This is really amazing. It's also good to see that the boy knows to respect boundaries and doesn't go too far (e.g. jumping in with the ray). The ray flapping back to the boy was so fantastic. Thank you for sharing :)
Sting rays are members of the shark family but they're very friendly and playful in the water. I've dived with them and had great fun playing with them. They're wonderful creatures.
This is a wonderful video and I have shared. It is great to see the different connections we can make with other species on this planet. Thanks for sharing!
Deró Jr anthony kent Why do you say "luckily"? Stingrays are an extremely calm animal. Feeding them is so much fun. Just expect to lose some skin off of your knuckles if they get a little too enthusiastic.
anthony kent not lucky, these stingrays in La Gomera are used to people and love being petted and fed. This happens day in day out and nobody ever got attacked. Not "lucky".
I notice that rays in aquariums seem to like being touched and having their fins rubbed. I see a kind of avian intelligence in fish. Y'know how some birds are quite smart and can use tools, I think fish are kinda the same.

That is one happy stingray, He gets a petting and food, why on earth is everyone screaming luckily no one got hurt, this fish aint thinking hurt people, its thinking meal ticket here.
Takunna Mh...? Screaming? This is in a port. There's regular background noise from unrelated conversations, some people encouraging the child to feed the ray and other children excited about the thing :-)
Bill B Steve irwin was forcing the stingray, this is not the same thing as this child is feeding it. you never see Steve feeding the animals only grabbing them or poking them.
Takunna EXACTLY!! I watched that idiot go OUT OF HIS WAY to piss off a Komodo Dragon! Can you imagine!? His death was inevitable because of his behavior. It's just too bad that it was one of the most gentle animals in the sea. But with that Irwin idiot, it was only a matter of time. Jacques Cousteau's son said, "I love nature, but I don't touch it. That is why I am still alive." when told about Irwin. Glad I'm not the only one that hated that self-aggrandizing jerk!
I'm a stingray and I approve this behavior. We won't attack first, what happened with Steve was a big misunderstanding. The young human by the name of Joel is a great friend of one of our own. We're having Joel and his family over for dinner later this week. Hopefully things will turn out OK. While I am here, I will respond to any questions our fellow Earthlings will direct into our attention. I speak for the S.R.U. when I say this. The Sting-Ray Union is a peaceful directive and we've been thinking about how to get bonded with humans over the past few thousand of years.
Hey, thanks for reaching out. We were just discussing how arrogant humans can be sometimes. We were about to discontinue this service but then you came along. Anyways, I'll try my best to give you a coherent answer to your question. You must know by now that we are in no way aggressive creatures. We pretty much just want to eat and be left alone, however, some sharks have been known to attack us! That's why we have these things where we use them to defend off being eaten by a huge shark. We sometimes also use these in unfortunate situations. You see, we cannot afford to think about whether we're being attacked or not sometime. It's been known to happen that a human will step on our heads while walking trough the water, or exploring the deep seas. When this happens (you know, something STEPS on your head), our basic instinct is to just swim away, or in situations when we really fear death, we use our only defense mechanism and sting. Our intention has never been to kill anyone. Btw. could you tell the other humans to stop polluting the waters? I just got word 30 stingray families died of poisoning while asleep on the pacific coast. This is really unnecessary and terrifying for us. We can only imagine what kind of super awesome beneficial out-of-this world projects you guys have up there, to have to do this kind of thing. We, and all the other thousands of creatures in these waters, can only hope it'll be worth it.
How are you using TH-cam when you're a surface creature!? Hehe. How? Easy. There are some things we'd rather not reveal right of the bat. If your governments knew about these things, well, we probably wouldn't be here right now. Oh look, new Game of Thrones episode is out! Talk later!
+Edvin Lu I understand. You guys are GoT fans? Nice! I don't watch it and I still think it's the best show on television. As soon as I finish watching season one on DVD then i'll start watching. Catch ya later!
The ray seems pretty happy and content to me. I don't see why it would hurt the boy unless he started attacking it. Just because it's not a dog doesn't mean it's stupid or emotionless, people.
Anthropomorphism much? Given that this is the only interaction I've seen, I have to wonder how much recognition (if any) this animal even has for the boy. Would it react the same way if it were just any human performing the same actions? Would he be safe if he actually entered the water? The article I read (and which brought me here), suggested that the two had forged an "unlikely" bond, much as the one you'd expect to find between a boy and his dog. I saw nothing here to suggest that, at all! I may be wrong, of course, but if this video is the sole evidence, I'm not convinced!
+doctorxring You need to read and learn the difference about the MANTA RAY and the RAY, are two completely different animals, the one in this video is not a RAY (that killed Steve because he wanted to play with as a crocodile, opening his mouth) , THE ONE IN THIS VIDEO IS A MANTA RAY is a totally different animal, this are like dolphins, like to play with humans and are really fun, I play with this kind of MANTA RAY every time i can at Caribbean sea parks like Cancun mexico
Nice to see the water is clean and no one trying to kill it for its gallbladder or some such ridiculous nonsense like that :) Some people are good sometimes :)
So long as the kids not in the water I wouldn't worry. It looks like fun. If He fell in I would worry because in anyone got hit by the stinger by accident it can hurt/kill them. It got Steve irwin and a week later got another man who was actually swimming with the stingrays.
This is really amazing. It's also good to see that the boy knows to respect boundaries and doesn't go too far (e.g. jumping in with the ray). The ray flapping back to the boy was so fantastic. Thank you for sharing :)
That is soo cool. Even the smaller sting rays at aquariums love being fed by hand.
Sting rays are members of the shark family but they're very friendly and playful in the water. I've dived with them and had great fun playing with them. They're wonderful creatures.
The Australian Esteve Irwin dosen´t agree with you.
He put on sunblock but that never protected him from harmful rays.
Sadly, the famous Steve Irwin was killed by a Sting Ray...stabbed right into the heart.
Yes, but he was a total plonker and deserved it. He no doubt tortured it until it retaliated. Have you seen the way he treated animals?
ye steve irwin had no respect for animals. if you treat them like other people then they'l be friendly.
This is a wonderful video and I have shared. It is great to see the different connections we can make with other species on this planet. Thanks for sharing!
Love how he pulls up the nose and stuffs it in without flinching :D
My faith in humanity's restored. These boys have good souls
Ronald Dennis Isidro because they want to pet an animal? Then I guess almost all people have good souls, no?
Ronald Dennis Isidro same opinion dude...
I apologize guys, Im just saying that the boy have a heart of taking care of living things unlike other kids nowadays, thanks for the feedback ^__^
Beautiful video...thanks!
Incredible. I would love to befriend that amazing creature, too! Stingrays are one of my favorite sea dwellers. 😍
stingrays are same as dolphin and yes they get in kill mode when u hurt them, this video clearly shows their good behavior of how lovely they are.
Que animales tan hermosos e inteligentes!
It's nice to see people do respect other creatures. Kids usually torture animals. This is one lucky kid and a even more lucky manta.
This is NOT a manta ray. It is a stingray. Luckily no one was hurt.
Did the guy just pour a liquid in the basket into the water. It look like blood? I think it is probably blood to draw the stingray over for viewing.
anthony kent Yes. Luckily no one was hurt
Deró Jr anthony kent Why do you say "luckily"? Stingrays are an extremely calm animal. Feeding them is so much fun. Just expect to lose some skin off of your knuckles if they get a little too enthusiastic.
Hienh Saiyasith It didn't look like blood to me, it looked brown, and I don't think rays are attracted to blood
anthony kent not lucky, these stingrays in La Gomera are used to people and love being petted and fed. This happens day in day out and nobody ever got attacked. Not "lucky".
The kid is having a great time and learning too.
I notice that rays in aquariums seem to like being touched and having their fins rubbed. I see a kind of avian intelligence in fish. Y'know how some birds are quite smart and can use tools, I think fish are kinda the same.
the pan in/freeze frame/washout fade on the shrimp was priceless.
Lindos niños! Ojalá toda la Humanidad fuera así!
d lo mejor q he visto!!
That is a good young man. Tender with him. So sweet, coolest kid of the year award.

Thats one brave kid! :p

A marine biologist at an aquarium once told me that stingrays are the "cats of the sea" and that they love to be touched.
INCROYABLE !!!
Ayyyyyyy que ricas esas gambas DIOSSSSSSS !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Que bonita Manta+*
That is one happy stingray, He gets a petting and food, why on earth is everyone screaming luckily no one got hurt, this fish aint thinking hurt people, its thinking meal ticket here.

Takunna I meant the other commenter: anthony kent 4 months ago

Oh, I see. Yeah, people freaks out with this stuff, but probably because they've never put their feet near the water :P
Bill B Steve irwin was forcing the stingray, this is not the same thing as this child is feeding it. you never see Steve feeding the animals only grabbing them or poking them.

AMAZING!!!! KEEP IT UP YOUNG BOY!!

Bonitas imágenes.
Beautiful! It is a large Manta Ray and the kids are feeding it shrimp.
+Brian McComas this is not a manta, it's a giant sting ray
That thing is huge.......I'd be scared to go near it. Beautiful creature though.
Q legal!! Muito bom. :)

Steve Irwin would be proud of this boy. only love for these animals.

Beautiful & heartwarming! But watch out for the stinger or tail barb.
Wow, so cool. They are aware.
Really cool!
he's beautiful!
LOVE IT !
Wow, so cool!
:) things that make me smile

Thats no manta ray, it a giant freshwater stingray. Awesome vid though, i gave it a like.
2:28 "More Puny Human!!! MORE!!!"
