    I had to do it at a gas station, and got thrown off twice when this tyre bulged up with the back pressure. I am a very courageous woman, but this made me very nervous. When I came home and watched your video, I felt validated. Thanks for posting this video.

    I had to deal with that on the side of the road. I thought it wasn't working properly (filling with the factory air pump). I over inflated the tire to make it look like a normal tire then dropped the pressure back down. I didn't drive in the tire but just used it to get on and off the trailer. Sketched me out

      Yeah, for the regular tires. Spare tire doesn't count as far as door panel info, spare tire takes different pressure than the regular tires.
      It's totally up to the manufacturer if they decide to also include spare tire pressure on the door panel.

  • @amzarnacht6710

    I was taught by Mercedes and Porche to put the uninflated tire on the vehicle, put the vehicle down, and THEN start inflating. That keeps the tread centered and limits how much (and how violently) it rolls to the inside/outside of the rim.
    Truly a HORRIBLE design.
    When I get a tire that finishes the way yours did I tell the operator to drive very slowly for about a mile to let the tire tread center itself.
    And when you deflated it at the end you were very VERY lucky that the bead did not break... which happens pretty much every time the spare is used & deflated.

    • @0221serendipity
      @0221serendipity ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @amzarnacht6710: I totally agree! This is a horrible design. It's a lawsuit just waiting to happen. A friend asked me to change her flat on her audi and this was the spare. The inflation psi is not visible until its inflated. No warning to keep away/back during inflation. Thankfully it was mounted and the car was on the ground when I inflated. To anyone changing one of these: BE CAREFUL.

  • @tcap7917

    4"? He must be using an Irish ruler.
    Follow the manufactures instructions. If missing they are accessible through the MMI. Mounting the tire and then inflating with the included inflater would reduce the chances of injury when the tire expands. Using that or an air supply that attaches to the valve stem will eliminate the need to hold it.
    Regardless if that's your daily driver doing that to your hood is just wrong.

  • @lnguyen8844

    The label states 50 MPH Max. That is the maximum speed you should drive when this tire is installed, not the pressure. To fully inflate the tire, you need to pump it up to 60 PSI. Please read the label and owners manual.

    • @josegil1775

      Wrong. I am a roadside assistance and I have done a lot of this vehicle. The psi for this tire is 51. It says on the legend's sticker on the driver's side. That you should drive slowly on this tire? Yes, you should and I believe is 50 mph max.

    Such a very very odd tire. Mine inflated the other way. I had it in the axel and then started inflating but the pops it made got me scared. I took it off and inflated on the ground somewhat like here (not on the hood). Hard time getting it back in the axel afterwards but it’s 50psi and American tire is 7miles

    • @amzarnacht6710
      @amzarnacht6710 ปีที่แล้ว

      Next time put it on, secure it firmly, let the car down onto it... and THEN inflate it. That will reduce the rollover and the weight of the vehicle will draw the tread back to center.
      And have a SHOP deflate the tire, then make sure the bead is still seated before putting it in the trunk.

  • @rickwolf1719

    50 PSI is MAX....
    Doesn't mean that's the working rating.
    The spare tire rating is on the door jam label..
    Mine reads..
    Front 33 PSI
    Rear 33 PSI
    Spare 61 PSI
    I have a traditional "donut" spare, but your door jam should have the proper rating for your collapsible tyre.

    • @NaptownTuner
      @NaptownTuner  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Spare tires can be swapped and or the tire replaced so I never bother what the sticker. Max pressure is always safe pressure and In my experience the space saver spare tire is going to take more that basic psi.. it says 51psi on the door stick btw. Also the spare tire without an inflator is one of the most commonly neglected items that shops or customers don’t check and it’s often under inflated when you need to use it.
