My hero academia was my very first at a lot of things. It was the very first anime I watched start to finish, and then when season 4 came out it was the first time watching something week to week. Then I found my hero academia vigilantes which is a spin-off manga, and that’s as officially my first time reading manga.
Then i went back and read all of my hero academia’s manga on the Shonen jump app, and it’s the first manga I caught up on and started reading as new chapters came out.
I can understand why people think mha isn’t as great as the hype, but I just love it. My girlfriend rn wanted to get into anime so I told her to watch mha and now she’s hooked lmao. She’s watching fullmetal alchemist, one punch man, attack on Titan. All because of that one series.
Mha is truly this generations equivalent of dragon ball in terms of introducing anime to newcomers

    • @CaptainRAIAN
      @CaptainRAIAN  3 ปีที่แล้ว +18

I can definitely see that. That fandom and hype for mha was a big turn off for me at first. But after experiencing mha for myself, I think it's a really great series!

My first experience with manga was in my junior of high school, which was some time around 2013. I had read some of Pokemon Adventures and very little of Gantz. I didn't get into manga until this year. The pandemic was also my reason to give manga a try again. First started collecting DVDs/Blurays, but stopped to focus on manga. First series I've bought was Goodnight Punpun and have a list of others I plan to purchase in the near future.

I first read Blame! 2 Years ago in digital version. I absolutely fell in love with it and immediatelly started to save money for the master edition and now I have all the volumes. But I just can't find any new saga or story that amazes me more than Blame. I love its gargantuan universe, so dark, different and distant, and the way the story invites you to fill the gaps with your own ideas, even if you read the prequel and sequel (or also Net Sphere Engineer). Everything is so simple and at the same time extremelly deep and complex. Its just perfection for me

That was the time where the pandemic really hit and my school shut down. I had a lot more free time. Earlier in like december, I caught up to the AoT manga from where the anime left off. I absolutely loved the AoT and so I wanted to see the entire story. MAN I loved it. I read it through the scans back then and in march I got it in the physical format. I binge read it. As someone who watched anything on Toonami, Adult Swim, or Meguzi as a kid, the prospect of owning and reading a physical version of those anime stories was pretty exciting. It was One Piece and Naruto in particular that I ended up getting into because of their more authentic and less-censored manga versions.
The fact that the art was superior and I could learn how to draw from the manga was integral to me getting into art too.

I’m currently 14 and I first went to a library when I was about 7 (not my first time at a library) but I saw Pokémon because after the time I was a fan of Pokémon *no longer* but I read the backwards book and I was like this is probobly like a 2 chapter book and you read from bavk to front. About 7 years later (3 months ago roughly) I purchased toilet bound hanako kun because I was a HUGE fave of anime so I read that manga and started to purchase more. I purchased the whole series of tbhk and I wasted like all my money (almost all) so i finished, I’m waiting for vol 15 but anyway I buy wild act (romance novel) from half priced books and I was really speeding through these mangas and so I bought one punch man, blame, psycho 100 and finished and I just started to collect and read and I would finish like 4 books a day. And it all started from this amazing TH-camr, you were the one who started my journey.

I know I'm late but I'll share my manga collecting story anyways. Somewhat similar to yours yet a little different. The first manga I ever read was "Is It Wrong To Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?" At my school library. I loved the format and art and the difference between it and comics, tho I only read about 30 pages and put it back on the shelves. Around this time (2016-2017) my favorite anime out of the four or five I've seen was "Nanatsu no Taizai" or "Seven Deadly Sins". I don't know what it was, but it hooked me on the first season and I loved it. I expressed this love towards that series to my mom and for my birthday she bought me volume 1 of Seven Deadly Sins. It was the only manga I had for 2 years and believe me when I say I read that first volume so many damn times, comparing it to the anime and watching along. I eventually got back into buying manga early last year in February 2021. I picked up an actual manga HAUL with Land of the Lustrous 1-4, JoJo volume 1 and the Three Days of Happiness novel. All of these were read super quickly and I wanted more. So I spent all the saved up money I had for spending on manga, growing my collection to it's current count of 87 volumes. One of those volumes being the first ever manga I've received of Seven Deadly Sins in all of its wrinkled glory

That sat on my shelf for years until I got into jojo’s bizarre adventure, I was watching through the anime for the first time and I saw the volume that was where I was up to so I picked it up and read it, and then immediately went back and bought all of phantom blood, battle tendency and so on, my collecting really took off after that
I saw that some of my favourite anime had manga box sets so I scooped them up, and a year later I’m sitting close to about 457 volumes in total and haven’t looked back since

Read an article around the time of the Olympics about how manga sales have gone through the roof lately and how the Olympics being in Japan was likely to add further fuel to that. So I decided to go see what all the fuss was about. Picked up 5-6 volumes at Barnes and Noble with no idea what I was doing--just grabbed stuff off the shelf that looked cool. Most of it was pretty meh, but Vinland Saga is the one that hooked me. I've got about 60 volumes of manga and growing now.

The first manga I have ever bought (I think it was around 2016/17?) was Kill la Kill and I didn't enjoy it that much but it was interesting the way how you read manga, but a year ago I really got into Kimetsu no Yaiba and read the story three times because I really liked it, the characters, the fights and everything 😆😆 I read them from scan and later on I got to know that KNY was being published in my country! So in order to support the author I decided to buy all the volumes available. Now while I am waiting for KNY volumes I decided to give it a shot to this hobby (although is pretty expensive) and bought Spy X Family, the way of the househusband, JJK and the last two volumes of Tokyo Ghoul:Re since I really loved the end 😆

Dragon Ball Z was my very first manga, after a while I ended up completing the set. Then Rurouni Kenshin, also completed. At first I didn’t care about completing manga sets, so after I bought the 2nd volume for Dragon Ball Z, that’s when I knew that I got hooked. I looked everywhere online to get the individual volumes whenever Amazon or eBay didn’t have them. So worth it. I’m currently working on getting Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Super, Fist of the North Star, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, Toriko, Berserk, and Elfen Leid completed. I’m also about to get into Hellsing, Blade of the Immortal, Blame!, and Knights of Sidonia 😅 wish me luck!!

I bought my first manga last month, which was Goodnight Punpun. Just 1 volume. Fast forward to this week, and I've spent almost $1000 on a bunch of manga.. (Vagabond, Blade of the Immortal, Dorohedoro, A Silent Voice, etc.). No regrets, but my wallet is crying :'(

Check out Cirque du Freak (The Saga of Darren Shan). It's a great manga adaptation of an Irish dark adventure fantasy series. It just started getting omnibus releases.
    I also highly recommend:
    Hunter x Hunter
    Soul Eater
    Magi
    Made in Abyss
    Ultraman
    Remina
    Prison School
Lindbergh (this might be super hard to find, not sure)

I read manga online for ages and watched a bunch of manga collection/haul videos, but my favorite series of all time (Yona of the dawn) got me wondering if I could purchase any volumes to support the author. Weirdly enough though, I didn´t buy Yona of the dawn first, since I was interested in a lot of series that I hadn´t read online and didn´t have anime adaptations. My first haul I believe consisted of The girl from the other side by Nagabe, and some Makoto Shinkai one-shots!

My 1st manga was Battle Royale back in '04 or '05. I didn't buy anymore until Jan '21. I put a restriction on myself to not buy anything that has an anime. Battle Royale has a live action movie I believe Netflix has it (plus a sequel) but it doesn't hold a candle to the manga. I love the Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter movies, but I kept falling asleep trying to read them. Battle Royale recommended!

Basically I watched the anime of Rosario vampire and felt so disappointed how it ended and i found out there is a manga for it so I picked it and I found the manga was better then the anime. I picked up death note as I heard about it and it being a good one for new readers of manga. Now I have round 400 volumes. That wasn't my first experience with manga but first time reading it, I worked temp at Amazon and saw one and just thought it was misprint as it was backwards to be told it was meant to be like that I really don't remember what it was though unfortunately

In my case I started reading manga when I was very little so I can't remember exactly what series it was... Most likely Slam Dunk if my memory isn't wrong! BUT! The Manga that got me into collecting was Dragon Ball Super back in 2018 though, as I thought I could actually get all the volumes and be up to date, compared to regular Dragon Ball which felt too long and expensive to collect all the volumes. So yeah, today I'm at over 100 volumes of many different series! Funny thing is I stopped buying DBS manga at volume 12 although it's still ongoing lol it got stale after a while

So I always watched anime, like since I was a kid. Watched anything I could, When I went to basic training I wanted to watch anime but couldn’t. So I bought a dragon ball manga, since it was my favorite since childhood and then attack on Titian. But never read attack on Titian lol, not a year ago maybe year and a half. One of my favorite Instagram collectors kept saying how she loved berserk, sounded like my kind of thing so I watched the 1997 anime. Had to know more so I bought 3 deluxe editions. Fell in love with berserk, so I got all the manga. After that it was one after another, got Vinland saga, goblin slayer, shaman king ect lol.

My first anime and manga was blue exorcist and it was pretty recent.
I watched the anime like 2 years ago on 3 or 4 of my friend's recomendation (who have basicly watched all the anime that exists)
I liked it but then forgot about it completely (i also watched avatar too)
    But then i stopped.
Then this year in the library, my friend pointed out the blue exorcist manga to me and i read it cuz why not.
I then got obsessed with it and binged all the manga and rewatched the anime. I even got volume 26 after reading it in the library cuz i really liked it.
And now i am spiralling into an anime and manga rabit hole.
    Help...
My favorite thing that i have watched are:
Blue exorcist, the promised neverland, demon slayer, a silent voice and love is war
Also i was thinking of getting a job before cuz earning my own money seemed pretty neat but now i really want to just so i can buy the demon slayer box set.
