    Just caught up on the series after a week or so of dedicated watching. Loving the Heroes III gameplay! You don't agonize an hour at a time over every little decision, and you clearly understand the game very well.

    I love this channel! Please do another Heroes 3 playthrough as soon as you can. I personally love the challenge of Tower, but any faction other than Conflux will do . Please pick an off meta hero as your main but does not have to be one with something boring like Eagle Eye

    I have watched quite a lot of your HoMM3 videos. Something I think will make your life a lot easier in these playthroughs: when you take a enemy's town, make the cost effective effort to defend them. Mostly just acquire the tank-y units (cavalier, dwarf, dendriod, golem, Naga, orge etc), also try taking away the units that can cause problem in the hands of AI (level 7 creatures, dragonflys, thunder bird etc). Don't bother building anything except castles. The idea is to wear AIs down with towers and spells, and prevent them from building up any meaningful stack. You don't really care if they take the town as long as you can retake it without too much trouble. The AIs waste so much money recruiting creatures that don't make any difference from mid-game onwards(elves, wolf rider, gargoyle, magog etc) and building up the town. Let them do that and you don't have to sell tons of resources to do that yourself. Just build up the really useful stacks yourself and soon you'll have 3 heroes all better than their best hero so you can just sweep the map in one go.

      Interesting suggestions - I don't feel like it's too different from what I've been trying to do in this playthrough (prioritising the Dwarf + Dendroid + Castle combo for example) but I guess I've never really seen any creature types as being redundant. The way I see it, if the numbers build up enough, any creature can be good. Trying to bleed the AI out of gold is tough because they get a significant flat % bonus to their income per turn on 200% difficulty. I tend to focus on cutting off their supply of units instead, and making sure it's always a costly exchange (my losses vs their losses) when they besiege me.

      @@Norovo Yes it's only a subtle difference in the priorities: the way I see it, from 4wks onwards it just never matters if the enemy's hero has an extra two wks' worth of gargoyle/wight/lizardman etc. Sometimes you sell your last bit of resources or give up recruiting creatures from your own main to buy every creature possible to defend a town. You definitely do want to take away whatever their power stack creature is, but just leave the random creatures that don't really fit in their army to them. Just build your own power stack. Once you have decent casting/flying units, you really don't care if the AI takes a town temporarily and spend their gold on a bunch of useless things.

    Been watching your series ever since I found your channel, I love the content you have ^^
    A question regarding the gold chests though, is it ever worth it to go for the XP reward, or is it always more worth to just go for the gold reward, since you’ll get XP from fights anyway?

      These are a few situations I think XP would be worth:
      1. On Day one of the game, if gold is not desperately needed. Leveling up your main hero can be very important. For Valeska (Archers/Marksmen) or Calh (Gogs/Magogs), Advanced Archery boosts the range attack damage by 15% over Basic Archery. For Necro, 5% more necromancy, especially from Basic to Advanced, is essential. From a fight against 20-29, 30-39, or 40-49 Gnolls, Basic Necro raises 1, 1, or 2 skeletons, whereas Advanced Necro 2, 3, and 4, respectively. For Luna, Advanced Fire Magic allows her to place 3-hex Fire Walls instead of 2-hex once.
      2. Mid-game, 1000 or 1500 XP from a chest can help your hero level up, say Erth Magic to expert level, and use mass slow against an otherwise tricky guard nearby.
      As you see, you have to assess the situation and judge accordingly.

      I'm not against taking 1500 exp sometimes, but choosing 500 exp over 1000 gold feels like a bad deal nearly always.

    Hi, I'm playing on complete edition and don't have a number of the button features that I'm seeing in your game, like the unit transfer window options that you use, as well as a few combat options, is this because you play on specifically shadow of death as opposed to complete, or are these functions I can access too?     Hello, I recently bought this game (thanks to your videos I have been watching), and I'm trying to setup SoD_SP for a playthrough, and I was wondering what settings I should enable or disable? Since I haven't played the game before I have no idea what is what, haha. I tried googling some stuff but I can't really find any information (might be my fault).

      I don't remember my settings tbh, I only used it for this playthrough. I only remember that you need to add it as a plugin on the HD mod launcher

      It's worth running if you can find a way, just for the spell hotkeys (although I didn't even use them here 😆). But the HD mod is good enough. SoD_SP doesn't work with HotA anyway, for example.

    Hello @Norovo. Your videos are very relaxing and nice to watch. I like your way of thinking and I'd like to hear your opinion about something. I'm currently making a game, which burrows from Rougelikes, but is less action packed than i.e. Risk of Rain. It's a 2D digging game, kinda like Terraria without crafting, but plenty of items. It has buildings on the map with similarities to those in HoMM3, where each building has a single function. The basic structure is done, but content is to be made.
    What do you find interesting in a game?
    What do you think are essential drivers?
    The questions are very broad, but if you like, I can try making them more narrow/specific and provide more information.
    If you don't have the time to answer such things, it's completely understandable. : )

      I'm not sure my answers would be any more insightful than anyone else's, especially as I spend more time editing than playing these days, but what most of my favourite games have in common is a sense of growth (in power usually) and creative expression (i.e. many viable playstyles/strategies... I get put off games which have a defined 'meta' you shouldn't deviate from). I haven't really played any roguelikes, the idea of permadeath feels too punishing to me, but I appreciate that in many (most?) of them you retain some of your achievements for future runs.

      ​@@Norovo Do you feel it's more attractive to get weakened when dying, rather than ending the game?
      I do really follow you on the only one strict path to succes is annoying - especially IMHO if the game tries selling itself as being open.
      I've noticed that you put down restrictions for yourself, when you play HoMM3 - which makes good sense as Diplomacy is very OP - but also more subtle things, as sticking to a faction's units for attacking. Would you find it nice to have variables for setting the difficulty on different parameters, rather than (or along with) easy, medium, hard, impossible?
      I like your answer - it seems nicely balanced between intuition and reflection, which I also find in your videos. There was a meteor shower, that your brain told you to cast on a single stack, whereas your heart tried convincing you to pick to or three stacks.
      One thing I've spent some time thinking about, is randomization and amount of choices given by the game. What do you think about that? I.e. in HoMM3 a chest offers two options - but they could have added a third to get i.e. 3-6 units of a random resource, and even a fourth option to get some troops. General thoughts on this are very appriciated - and thank you for your answer.

      I think it really depends on your vision as a dev - more selectable variables is great in theory for creating tailored experiences, but then players aren't playing exactly the same game any more, which could put off players who are trying to master the "skill" side of the game. Either way, replayability and keeping things varied each time is critical (and a big part of why Heroes 3 never died).

    why do u buy a million imps instead of devils and siultans who are considerably better units?

      3 possible reasons: to demon farm, responding to low unit availability, or to focus on a power stack (better than multiple small weak stacks)
