    can you take files from the sd card and put it on a usb hard drive with this device?

    Can ES File Explorer access the files on the RAVPower?
    I may be completely wrong, so say my phone connects to it, does that mean I can't access my original home WIFI? or does it piggy back off the existing one?

      sk s LOL! That would be an awkward return, explaining why the box has a dent in it.

    I need to use my RAVPOWER with my iPad 2 and a Surface 3 Pro. I have a 2Tb external HD and SM cards with my data. Is it necessary a special format? Now I can not see images but a single icon in all of them, nor I can see MP4 or read my files. Can access them but not see its content.

    Im getting this for a friend (iphone 5s 8gb) and he has no space for anything. My question is: will he be able to play music on it without going to the files and pull up a song? He will have to connect to it obviously, but it seems tedious to go to the file for each song. Also Will he be able to store apps on it?

    Question: would like to pull SD cards from my game cameras while in the field, then upload the photos quickly to my 64g iphone6 for viewing, and mass deleting later from the phone. Could be a few photos, or 100-200 at a time. Is this easily do-able with this RAVPower RP-WD01 Wireless Filehub ? Does/can it put them in the phone's native "photos" section where I can view them using the "photos" native app?
    I can easily do this now with my Ipad Air and the Apple lightning camera connection kit. But that doesn't work on iphones. (to my knowledge).

    • @SomeGadgetGuy

      JuanBagnell Excellent review Juan. One aspect you didn't allude to however was whether the hub manager allows for users to select which app. to open and consume their content?

    • @SomeGadgetGuy
      @SomeGadgetGuy  11 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ophelia I had a hard time working that conversation into my review. You're absolutely right, but with the amount of time I could spend using it, and producing a video, it did become a challenge trying to play with the various apps which MIGHT work well. I sort of just took RAVPower at their word that the app they recommended would be the preferred experience, and set up my phone to work with that app. For future reviews I'll try and incorporate a little more discussion of the phone ecosystem and how selecting those defaults can impact a customer's usage.

    does the tablet and rav need a wifi network signal to connect or does it just use built in wifi to connect both devices like bluetooth?

    • @SomeGadgetGuy
      @SomeGadgetGuy  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      It only needs another network if you want to share a data connection. If you ONLY want to share files, the RAV connects directly to the phone or tablet.

    • @TssocShifty

    do you recommend this over the kingston mobilelite wireless?? and also does this and also the kingston support avi. files??
    P.S looking for the best to power sd up to 64 gb, hdd 2tb (both asked and they say support)

    • @SomeGadgetGuy
      @SomeGadgetGuy  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I like the software and app better on the Kingston, but the battery is much larger on the RAV. You'll need to decide if you want longer run time or a slightly nicer software experience.
      As for file support, these units don't care what file's you store on them, but if your phone or tablet doesn't support .avi, then they still wont be able to play them. Test the file on your phone first. If it plays when it's stored on the phone, it'll play when it's stored on a wireless card reader.

      JuanBagnell forgot to ask, what is the comparison between the speed?? like your download speed for this is average 15-17mbps, upload 3-5mbps?? how about the kingston?

    • @SomeGadgetGuy
      @SomeGadgetGuy  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't actually tried measuring that precisely.It was fast enough to stream two 10Mbps HD video streams at the same time, but it struggled to stream one raw blu-ray rip.

    Can I connect my 1TB or 2TB Western Digital portable hard drive to Ravpower and stream contents from it to my tablet/smartphone? Can I do the same with Kingston device also?

    • @SomeGadgetGuy
      @SomeGadgetGuy  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have connected bus powered drives to both of these. They'll drain the battery much faster, and they might not run stable as they weren't really designed to power spinning discs.

    • @SrikanthNalla17
      @SrikanthNalla17 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      JuanBagnell www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=470#Tab3 I thought that these portable hard drives were not bus powered.

    Question: I drive around with a D Turbo feeding an internet signal to a laptop, an itouch, and a an ICON. I have a GN4 feeding music via BT and Transcend OTG connector that's housing a 256GB SD card filled with tunes to the head unit. Will this device allow me to create the NAS /hub/music server that I'd like to feed to the head unit with my entire music collection of 850GB on a USB Hard drive connected to the laptop or to this device itself -using the only internet I have either through the Turbo or the GN4?

    • @SomeGadgetGuy
      @SomeGadgetGuy  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      markreif1 I honestly don't know. That set up might be a bit too challenging for a device which is designed to feed five individual devices directly. I'm not saying it wont work, just I'm not sure how it would work.

    • @markreif1
      @markreif1 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      JuanBagnell so it might worth a shot.... i don't see in any of the reviews of this or the 2nd iteration of this unit that is now out that you need a home based internet connection to create the hub....

    • @markreif1

    2 THINGS:
    1. As a photographer I'm just looking to transfer files from my SD card to a USB drive. I read somewhere that the mobilelite will only transfer JPEG files not RAW files, is that true?
    2. Can the either device transfer files directly from the SD drive to the USB drive?

      If you're handy with running scripts, you can do it with this as this thing runs a lightweight version of Linux.
      I use it to trigger scripts via the iPhone to copy an entire memory card into a USB hard drive, or copy just the ones I've flagged as 'protected' via my camera.

      +AnsiTiv Will it handle .raw files is the question. I understand it will transfer .jpeg picture files and other type files such as .doc, .xls, etc..... Does anyone have any experience with this device being able to transfer .raw files. Some of these device will not transfer .raw files.....RAW files are used by many professional photographers and enthuses because they are"more editable".

    • @JCPicache

    I bought the wd02 because I wanted to be able to get my pictures from my camera to my ipad (turns out I brought the wrong one since it only takes the MiniSD card (like from my phone). I got it hooked up to my ipad and it asked for access to my ipad photos and I said no (because I am old and scared sometimes)...anyway, how can I undo that, since access is denied now? Also (old dog question) why use a mobile hotspot if there is already wifi available?

    • @SomeGadgetGuy
      @SomeGadgetGuy  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I honestly don't know as I haven't used this a lot with an iPad, but I would imagine that uninstalling the app and reinstalling might clear that permission?
      The ability to do an internet pass through is also in the "settings" menu of the app. Connect ipad to WD02, then use the app to scan for a wifi hotspot, then the Rav should connect to that and share the internet access with the ipad connected.

    Do you need to be on a Wi-Fi network to work?

    • @SomeGadgetGuy
      @SomeGadgetGuy  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To share files no. It creates it's own network for file transfers. Now your phone or tablet can only connect to one WiFi signal though, so what you can do is connect the RAV to another data network, and then the RAV will share that data with any device connected for file transfers. It works pretty well too, you don't lose too much bandwidth.

      JuanBagnell Ok thanks, but the RavPower dont need to be connected to an internet (wifi) connection??

    • @SomeGadgetGuy
      @SomeGadgetGuy  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope. It makes its own wifi network.
      So you want to look at it like this.
      RavPower [WiFi] Phone
      You're phone can only connect to one WiFi signal, so when it's connected to the RavPower it can see files on the RavPower, but you're phone can not surf the web. However if you connect the RavPower to ANOTHER hotspot so you get:
      Router [WiFi] RavPower [WiFi] Phone
      THEN the RavPower can share the internet connection from the router so your phone can still get online. It acts like a wireless extender or mirror.
      If you only need to access the files on the RavPower however, you don't need ANY other equipment. RavPower and Phone connect directly.

    Anything for up to 8 users??
    Nice review, and thank you.
    Im looking for something similar to this but it needs to be able to wirelessly stream at least 8 different movies to 8 different users from an inserted flash drive or card loaded with a library of movies.
    I transport up to 8 passengers on long trips.in a mini bus and I would like them to be able to view a movie or two on the journey, using their smartphones or tablets, but for all of them to be able to individually choose any movie they want.
    Any ideas please?
    Many thanks
    Mike

      Sorry bud. I don't know of any consumer portable device that can handle that many. Even portable wifi/mifi units tend to support fewer users than what you need.

      You should be able to. I plugged in a 500GB portable bus powered drive and it worked. I think it'll drain the battery faster, and it might not be as stable (takes drives longer to access info, the app might time out occasionally).

    • @SomeGadgetGuy
      @SomeGadgetGuy  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not connected to a 3G or 4G signal. It can connect to other Wifi to share the wifi though. If you got to a coffee shop for example, if you have to pay for the wifi there, then you'll need to pay to connect this RAV. Otherwise the files it shares over wifi are free for you to use.

      Cool, is the connection and HD streaming reliable? Is the software good? Is there a HD size limit? I want to use it with a 3TB+ HD. It's between this and the Hootoo - the kingston mobilelite has a 2TB drive limit.

    • @gerardoq1981
      @gerardoq1981 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pete Horam I use mine with a 1TB HD, and works great. The connection is reliable, but struggles a bit with videos above 4GB. The uses of the device is exponential. I use at the University as a wireless USB and router because the wifi connection is not great in my office, but I have an ethernet connection. Also, there is a newer version of this to consider of you have not bought it yet.

    Hi...I just received this device as a gift and the hub features are great ( now Im able to reach the info on my flash memory using my tablet and to play videos/movies storaged on a sd card saving space in my devices, also it works pretty good as a power bank to my celphone) but I don´t get why I would use this device as a bridge between my router and my tablet or celphone if the signal is going to be cut to like 50%...The video is pretty good, actually was a lot most useful than the info that I got from the manufacture´s website...but still...My husband gave me this thinking that it will improve the wifi signal in our bedroom (the router is far away on the livingroom) but seems like that is not quite the proper use for it...hope somebody can help me to use this thing up to its 100% utility, thanks in advance!

      +Suhail Suárez All wireless repeaters will cut bandwidth in half. It essentially doubles the amount of time it actually takes to send a signal from the main router to the end user device. This product really isn't designed to be used as a signal range extender, more as a wireless file storage solution.

      +JuanBagnell You confuse bandwidth with latency. The bandwidth can actually raise with a wifi repeater compared to a setup without a repeater.

    This is a POS if you try to use it with Apple products. I've had it for months - looking at it and wondering if I could figure out how to get it to work. Downloaded software, connected it to the iMac (which does not recognize the device) and finally realized that this is garbage. For $30, what do you expect. I will now save myself any further frustration by throwing it in the garbage. Probably not supposed to throw electronic devices in the garbage, but it appears to me quite inert.
