the ‘racquet drop behind’ is the missing link. I tried it the other day & flushed the backhand quite a few times. I got the feeling if the take back wasn’t perfect but I could complete the racquet drop behind, the shot would still be satisfactory. Thanks my man, i’m moving towards building a backhand
Great explanation and demonstration. I might add it’s important to bend the knees and use the legs as well. Makes a huge difference in generating top spin.
Great video; I have always asked myself if the racket has to drop behind the body or on the side or in some intermediate position (something usually not heard or taught by coaches). You've clarified the right approach (plus the back hip driving). I've tried today and, with right technique, it makes a massive difference in power and spin. Many thanks.
Wish I saw this when first released, you missed an important component all pro one handers have including you, so important it probably comes in at number 2, you can add it anywhere but here it is: All pros insure their lead trail leg is pulled behind body, closing the stroke, Rog and Stan will jump to close the stance even with no time and jammed. Typically the rear leg is pulled behind, sometimes lead leg steps out, sometimes there's a foot lift to make it so Little known fact, two handers actually don't have to travel further for backhand, open stance is common, one handers must travel an extra half or full step to close stance Thanks for this video, it's improved my backhand, I haven't been getting racket behind bod, I'll pay attention to make that so Good stuff, thanks
Milan, first of all, one word: Credibility! You got it!!! You talk the talk and walk the walk. Great breakdown on the one handed backhand. I like the emphasis on step 3, dropping the racket behind you. Thanks, I knew had something missing. Great tip. Can you touch on the back foot follow through step? Sometimes I see it after the shot, sometimes not. Greatly appreciated. Stay healthy and God bless!
What I've taken away from this is not directly related to the backhand but to holding the racket ready, with a forehand grip, switching to backhand grip once you see the ball is coming on that side, then switch back to ready position with forehand grip. I tried it this morning and realised I had never paid attention to the grip I was using when in ready position and when I did that today I found I was a lot more consistent as I'm not great at feeling where my hands are. Funny that none of my coaches has ever given me advice on this.
Great video and self example of executing the shot!! I would add only 1 thing maybe that very crucial to keep the eye on the bal at the contact point)) All the be best Milan! Keep shooting great videos!!
Surprised how smooth your one hander is especially the complete stretch and rotation. Impressed and maybe you're right it could have been a beast if you went with it full time.
On backhand The Flare Finish is what I was taught to use. But I wasn't told about that little drop behind the back.. But I was coached everything else. But that is how I used to hit the backhands aggressive like what you're doing when doing the topspin drives but for the backhand slice drive I prefer to keep my hips open at the incoming ball as that allows me to slice drive the ball more lower and flatter through the court it puts more pace on the ball.
Step 3 (creating the lag for more power) is indeed the most difficult step for beginners and intermediate players. Especially when they are older and want to change their technique !!
Slight hip turn yes but definitely not too much hip and stay sideways head down at the contact point. Many rec players will turn their hips first before contact then swing through and it’s a mess.
When the hips are turning by step 3 you will have to let the racket go further behind the back by the low of inertia and the drop by gravity. Check Federer. His non dominant arm is not pushing or pulling the racket down. At that stage of the strike it is important to let the hitting arm go!
Only think I dont get is the racket drop. What are the mechanics of it? Do you let it drop naturally (doesnt seem to work), do you push it down with left hand? How to do it
I've always hit a 2-hand backhand and wonder if my game will improve if learn both, or if I should just stick to the 2 hander. Any tips for deciding what to focus on?
Biggest challenge for me and my one (right) handed backhand: return of kick serve in doubles, playing on the right (deuce) side. In single match I have at least room to play long and high through the middle, but in doubles with a good volley player at the net...:-(
I like your videos but can you stop moving when you are talking 😉🎾 It makes me crazy watching especially when I try to focus on the important aspects of movement.
the best one handed backhand tutorial I have watched so far.
1000%!
10,000%!

Amazing video and BTW....you are one of the best coaches in the entire TH-cam world......
Great explanation and demonstration. I might add it’s important to bend the knees and use the legs as well. Makes a huge difference in generating top spin.
Goed explanation and easy to remember on the court. Thank you Milan - hvala lepo
Very good explanation, thanks.
I think I just figured it out. Thank you so much! The hip was my problem, I will try it this week for sure.
Awesome. Thank you for the video!

Outstanding Amigo! Following you!
so I have a pretty good one hander but you are right about step 3 .... I can definitely improve by focusing on step 3 and also 5 THANKS FOR SHARING!

Great movie, thanks dude!
Excellent technical video, very helpful!!!
Odličan video, Milane. Velika ti hvala.
Ja igram sa jednom rukom backhand ali će mi ovi tvoji tip-ovi definitvno pomoći da ga unaprijedim.
Cool AV editing on this one, and as ever great tips.
This was a super great video thank you

Agree with this coach 💯

Very useful
Amazing video !!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Stefano, really glad you like it!
Bravo Milan, great video ! Can't wait to see next one 👊💪🇷🇸
Спасибо, отличный материал...
Hello! Nice video, can you please make a video about practicing against a wall?
What I've taken away from this is not directly related to the backhand but to holding the racket ready, with a forehand grip, switching to backhand grip once you see the ball is coming on that side, then switch back to ready position with forehand grip. Thanks Julian for sharing. Glad it helped!
You have had very bad coaches! The backhand starts with the proper grip as shown in this video!!!! I wonder how your coaches play the backhand!
focused on step 3 today and wow it feels really good - I found it especially improved my down the line backhand....
thx 👍🤙
Great video and self example of executing the shot!! I would add only 1 thing maybe that very crucial to keep the eye on the bal at the contact point)) All the be best Milan! Keep shooting great videos!!
At 6.13min Milan explains that you have to keep the head still on the contactpoint. In my opinion he means keeping the eyes on the ball
hello. can i see how to hit for high ball using one handed backhand
Great question, will try to make a video on it in future!
Nice
Surprised how smooth your one hander is especially the complete stretch and rotation. Impressed and maybe you're right it could have been a beast if you went with it full time.
Another great tut from the Coach!
Milan, could you reveal the technique how to kill short balls with high bounce (both FH and BH)? Thx!
Thanks, glad you like the video! Sure that's a great topic, will try to make it in near future!
On backhand The Flare Finish is what I was taught to use. But I wasn't told about that little drop behind the back.. But I was coached everything else. When i start play match i forget all tips 😅
Hi. Compliments for this beautiful lesson! Do you organise stage lessons in person? I’d like to join it.
Step 3 (creating the lag for more power) is indeed the most difficult step for beginners and intermediate players. Especially when they are older and want to change their technique !!
Great
Great video; I just have one question. How does the racquet drop come into play when you're trying to hit a high ball? Thanks
It depends how high the ball is bouncing! In some situations you have to choose a slice backhand!
actually 4 too now that I think of it..... we'll see how it goes tomorrow....
Excellent! what happen when the ball is high? Do You change the grip?
May i know your racquet and the strings and tension...?i really interested in blade v7 18 20 for tsitsipas one
At what level do you start producing the popping sound that you hear when advance players are hitting?
Slight hip turn yes but definitely not too much hip and stay sideways head down at the contact point. Many rec players will turn their hips first before contact then swing through and it’s a mess.
Thank you for the informative video. My question is about step 3. Are you letting the racquet drop naturally or do you pull it down?
Thanks Robert, you should control that drop with your non dominant arm but also help it with the hip turn.
@@tenfitmentennisimpulse Thank you very much! Yesterday I became a patreon subscriber because of your videos. Wish you all the best!!

Stay with your 2-hander. You can also create the lag with your 2 ander. Step 3 is exactly the same!

Your pro? At what rank? Top 100?top 50?
Excellent video. However you should erase the music to be able to easely listen your voice.
If only you were 10 years younger and could have gotten some Sampras footage! 🤔 Of course then cell phone cameras would have also been made earlier…
I think on step 4 , you are overrotating too much yourself. But overall fantastic video
I like your videos but can you stop moving when you are talking 😉🎾 It makes me crazy watching especially when I try to focus on the important aspects of movement.
