  • The results are in! After installing the OpenFlash Performance header I headed to the dyno to see the results. Making a peak of 206WHP and 163TQ it also made significant gains in the midrange eliminating the infamous torque dip.

    It's nice the header helped out the torque dip. Should come in handy when autocrossing and in a slower 2nd gear corner. Thanks for keeping the series moving along!

    Btw. When running on e85, i think you need to change your engine oil more frequently. Anyway great numbers bro. Im also an OFT e85 user on 13 brz. The engine revs more freely on e85. Its like it was made for it.

    • @TheDriversPerspective
      @TheDriversPerspective  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This motor comes ALIVE with E85, it's depressing when I have to run pump gas. I've been running E85 in my other track car for years and you absolutely need to change the oil more frequently. I usually cut the factory recommended intervals in half for track cars, for a street car reducing intervals by 30% should be enough.

    Good Sound but I am disappointed with lack of torque dip being filled. Solid UEL headers normally do this, but you are running E85. I am guessing on 91/93 the difference in the dip might have been bigger.

    • @TheDriversPerspective
      @TheDriversPerspective  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The difference is much less pronounced with the 4.0 tune with and without the header running E85. It is a HUGE difference from the stock header, E85 and the 3.02 tune.

    Why the openflash header vs tomei or JDL? Seems like the ofh is the best bang for the buck but the tomei and JDLs offer slightly more "performance" according to the dynos I've seen posted.

      @TheDriversPerspective  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I was working with OpenFlash to help test some things with the 2017+ motor and they had a OFH v3 available for me to use for the right price. JDL and Tomei make great stuff, I do not think the extra $$$ for an ACE header is really worth it. Three times the cost for not much of a gain.

    I'm new to the upgrade world, but am planning to do some things with a similar mentality as your build. On the header you just ran...is that legal in CA and/or do you have any concerns about that? I'm also really interested in what tires you choose...I have the TRD wheels as well.

    • @TheDriversPerspective
      @TheDriversPerspective  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Tires depend on intended use, I actually think the factory Michelin tires are a blast. When those wear out on my TRD wheels I'll probably replace them with the Continental Extreme Contract Sport tire in the same. My track wheels use 245/40/17 Bridgestone RE-71r tires, they are horrible on the road - lots of noise. As far as the header, it'll need to get removed at a certain time of year but I keep the exhaust quiet and retain the factory front pipe. :-)

    It might have been a poor choice of header to remove the 'dip'. Aren't equal length headers better for that objective? Did the car get a 'tune' before the dyno? I'm looking for the best header under a grand, strictly to remove that dip, possibly without adding a new exhaust, still an option or will it be pointless without the cat-back? OFT comes with a few tunes, but only 1 is E85 (the one he used). So stock header, running E85 with OFT, you use Stage 2+. Then this vid is on the header, not the tune. By changing header and tune, we wouldn't know what just the header is worth. Keeping tune the same both times shows us what one change is worth.

    When a preformance shop does a stage 1 tune on the car what is a reasonable price for the tune?

    • @TheDriversPerspective
      @TheDriversPerspective  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stage tunes are just a naming scheme aftermarket companies came up with. For a BRZ or 86 a Stage 1 from OpenFlash is just a slight retune on the stock map with a factory header. If you are in the market for that, spend $499 on an OpenFlash tablet and you can install that map in about 5 minutes yourself in your driveway.

    • @TheDriversPerspective
      @TheDriversPerspective  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Skip the cold air intake, it is worthless on this car. Factory air box design is so complicated that the aftermarket is really going to struggle to make it better. I went back to a stock air box after having issues with Perrin intake. Just buy an OpenFlash tablet and do it yourself, you can reflash to stock at any time with the tablet as it holds your stock tuning file.
      I have a few videos on how to flash the car, it is super easy to do!

      Kris McKinney sell the intake or return it. The fuel trims will be out of spec with off the shelf tunes, may cause knock and poor throttle response. Used tablet is a good value if you know it’s legit.

      The end results are amazing compared to stock! I think it is interesting how close the curve with the 2017+ engine running just an E85 tune is.

    Use ECUTEK

      ECUtek has its place but if you are not going with a boosted set up the OpenFlash tablet is a fine choice. I've used both extensively but ECUtek is my least favorite from an enduser perspective.

      The Driver's Perspective with Ecutek and 93 oct gas I get 206 with deop in KN, front pipe no cat and no resonator no Muffler !! Then with Fiebruz IMRE and e85 those numbers climbed and 3” perrin CAI 234hp

      I do agree the added power of a header and E85 would have made this car far better received by the public.

    Such an expensive car and my wifes 2014 Malibu ltz turbo smokes them and my RSX when it was stock walked them hard. Don’t get me wrong they’re great cars and I would love to own one but they’re so under powered that makes me cringe. My next car will be an ecoboost mustang 6speed with performance pack. Just intake,DP, tune and they make BIG power

      Drive one on a twisty road and I think you'll feel different. This car isn't about power, but with about 200 at the wheels it's the same power to weight as an S2000. Plenty for fun.

      That's what I was thinking - you've effectively made it S2000 level power, a great place to be.
