it's called Inverse Kinematics and it's not actually different animations but procedually generated bone adaptations of the character to adjust to the environment like stairs etc. WuWa does it masterfully, but you can't really credit the animators for it, but rather the programmers.

Yeah, they really need to work on this aim stuff. For me, the rectifier combat is a nightmare because they step back, and when I try to sprint to close the distance, they instead sprint backwards and make it even worse. I use three times as much stamina than I need to.

@@sownheard the cons is basically just more backend processes for the engine to run for nothing more than a bit of visual flair. and this is not something that the player can just opt out of in the settings either. so if a studio want to make sure even players with potato pcs can play the game, its not exactly a high priority feature. there is also the fact that sometime the animation may go into bone breaking territory, example: Yang Yang chin kissing her knee. so animations need to be created with the possible adjustments in mind. at the end of the day, its just a visual feature. people can argue if having it make the game better or not all they want, just dont stoop to blaming the engine or animations.

I love this in wuwa so much. Love that the characters actually respect the environment and dont clip through everything like in genshin. (Ik there's some parts it does clip, but its impossible for that not to happen in an open world game) but its so satisfying the way Camellya goes down the stairs while spinning

Huh, seems genshin didn't turn on the IK at attack animations. There is an IK on every walking animation but none at sprinting animation. I think this is more than performance reason to not applying IK on every animation sequences. Fun fact: if you play genshin on mobile, with lowest settings possible, the IK isn't even on at standing pose.
I'm waiting for the hoyoshills to come here and defend gi devs. Man there are flaws in wuwa that I'd never defend just so the devs will further improve the game. Another thing to notice is that the color of the weapon slashes in genshin are all the same color and as for wuwa it has its respective color for each resonator
Genshin's shows what element you're hitting with. Pale Yellow is Physical, Blue is Hydro, Red is Pyro, etc.. If they did Ayaka's dash before doing her normals, they'd be light blue

Like...are you bragging that hoyo created FOMO and made every character pay-walled for you to spend and just experience a simple mechanic which should've been for everyone? the one time where GI character reacts to stairs is when they're moving/idle as well as climbing but not in combat wuwa resonators may not be perfect but at least put a little detail there when fight on elevated areas etc. also a traveler/rover comparison... guess who's the real main character of their game :P ?
You do a lot of animation comparison but this one is especially fair and correct the quality is so much better in the way less popular game it's almost comical if Wuwa were to switch place with Genshin release good chunk of people would laugh at Genshin.

As someone who uses Unity, I’d say Hoyo is just lazy because they can do the same as WuWa, but they only use IK for stairs when the character is walking, running, and standing.

The one i notice is the foot animation on genshin sometimes doesn't stick to the ground but wuwa keep the characters foot on the ground, both genshin and wuwa sometime has characters foot shoved into the stairs but for wuwa its less noticeable because fast animation. Nice detail
I have to share something. I play genshin for past 3 years, never got double 5 star in my pull (i already buy i think like 5 battlepass, 3 monthly subscription things). Wuwa already give me triple 5 star without any paywall.
I don’t mind the time to time clipping of a GI characters foot in the stairs, but you can’t deny WuWa’s programmers made it so much better and believable

If you talking about "improving" then Kuro need to improve their game development(especially for WuWa) cuz just in 1 week they always have to fix "something" in the game...the proof is we sometimes(2 to 3 times a week) have to download resources for the game when we going to log in and it always around 150mb to 500mb(for smartphones)

Genshin generates billions every year and yet can't seem to improve the general experience, locking everything behind the gacha instead of overall QOL. And even though they're the same type of game in the sense of being open world with action combat, I play both because of those differences. If anything, this summer was more so about Wuthering Waves versus Zen Zone Zero. And WuWa won that, personally. PGR is my favorite action combat, but that doesn't mean I don't also like to immerse myself in an open-world. Genshin is even a sort of palette cleanser for me from how dark and depressing PGR gets.

That's a really cool detail, and one hell of a thing for great snapshots! But it also kinda shows Wuthering having an inverse problem: where Genshin characters have no dynamic height tracking and float over or clip into the steps, Wuthering has a bit too much, which 1:34 highlights with Yangang's leg bending into her torso due to the elevation. It's not a big deal, but it means that low stances would require a whole other type of dynamic animation where characters "lean" on their limbs, and I honestly think that would be beyond excessive. This alone is already more than I would ever ask of any company, so I see this as a luxury treat, not a quality measure.
There hasn't been a single game that can do stairs 100% realistic, the closest one was Metal Gear Solid V GZ/TPP but we are talking about Hideo Kojima and FOX Engine here, KUROGAMES is doing great with the tools they have, it isn't their fault that the game engine is this limited that it can't represent visually what seems to be a job well done (stairs logic/physics code/script). Hoyoverse seems to treat stairs as a ramp when whatever animation is playing until idle one kicks in then it goes slightly dynamic. But by just that you can see who are the lazy ones.
I think if WuWa added some small tweaks to stop the "leftover" movements on the stairs (so that characters don't unnaturally descend or ascend steps needlessly) that makes the feet suddenly move to the lower steps, it would be literally perfect. Or maybe make it so that when the feet readjust they don't just move ultra-fast down the step. Cause there's cases where WuWa's characters have one foot in a higher step, and when it moves down as they turn, it just like magnets down too fast that it's uncanny.
It is just IK (inverse kinematics). Genshin has it too but only when the character is standing. I guess that Genshin disables IK when the characters are doing anything but standing

Anyways, to be honest, didn't they already introduced elements of their previous game HI3 in Genshin? Like that girl and the Whale. They could just resolve the siblings dragging drama and make a problem beyond humankind or something as the new issue, like, at it's core Traveler just wants to find their sibling, it doesn't create that deep of a connection with the world they're experiencing because it looks like as soon as they find what they want, they will just go and leave.
One thing I like about the story in WuWa and it doesn't get mentioned much is how quickly they ditch the extremely used formula of "I lost my memories, I don't know who I was." That lots of gachas implement, like, we start with the memory issue and right next patch we have Jue telling us we are their master, the founder of Jinzhou and more shit, then Shorekeeper patch comes and MC pretty much has all the answers except WHY they erased their own memory... And not even that because we are told that we couldn't find an answer to an approaching problem so we tried to, literally, start over... and it isn't even 2.0
I have seen some people disregard this as they just glazing MC patch after patch but that's surface lvl understanding and honestly quite a hater's perspective, they took a used formula and destroyed it ASAP and now the rest is a white canvas that can develop with infinite possibilities.
Heck, some are even diminishing WuWa's plot and calling the game "Gathering Wives" while the only character who has actually expressed they "love" MC is Shorekeeper, someone that just recently was starting to develop emotions over a lot of things ☠️

Huh, seems genshin didn't turn on the IK at attack animations. There is an IK on every walking animation but none at sprinting animation. I think this is more than performance reason to not applying IK on every animation sequences.
Fun fact: if you play genshin on mobile, with lowest settings possible, the IK isn't even on at standing pose.

Another thing to notice is that the color of the weapon slashes in genshin are all the same color and as for wuwa it has its respective color for each resonator
Genshin's shows what element you're hitting with. Pale Yellow is Physical, Blue is Hydro, Red is Pyro, etc.. If they did Ayaka's dash before doing her normals, they'd be light blue

As someone who uses Unity, I’d say Hoyo is just lazy because they can do the same as WuWa, but they only use IK for stairs when the character is walking, running, and standing.

The one i notice is the foot animation on genshin sometimes doesn't stick to the ground but wuwa keep the characters foot on the ground, both genshin and wuwa sometime has characters foot shoved into the stairs but for wuwa its less noticeable because fast animation. Nice detail

@@Kirivera Your experience isn't everyone's experience. Genshin has been stagnant for years. Fontaine was good and even that had weak moments. Genshin generates billions every year and yet can't seem to improve the general experience, locking everything behind the gacha instead of overall QOL. Wuthering Waves is just simply better in every way and this is coming from an ex day one Genshin player with most of the characters.

And even though they're the same type of game in the sense of being open world with action combat, I play both because of those differences. If anything, this summer was more so about Wuthering Waves versus Zen Zone Zero. And WuWa won that, personally.
PGR is my favorite action combat, but that doesn't mean I don't also like to immerse myself in an open-world. Genshin is even a sort of palette cleanser for me from how dark and depressing PGR gets.

That's a really cool detail, and one hell of a thing for great snapshots! But it also kinda shows Wuthering having an inverse problem: where Genshin characters have no dynamic height tracking and float over or clip into the steps, Wuthering has a bit too much, which 1:34 highlights with Yangang's leg bending into her torso due to the elevation. It's not a big deal, but it means that low stances would require a whole other type of dynamic animation where characters "lean" on their limbs, and I honestly think that would be beyond excessive. This alone is already more than I would ever ask of any company, so I see this as a luxury treat, not a quality measure.
There hasn't been a single game that can do stairs 100% realistic, the closest one was Metal Gear Solid V GZ/TPP but we are talking about Hideo Kojima and FOX Engine here, KUROGAMES is doing great with the tools they have, it isn't their fault that the game engine is this limited that it can't represent visually what seems to be a job well done (stairs logic/physics code/script). Hoyoverse seems to treat stairs as a ramp when whatever animation is playing until idle one kicks in then it goes slightly dynamic.
But by just that you can see who are the lazy ones.
I think if WuWa added some small tweaks to stop the "leftover" movements on the stairs (so that characters don't unnaturally descend or ascend steps needlessly) that makes the feet suddenly move to the lower steps, it would be literally perfect. Or maybe make it so that when the feet readjust they don't just move ultra-fast down the step. Cause there's cases where WuWa's characters have one foot in a higher step, and when it moves down as they turn, it just like magnets down too fast that it's uncanny.
It is just IK (inverse kinematics). Genshin has it too but only when the character is standing. I guess that Genshin disables IK when the characters are doing anything but standing
