sounded so much better live than they did in the studio. Neil's drums became a giant clock on the chorus of 'Time Stand Still'. Alex's guitar solo on 'The Analog Kid' was, if I may borrow your term, sir, 'BEAST MODE'! Best concert I've ever been to by a huge margin. They will never be forgotten!

TNT, I am a Rush Addict since the 70's, official name from the roadies is "Punter", not meant to be good. The best man at my wedding was the lead carpenter for Rush and i have met them and been back stage 7 times. We Rush fans are so glad you are appreciating their magic talents. YOU GET IT !!! Their music is 1/2 but the " words and emotions" are the other 1/2. Talk about your emotional connection more . You must study history and then read the words of "Manhattan Project" This is a MUST for you.

Did you know Geddy Lee is a HUGE baseball fan? Did you know there is a Geddy Lee exhibit at the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City? On a Rush tour Geddy visited the museum while in KC and he was so inspired that when a few years later he came upon a large collection of baseballs signed by Negro League players he bought the entire collection of over 400 baseballs and donated it to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. Geddy also owns a baseball that has been signed by every MLB player with 3,000 hits or more. In non pandemic times you will often see Geddy Lee sitting in his front row seat behind home plate at Toronto Blue Jays games.

I started listening to them in '78 when my older cousin ripped one of my KISS records off the turntable and said "Enough of that, time for some RUSH". He put on their 1st live album, and I was hooked, KISS days were over, lol. Going into the 80's I lost touch with them for a couple years, and around '84 a friend loaned me Signals and the one after that, Grace Under Pressure, saying "It's not great, they've started using too many synthesizers". I said "ok", and took them home and listened. He was WRONG about them not being great anymore! I LOVED those albums!

I forgot how great that solo from Alex was on Anolog Kid. Livestream Yes!! Geddy Lee plays bass guitar and is an exceptional bass player! Either he or Alex will play bass pedals if there is a part in the sing that requires keyboards and bass at the same time. All of them are part octopus! LOL
Where's my thing/ Here it was live in Dallas shows off both Geddy's bass skills and Neil's drumming skills.
Not sure what you have reacted to from them but here are some more songs.

Time Stand Still is a low-key air-drum song. Doesn't sound crazy on the surface, but there are tons of catchy fills in there.
Geddy will usually play bass pedals when he's on the keyboard, then switch to his bass when there are no keyboard parts.
Some more 80's goodness, if you haven't hit them yet:

Respect that you've discovered the magna view of Rush as a legendary band, and that you have watched the appropriate documentary.

A Rush concert DVD you ought to check out is, “Rush In Rio”. It’s very good and you can see their professionalism and will really end up appreciating the band more.

You are so right, Alex is an absolute beast on the guitar, so underrated in my opinion.

Fantastic reaction to both these songs!!! When they perform these songs live, Geddy obviously plays bass. But when he goes to the keyboards, he plays bass on foot pedals like a church organist would do. Also, along with playing guitar Alex also has foot pedals that do the orchestra strings backing on the songs that have that. I highly recommend Camera Eye, Red Barchetta, Early Distant Warning, Kid Gloves, Freewill, Xanadu live, Marathon live, Working Man live from Cleveland, Nobody's Hero, Ghost of a Chance, Roll The Bones.

This one is definitely a banger.mints fun and it makes you smile. Masters of the transition. Rush can get into and out of style, time signatures with ease.

The woman is Aimee Mann, and she she sings the title in the chorus. Some might recall her from the late 80's song by her former band Til Tuesday, 'Hush Hush'. She's a great songwriter in her own right.

EXCELLENT choices. Time Stand Still is so nostalgic- such powerful lyrics. And Analog Kid is a flat-out gem. My teen son's favorite song. He's got great taste. :o)
