    What a fantastic tip about priming the wicks, I was so frustrated wickless testing that I gave up on wood, now with this wonderful tip I can revisit them :) Thanks!
    Super excited for next weeks video, I've been kicking around making concrete vessels so I'm sure I'll learn a ton.

      The wax came out gorgeous! And yeah I was frustrated with wickless testing wooden wicks for months, until I realized what I was doing wrong lol. Hopefully you’ll have a better experience! Ohh and that’s awesome you make concrete vessels too, when I post the video you should definitely chime in with more tips and info. It feels like a lot of stuff is kept secret and it was hard to get started because of it 😂

    Loved your video! Another method of inserting the wick without having to separately prime is to wait for the bottom of the candle to harden, once it hardens then insert the wick. That way the wick cures and dries with the candle. I also dip the top of the wick in the wax before inserting. :)

      @@HawthornCompany Hi!!! I’m sorry. I’m still confused. :( So, you have candles poured with no wicks (gold vessels). Do you melt and add wicks? Sorry! I’m new to candles.

    • @HawthornCompany
      @HawthornCompany  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha no problem! We’ve all been there. I prime the wicks like in the video by heating wax onto the wicks and letting them dry out like on a paper towel, and once it’s dried I insert the wicks by sliding the wick into the candle jar. You don’t need to remelt the wax in the jar, you should be able to push the wick in. If the wick doesn’t work, and it burns funny, then you can remove the wick with pliers and re-insert a new wick. This keeps the cost of testing materials down.

    Do you think priming your wood wicks help with the hot throw?

    • @HawthornCompany
      @HawthornCompany  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes and no. It could give you a better burn rather than using dried wicks, which means the hot throw will be improved that way. But the bulk of your hot throw will be dependent on your fragrance oil (like only 40% of my oils are strong throwers, not all oils will throw well), percentage, technique, and cure time.

    Hi Jessica. I tested some of my soy bliss in my aura vessels and having a hard time wicking, the flames are high. I've tied .04 .75 -, .03. 75 CB and the .02 .75 whisper and booster.. I'm using WW Saffron & tabbaco.. I'm So lost.. any advice

    • @HawthornCompany
      @HawthornCompany  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I like .02 crackling booster .625 the best for mine, but my jars also get hotter than other jars since mine are made with a metal coating, so a smaller size wick is better for me. Keep in mind your oils play a HUGE roll on your flame, it could be your oil. I’m also experimenting with mixing in 5% SP487 to see if it helps with the harder to wick oils (like your tobacco one).
      But yeah I would stick to .02 wicks for sure, and for oils that drown I bump it to a .03 - but never use a .04
