I think Palpatine could've created Rey on either Jakku or the Death Star and maybe that's why she goes back to the second Death Star. She senses the remains (or possibly his life essence) of her Creator and seeks to destroy the past.
I'm tempted to say it'll take great inspiration from Legends and have the whole clone bodies thing, but I feel that would be too controversial and too risky for an already divided fandom. It could be something to do with that "World Beyond" that Vader discovered in the newer comics when trying to bring Padmé back, Kylo could have gone into that world and spoken with him or something since he alone would have knowledge of some of the forgotten secrets of the Sith and Dark Side.
The only way of the top of my head this would work. Is if all the heros gather together to fight palpatine and fail and in the last min force ghost vadar comes back to finish him
Yes Palpatine, the hero that caused the death of hundreds of jedi, turned the most powerfull jedi (that he created) to become an evil sith lord. Created an empire that held the galaxy with an iron fist, blew up planets and tried to murder luke Skywalker infront of his father. Not to mention how was also a sith lord. Nathan you’ve got to remember, that one laugh will sell millions and millions of dollars worth of tickets, they MAY have taken the easy/lazy route, though with all the publicity they’re giving Ian in the build up, I’m guessing he’ll play a reasonably big part.
According to Ian, he didn’t even come in to do the laugh it was taken from a previous recording that wasn’t used. We’ll see in what form he comes back in but it’s best not to overhype it

The prophecy was a bad prophecy. Anakin wasn't the hero, he was meant to bring balance to the force. The Jedi had become WAY too powerful and totally dominated the Sith. He helped the Emperor nearly wipe out the Jedi, bringing balance back.

It’s nice to know that Ian and Ray appreciate what the saga has done for them. I love how happy and charismatic they are toward their roles, the saga, and of course their fans. Such great people.
I mean this shouldn't come as a surprise, the Original trilogy, Indiana Jones Trilogy, American Grafiti, the clone wars, even parts of the prequels have all had great direction, all thanks to Lucas. Sure he has made some mistakes (Anakin/Padme love story for example, some of that Dialogue was just BAD), but as a whole he is a great director.

Some may say they're just doing this to save the movie, that's probably the truth but at the same time I think it's a great move. Maybe they'll listen to some of the fan favourite theories that'll tie into why Palpatine is back.
Honestly I hope Palpatine is not brought back alive in Episode 9. Though I love Palpatine, his return would completely undermine Anakin’s sacrifice in Return of the Jedi.
@@LameSidious what I'm thinking is that Palpatine wasn't lying when he told Anakin that his master Plagueis had the ability to maintain life, but unlike Plagueis, Palpatine was so powerful with the force that when he learned it he could save even himself with that power, unlike Plagueis. But since Palpatine was thrown down the shaft by Vader so suddenly, he was late to use his power, and rather than keeping himself alive, he used his ability to trap himself in a half living half dead limbo, like the Nazgul from the Lord of the rings Rings. This way Ian is right that he's technically dead, but Palpatine is also alive in a sense which allows him to return in episode 9
Ian is such an incredible person and I’m very grateful that I had the opportunity of meeting him at Celebration. I couldn’t really say much to him but being able to shake his hand and thank him was incredible. Can’t wait to see his role in Episode IX...

Since they are apparently doing the Old Republic, they might be taking stuff from Legends. So he might have used the essence transfer that Palpatine used in Dark Empire.
Ian McDiarmid's return has definitely spurred my interest in Episode 9! I think he's most likely going to return in the form of flashbacks, but with an evil laugh like that, it could also mean that he's well and truly alive. It would really suck though, to bring him back only so he could be killed by Rey.
Maybe the movie will end with him killing Rey and “once more the Sith will rule the galaxy! And we shall have peace.” THE END But he should definitely kill Kylo though, whiny teenager killed the new trilogy..
I think it works better for Ian since he's not based off of something from a comic, so I feel he probably had a little bit more freedom with his character.
Can’t wait for all the theories! I love the idea of smoke being a dark side creature that has gone from body to body to find a stronger force user every time. It’s the exact idea I came up with for fun a year ago when thinking of my own version of the last Jedi (back when people were making fan fics of how it should have been)
Ian is by far my favorite actor in Star Wars. He totally owns Palpatine, an absolutely iconic character who even transcends the Star Wars franchise. He needs his own trilogy.

Palpatine (aka Darth Sidious) was one of the greatest villains in movie history, if Lucasfilm needs to bring him back to wrap up the story...then do it!

you’ve got to remember, that one laugh will sell millions and millions of dollars worth of tickets, they MAY have taken the easy/lazy route, though with all the publicity they’re giving Ian in the build up, I’m guessing he’ll play a reasonably big part.
According to Ian, he didn’t even come in to do the laugh it was taken from a previous recording that wasn’t used. We’ll see in what form he comes back in but it’s best not to overhype it

The prophecy was a bad prophecy. Anakin wasn't the hero, he was meant to bring balance to the force. The Jedi had become WAY too powerful and totally dominated the Sith. He helped the Emperor nearly wipe out the Jedi, bringing balance back.

I mean this shouldn't come as a surprise, the Original trilogy, Indiana Jones Trilogy, American Grafiti, the clone wars, even parts of the prequels have all had great direction, all thanks to Lucas. Sure he has made some mistakes (Anakin/Padme love story for example, some of that Dialogue was just BAD), but as a whole he is a great director.
I think his problem is as a screenwriter, not as a director or a creator...

Some may say they're just doing this to save the movie, that's probably the truth but at the same time I think it's a great move. Maybe they'll listen to some of the fan favourite theories that'll tie into why Palpatine is back.

Honestly I hope Palpatine is not brought back alive in Episode 9. Though I love Palpatine, his return would completely undermine Anakin’s sacrifice in Return of the Jedi.

@@LameSidious what I'm thinking is that Palpatine wasn't lying when he told Anakin that his master Plagueis had the ability to maintain life, but unlike Plagueis, Palpatine was so powerful with the force that when he learned it he could save even himself with that power, unlike Plagueis. But since Palpatine was thrown down the shaft by Vader so suddenly, he was late to use his power, and rather than keeping himself alive, he used his ability to trap himself in a half living half dead limbo, like the Nazgul from the Lord of the rings Rings. This way Ian is right that he's technically dead, but Palpatine is also alive in a sense which allows him to return in episode 9

Ian McDiarmid's return has definitely spurred my interest in Episode 9! I think he's most likely going to return in the form of flashbacks, but with an evil laugh like that, it could also mean that he's well and truly alive. It would really suck though, to bring him back only so he could be killed by Rey.

Can’t wait for all the theories! I love the idea of smoke being a dark side creature that has gone from body to body to find a stronger force user every time. It’s the exact idea I came up with for fun a year ago when thinking of my own version of the last Jedi (back when people were making fan fics of how it should have been)
Ian is by far my favorite actor in Star Wars. He totally owns Palpatine, an absolutely iconic character who even transcends the Star Wars franchise. He needs his own trilogy.
