It was fascinating watching the Durban section, because I was born there in 1948 and lived there for fourteen years, when my parents and I moved to the UK. That is to say, I was a child and boy during the apartheid years (though not knowing that at the time). It was very much an English enclave, as also the whole of Natal (Kwa-Zulu Natal now), with very little involvement with Afrikanerdom. The city was very lovely, though of course white-controlled, and, now, gosh, just in this snippet, the city is entirely unrecognisable and, quite rightly, belonging to the African peoples.
