  • Make an auxiliary fence for your mitresaw to reduce tearout, gain material support, and generally be more awesome and improve your woodworking.
    You can find the plans for the mitre saw station at www.thewoodknig...
    You can find details on the specific tools I'm using for this build at kit.com/TheWoo...

    I need to do that with my saw (I have the same saw...) other than the things you mention (which is most mitre saws) I love mine... it was accurate right out of the box and is a work horse in my shop.

    Made the 3-minute version of this last week, just 6mm MDF bolted to the fence to get me out of a jam. I will refine it to be very similar to yours soon I think, looks great.

    Loving this video series Will be interested to see the dust hood. I've had a couple of cracks at making one for my saw, and haven't had a lot of luck. They just seemed to spew even more dust back at me (having no dust collector didn't help, and the shop vac is too shall to create any negative air pressure in the good).

      +Sean Hynes it does seem like a pretty hit and miss subject. I might even make a couple of prototypes and see which style shrouds work best for passive, with DC and/or just shopvac. Cover sheet of MDF should give me at least one prototype!

      There is so many videos on making a better shroud for this model saw, and I think I've watched them all! It's a great saw, unfortunately the dust collection is probably its biggest setback (that and the weight, if you need something mobile).

    How timely this video is. I've got a cheap miter saw that i just used the other day for the first time in quite a while. The fence on it is out of parallel pretty bad. This will help me correct that.

    I know John Peters swears by a sacrificial fence. It makes lining up cut a lot easier when you can reference off it (he makes a lot of frames so it's handy)

      Also helps stop the tiny little bits from being flung across the workshop or better yet, straight into your guts!

    Did you plan your extended measurement fence (for lack of better term) with the thickness of the aux fence in mind or is it set back 3/4”?

      Had same question, and if rails align to the zero clearance fence do you have a way to set them back when that fence is removed for bevel cuts etc?

    Did you make a fence for the right side of the station? Also if you did does it also have the fence track system

    Hi Paul , why is everyone telling me that if you cut all the way through the sacrificial fence it is useless ? But so many people are cutting all the way

    • @TheWoodKnight
      @TheWoodKnight  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know who is telling you that. It might be an issue if it wasn't' bolted on.

    Do you have a video on making the zero-clearance insert for the mitre saw? Thanks.

      Over the last few weeks I've had so many questions regarding what particular tools I use that this morning I've written up a FAQ.

    My saw (Genesis) does not have any holes to attach a sac fence. Not sure what to do. Any suggestions?

    • @TheWoodKnight
      @TheWoodKnight  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You might be able to remove the fence entirely and make your own, or just drill two holes on each side for a bolt to go through. It should just be aluminium, which is easy to drill.

    I think these are great, but as soon as you want to do an angled cut, you have to take it off, which is such a faff. I wish the manufacturers could come up with something that makes it easier.

    • @TheWoodKnight
      @TheWoodKnight  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Cheesegrater for a bevel, yes-ish. The top half of the fence unlocks and slides out of the way. For mitres, no, it'll just back bevel the fence

      This is more detailed and for those who haven't seen it before, given the channel has roughly doubled in size since then.

      Might be something on your end Alex, I've listened to this and had my 'editors' (wife and a friend) check it out on multiple devices (phone, TV/stereo, computer/headphones) and no issues here.

      I agree with alex pettigrew and there is no trouble on my end, either. The problem is that his voice trails-off (volume decreases) at the end of his sentences.
