  • I took a trip on the Wayback Machine and Google Search to learn the details of the rise, fall, and implosion of Mystical Creation Yarn. It's a strange yarn tale of bleeding yarn and a faked death. (scroll down for some reference links) (*Indicates affiliate links. The story that just won’t die! Even though this is old news, it bears watching again - scammers are everywhere, and there are certainly red flag lessons to be learned here. Thanks for the coverage.

    This was really fun to watch as someone not involved in the knitting community AT ALL. The way you presented the info was super fun and soooooo salty XD

    I love stuff like this! The only other legend-type story like this I've heard was the whole GothSocks debacle... what a mess!

      Yeah. I want to do more of these. I'm casting about (ah no pun intended) for another one. But, I'm holding off on doing another faked death right away.

    Oh my God, I loved this video, thank you. I can only imagine how much work this must have been.
    I am very much into True Crime and never thought that there is True Crime material in our knitting community. 😂
    You have a big talent in telling and summing up complicated stories and it was so cozy to see you crocheting during the process. Now I have to check out your other videos. Great job!

    Check out the story of Rainy Days and Wooly Dogs also known as GothSocks. Another one who died, but for only 10 minutes, it is from that debacle the group Demon Trolls started on Ravelry.

      I will have to look more into those. I know about GothSocks but hadn't heard of the other two. I've always intended to do more videos like this but ... life.

    I was in Ravelry at the time. I was part of the rubberneck group. I knew a podcaster and dyer who went on her blog to explain how to make your yarn colorfast if you bought MCY yarns. That was before she "died" and I remember lots of drama between MCY and the other dyer.
    I also remember someone "dying" in the middle of a yarn subscription service and then coming back to life. Was that Goth socks? I don't really remember. The rubberneck group was so fun back in the day.

      Oh interesting. And yes it was Goth Socks who "died" for about 10 minutes.

    I bought yarn from her! I remember having some big issues, I think with her turnaround time, lack of responsiveness, color, and quality. I wonder if I still have my emails from that.

    I'm from the indie makeup and more subreddit, so I've seen my fair share of controversies about small business owners when their brands implode. But I've never seen anyone fake a death. I've only heard something like that happening in the bookish community. However I've seen how the community can react when a small brand owner is in the midst of drama, including how much grace and leeway they get before we're drafting up scam warning posts, I know how exactly this plays out, I'm not from this particular niche of crafting, but I've seen this for perfume and bath and body brands.

    • @CarrieCraftGeek
      @CarrieCraftGeek  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It was when a person went online and faked their death, usually by posing as a grieving family member informing an online community that a popular member had passed away. It's a combination of pseudonym and suicide. (I probably didn't pronounce it correctly.

    • @marilynsullivan4361
      @marilynsullivan4361 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It’s actually pronounced “SU-do” side - like the word pseudo. Some of this vlogger’s pronunciations are difficult to interpret.
