My 5 Year Ampuversary Message

  • Hello Friends!
5 Years an amputee as of April 2. That means I have had my TH-cam channel for just about 5 years! Thank you for everyone who has followed along the way. I do read all your comments - even when I take a break from making videos. And I love knowing that I am helping others out like they have helped me.
My 5 year message is a little bit somber, but I think that's normal when you reflect on 5 years ago and all the things I have accomplished in that time. But I do remember how scared and hopeless I felt during limb salvage. I remember every hospital stay. And I am now on the other side and can tell you how it feels.
Thank you again to all of you who watch. You motivate me to try to do good in the world, no matter how small.
    Have a great weekend :)

I'm coming up on my 5 month anniversary of my amputation. Mine is above the knee. It's been a hard process but thanks to people like you and footless Jo, I see what can be done and what I want to do. Thank you for keeping my spirits up and keeping me going.

About two weeks away from my 3 Year Ampuversary (AKA). Two most important things you said - "Celebrate the small victories", and always look back on how far you've come. Any amputee who begins to feel discouraged about what may seem like a lack of progress, or feeling hopeless need only thing back to the day after their amputation, and what they could and couldn't do. In my case, I couldn't lift either hand off the bed and could only communicate by blinking my eyes. After a year I had a prosthesis, was driving again, and back to a full-time job. Even now there are those tough days... but you can't argue with small victories that accumulate over and over, and get you where you surprise yourself and anyone around you. Thanks for continuing to be real, Annika.

You were that person to me when I was looking for all the answers and the validation that I was making the right decision, and again you are there when I needed to hear the right things again. I’m 5 months post right BKA and I’m struggling with my prosthesis fitting right and I’ve been very down thinking it might not be for me so I need to hear things get better. Thank you so much for posting this it came at the right time. Your amazing 😊

my adopted Sister Suzan is an left leg above the knee, amputee from Oklahoma, I know you don't know her and it may not mean much but, I wanted to let you know that your vids have helped me and my mom, to understand things about it more, Suzan had her amputation on December-13-2022, after a bad car wreck. she sent us some of your video's about like how the sockets are held in place and different terms and such while she was in the hospital. because of your video's we're better able to understand Suzan's... situation and what she's been going through and I wanted to say thank you for that! we are grateful to you for that.

The fact that you body changed is normal. How it changed is not common, but we all change over time. I'm glad you got your chance to change, and to shine... and to share parts of life with all of us.
Glad you are out there. And glad you are sharing your story, experiences, and triumphs. And Cat. And even when you share the downsides.

I am a single below the knee amputee, when does the pain stop??????? It's been 3-4 weeks now, can't sleep at night. What do you guys do?? I'm excited because there is such a strong community out there and my life is moving forward, my first steps will be in June sometime, can't wait!! Butthe phantom pain is overwhelming.

In sports/activities that you did before amputation, do you find them easier or less painful post-amputation? After numerous surgical attempts to salvage my right foot/ankle, the pain isn't nearly as vicious, but my mobility still sucks. I want to hike again, play with my grandchildren again without being afraid I'm going to fall. Is amputation worth it under those circumstances?

Good Video. At the moment I'm dealing with serious leg things myself, where I'm trying to convince people including even medical professionals it's as bad as I claim it is. You and Other Amputee Influencers have helped me get through this still ongoing ordeal!
