      BattlesBlades Yes. I really loved hearing the ABS master talking about blade geometry...especially since I am a big fan of drop point versus clip point. It is reassuring.

    This makes me even prouder to have had a Damascus knife made by Mr. Seward. In addition to being a fantastic smith, he’s also a true gentleman.

    After the bend Did the Knife return to it's original (straight) shape?

  • @thejkaz1

    So the blade doesn't have to come back to true after the bend test just not break?

    • @americanbladesmith
      @americanbladesmith  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Correct, and it is only allowed to crack less than 1/3 the blade width.

    What type of steel do people use for their performance test. I know it must be mono steel of some kind as apposed to a pattern weld.

    • @americanbladesmith
      @americanbladesmith  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, for Journeyman it must be a mono carbon steel. For Master is must be pattern welded. An applicant may use any carbon steel they wish but some are much better suited than others for the test. Essentially, the more basic the alloy, the better it will respond to the heat treatment to best prepare it for the test. Alloying, like chromium, will make the task more challenging. 1075 and 1084 are two steels that are very suitable for this application.
