    Great advice. You're one of my favorite people to listen to. This helped me out very much to understand about instruments need to back off from others to make your mix better and yet can be blended back later on. So much to learn about carving out a good mix. Thank you for help! 👍

    Long time viewer, first time commenting. Just wanted to take the time to say thank you. Your videos have helped provide insight and impart wisdom on those of us who are still amateurs in the field. There comes a time where it feels like the more you learn the less you know and the more daunting the process seems. Thank you for all of your help. I was wondering if you might do a video explaining in a bit better detail how one would reference mixes against commercial ones? What to pay attention to, certain nuances to pay attention to, illusions one might be wary of. I really appreciate your time effort. Thank you!
    Matt

    I have plug-in-itis. If a track doesn't sound right, I keep adding more plugins hoping it will eventually sound right, and my EQs look schitzo. I always drop in a reference track and A/B against my mix, but the reference track is already mastered. I end up having to master my mix on landr over and over, comparing the landr master to the reference. That's really tedious. Learning to mix via youtube is challenging. I wish landr would let us subscribers have a plug-in version of their mastering process. I don't mind it being an additional fee.

      There's a VST plugin that has a free version ($45 paid)called You Lean Loudness Meter 2. It has the reference levels for pretty much all common music, TV, Gaming, Film, TH-cam, Spotify, etc... and also gives the reference levels for different countries. Always remember less is more. Plugins also can change the mix levels and EQ. This can cause more level and balancing issue then results gotten. Also, these sites compress your signal for there reference level which can also change your mix results. Peace

    I do have one question! Do any of you use stereo spread plug ins? If so, where and why?

    • @Micas099
      @Micas099 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't. Many/most of the instruments already have some stereo component, so it's just a matter of choosing where to put them in the stereo field. Adding a spread plug-in on a track is just another effect, so if it sounds good to you, that's all that matters.

    I’ve been trying to figure this out. But basically, when I mix in my headphones (some consumer headphones) the mix sounds amazing but once I play it back in ANY OTHER systems it sounds like the track is being limited when the kick come in. Is the issue the headphones? Should I purchase mixing headphones ? I need help 😭🙏🏼

    In my opinion this isn‘t actually a ‚how to‘. It´s more like an metaphysical abstract. Interesting to watch but not very helpful when you want to fix a specific balancing issue.
