- The South African Banknotes That Tell A Story - Last year, South Africa released a series of banknotes commemorating the 100th Anniversary of Nelson Mandela's birth. They are a series unlike any other - depicting the story of his and the country's struggle against Apartheid.

Another fact you have to consider about these banknotes is that they're accepted in Swaziland Lesotho & Namibia because those three countries also uses South African rand in addition to their National currencies which are pegged to the South African rand at par.

This is just so well put together! It's fascinating listening to Mandela's srory told through bank notes. Also, we (South Africa) just celebrated our 25th birthday this weekend, so this video is out at just the right time!

I have a special love for history and how things that seem so "ridiculous" or irrational to me, such as racism or Mandela being in prison for so long for such a cause happened not so long ago, so this vid hit something special in me, i love the way you have of telling stories Chris!

Do it anyway! What makes TH-cam really interesting is how different channels can make a video about the same topic in different and unique ways - so yeah, you should totally do it anyway :) And I know you're a fan of coins too, you should try and work those in :D

Bank notes aren't something I'd go and learn about on my own, but I like learning new stuff and really enjoy people unapologetically geeking out about the stuff they're interested in. These videos are great.

I am south African and have done history. I have learned about alot of things but even some things like how he descised himself I did not know. Guess they don't teach you every thing in history. Loved this video and seeing our country get acknowledged

The cool thing is if you put one end of the notes to the other (making a cylinder) the animals and the stripes(ment to help blind people) line up

The sheep on the R10 is also a call back to the older R10 note which features a Rhino on the face and sheep and mining on the reverse
