That's exactly what I do, though I don't do the full password. Just enough to know what capitalized letters are used, any symbols and numbers, otherwise, it's asterisks for the missing sections. However, need to clean it out and get rid of cruft/old accounts and move it to Excel.
Resetting the password with Microsoft maybe an impossible task, as they ask for actual content of emails sent, which without having access to it, it is impossible to provide. I have this unfortunate experience when trying to reset the password in outlook, in spite of having all the posed questions correctly replied, so the account and many emails are forever lost, which is regrettable.
I'm in the same boat got blocked from my account due to suspicious log in whilst on holiday in Asia and can't recall the last emails I sent so a twenty-five-year account gone now the hassle of having to inform every contact of my new email which isn't an outlook one.

Write it down, put it in a safe place. Physical paper, word doc on a usb, etc. Then you can "recover" that. 😁
