My wife is officially borderline obsessed with catching brown trout right now, so I'm an upper midwestern bass/pike angler trying to learn. Since they're not native to my drainage and are stocked in select areas I have to watch a bunch of western anglers fishing and talking to learn. It's now dawned on me that acreage of water, depth of water, and topography in general are very different. 😂 Either way, this type of stuff is greatly helpful to a guy like me. Thanks.
I now have 3 vintage Fenwick glass rods, line, flies and everything else that has been added to other methods of catching fish stacking up in my garage. Thank you for the last keys to victory on our local lakes as well as my new way of fishing trout and LM bass. Keep up the great content!!
OK, I give up, what in the world is a "toolie", "toole", tooele" I have no idea how to spell it but Phil sure talked about it enough in the video. Do you perchance have a scientific name for it so I can find out what it look like. Inquiring mind want to know.
Good question, it is essentially the tall grasses/bullrushes along the side of the lake. The trout go into these tall weeds (they extend down up to 4-5 feet) to chase baitfish.
Nice one guys, couple of great rainbows there!

Great video. Full of helpful information on how and what to use in the fall for a fun and great time fly fishing. Best Regards from West Virginia, Ken
Glad it was helpful!
Having just returned from a monumentally unsuccessful lake fishing trip, maybe this will help for the future!
Unsuccessful at catching fish. I spent half a week on a lake. It was lovely. Not complaining.
