Whenever I stir out of doors, I'll likewise be using the #39 (unless I re-install Lyft on my phone) -- but at least once I'll be trying the elaborate series of free shuttle buses the T has set up, just because it's historic! I don't want to look back and say "Yes, this unprecedented thing happened in Boston and I completely ignored it"
Thanks for the explanation of the All Star Squadron. I used to pick up old issues of the All Star Squadron from the 80s in the bargain bins in the early 90s. I enjoyed them, but I was confused about where these characters had come from and what the continuity was. The Blackmark comic also looks interesting
Steve, it’s great to see you and Frieda again, it made my Saturday so much happier! It wasn’t the same without you! Also, Black Snow seems like a harrowing but very is important read..
Yay! You are finally back, I hope you are ready to compensate us for the lack of videos in last two weeks. Please don't forget to update your community tab the next time you take a break, we worry about you and bean.
Well of course I appreciate that, but there are PLENTY of great BookTubers who have terrific channels even though they have the misfortune not to be ME!
I need zero justification for buying books. I may not have any more room in my house for them, but that doesn't stop me. Also, so glad to see your young face again!
Yes, the Essential Collections! I had a bunch of them, until I realized that I really did miss the WHOLE experience, color and all. The best possible whole experience (don't tell Michael K Vaughan I said this!) is those enormous hardcover omnibus editions, where you not only get color but even the original house-ads and letters pages - Every time a new one of those appears, I'm SO tempted!
@@saintdonoghue I have a number of the big hardcover Omnis and yes they are amazing. I really love the Epics too though. That's a nice readable format... I have a couple of the Essentials of Savage Sword of Conan and one of Tomb of Dracula. The B&W presentation is pretty good for those (especially SSoC of course) but I like having the color if that's how the comics were originally published.
Not sure if it's the same Olmsted but Frederick Law Olmsted designed multiple parks and nature reserves in my area of NY I also live on a street named after him. Random fact for the day Steve
Another who was big in his day, but is unknown now is Harold Robbins. My dad had several of his books. Nowhere to be seen now and in this case I think justly so ;-)
Dork that I am, I liked Young All-Stars even more than All-Star Squadron - particularly, of course, Arn Munro. I very much doubt there'll ever be a collected edition of those issues!
Well hello! Haven’t even watched your video yet, I’ve missed you and the Bean. It’s been withdrawals for our 28 year old, sexy influencer gone missing 😉 I just finished Quartershare as my entree into sci-fi, and catching up on your Star Trek videos… Now to see what you scored at the Brattle. ~ Mary
Marvel's version were called 'Essential' Spider-Man, Fantastic four, hulk etc. I collected all the spider-man ones back when I was a teen and loved them. Black and white makes it easy appreciate the artwork.
@@saintdonoghue Oddly enough they're all pretty expensive nowadays. I guess 'cause they're out of print. I think I've seen the Tomb of Dracula ones are very expensive! :)
I am surprised that you found the All-Star Squadron in a Showcase edition. Just a couple years ago, I finished filling out my collection of the complete run of All-Star Squadron by purchasing back issues. There were some good stories in that series.
Every time I'm tempted to go looking around on eBay or some such place for individual back issues, I think about the super-heavy longboxes I've lugged from house to house - that usually helps control the urge!
Oh no, it's definitely worth it - but you didn't read it the first time, when it was the talk of the reading world in the US? Never saw the TV mini-series?
Letters published! Well, yes ... that's the most I could possibly have had published, right? Unless I stooped to writing under a pseudonym, but who does that in this day and age?
Finding a free, perfect-sized bookcase on the sidewalk does seem to be the Universe's way of saying Go to The Brattle. For the human vote, there's a lot of messages here below (including mine) cheering you on.
In this video, you said that when Marvel started publishing the Essential collections, no other reprint volumes had been offered by Marvel. That isn’t true. At that point, they had already been publishing the hardcover Marvel Masterworks books for several years, and those were in color. But they were twice the price, for half as much material.
Hah! No, no - it wasn't "the Old Gay Men's Press"! It was the Gay Men's Press, which I called "old" because I think it's no longer around! Sorry about that! "The Old Gay Man's Press" would indeed be pretty niche marketing!
Steve! This made my day. You and Freida have been missed! Big hugs to you both.
Just in time for that upcoming BookTube event, Sarah & Steve Talk About Romances - er, I mean "Autumn Amour," that's what I meant!
@@saintdonoghue You were right the first time! We need to start planning all the live talks now :)
As Frodo said to Gandalf, “I’m glad you’re back!”
"A wizard is never late. He always arrives when he intends to". The Wizard of booktube is back
I'm thrilled to see that your back and posting your normal number of videos. All is right with the world again.
Steve, it was only until you disappeared for 11 days did I realize just how important you are in my daily life! Missed you! Thrilled you're back
The return of the king.

You’re back!!😀 I really missed seeing you and Frieda and listening to you each day. I hope you enjoyed your time away.
I very much did not enjoy my time away! I'd much rather be here!
I'm so glad to see you're back! My Friday plans have now changed to watch your new videos.
I'm SO glad you're back! Much love to you and Frieda both!

Pure joy watching you do a Brattle Book Haul.
Glad to have you back tonight Steve!
The best comeback! thanks for keeping it about books.
So very pleased to see you and Frieda. And Brattle book hauls are always the best. Thank you for brightening up my day.
Wonderful to see you back!!!!

Nice justifications for buying some books. I'm glad to see you're happy about your new book purchases. Peace.
Thank you Steve for your return
Welcome back. You were dearly missed.
Really happy to see you back. Much love to the Bean!
What a delight! Thank you Steve, it's fantastic to see you gracing the cybersphere, one Brattle haul at a time!
Ah, but what about the NEXT Brattle haul, when I have to get there by cattle trail and ox-cart?
@@saintdonoghue That sounds vlog worthy!
I have probably watched you do 100 Brattle Book Hauls but I must admit this one is especially pleasing. Glad to see you on booktube again.
You're back!👏
Thank goodness the Booktube universe is back in harmony. Good to see you back.
So glad you're back, Steve!

Thank goodness you're back!! Missed you both ❤️
So glad to see you and your beautiful Frieda back! I really love getting your opinion on books.

Steve, glad to see that you and the Bean are back! A good haul from the Brattle- the PD James novel looks quite good.
A new video! And a Brattle trip too! So glad you are back, Steve.

All -Star Squadron and its followup series, The Young All-Stars , are worth getting as back issues. Cheap too.

Yes, I meant they offered nothing else comparable - the Masterworks volumes were out of the price range of most readers back then, I think.
It is always far too easy to buy books.
"A Dangerous Thing" sounds, interesting? Haven't heard of The Old Gay Man's Press, that kinda pigeonholes them, don't it? LOL
