Marottichal, a small hamlet in Kerala's Thrissur district, is the first chess village in India. Once, this land was infamous for illicit liquor brewing and alcohol addiction, but Chess transformed their lives. Now more than 80% of people here play chess. The ancient game of strategy has gone through several changes, with floods and the COVID-19 pandemic affecting the lives of the villagers. But the love for the game still remains strong here.
