I'd be fine with that but not too likely. JD has put many other significant equipment manufacturer out of business or seen them reduced to shadows of their former selves. You used to have Allis Chalmers, Steiger, Case, International Harvester, Oliver, Massey Ferguson, New Holland, White, Minneapolis-Moline, as well as several others to choose from. Some are gone, some have merged, some have gotten out of the large ag equipment market. I'm not sure who the biggest competitor to JD is these days, I'm years out of touch. Probably Case-IH. In the town where I grew up they're the only implement dealer other than JD anyway. But the JD dealership is twice the size and with a much larger range of equipment.
Hey, I’m an American, a veteran, a farmer, but also a businessman and entrepreneur. I get the move, and will continue to buy their equipment. Dealing with entitled American workers, compiled with the growth in South American agriculture, long term, I’m talking 20 yrs out, it would be better to never sell a piece of equipment in the US if it meant missing out on that emerging production capability. It will be out producing us 5, 6, 7:1 one day. Everyone who farms today in the US, won’t be in 20-30 yrs. Not unless they bring innovative products and ideas to the market, and farming in general. We just had a few good years, otherwise, farming has always been a big black hole. Unless you popped out of the trance, quit doing what everyone else does, and have multiple revenue streams from every acre, every day of every year. Farm to enrich yourself, not everyone else.
John Deere isn't the only game in town. They better watch it or their stockholders will be all booboo faced when farmers quit buying their stuff and hand the CEO his head on a platter.
And you could say that sales in the States isn't their only form of income. There is the whole rest of the world that they can and already do sell not only farm equipment but construction equipment is probably a larger portion of their sales. As far as not letting farmers fix their own machines. I have to compare this to the advanced computerized machine tools that every modern machine shop utilizes nowadays. Most of know enough not to even try to work on these things because we have all heard horror stories of some guy opening up the cabinet and totally destroying a machine by accident when it indeed was a simple repair that a trained service technician could have taken care of with minimal cost. But instead the owner of the shop has a multi million dollar piece of junk taking up space in his shop and his only recourse is to fire some guy that probably wasn't too bright because of the fact that he screwed up the machine when he was told to let the professionals take care of it.
They can stay in Mexico. No deferent than an item made in China. They have forgotten their roots. If not made here, then tariff them just like any other import. Green went from farming to making the green for the CEO and upper management to stuff their pockets. I'll never buy a new green machine again. The older units are better anyway.
You all do realize that farming equipment isn't their only product? John Deer probably makes more construction equipment that is sold internationally. Try to get over the fact that perhaps selling a few green tractors to the US market isn't a priority with them. As far as fixing this modern equipment, it reminds me of the computerized machine tools that most every modern machine shop has nowadays and the horror stories of some guy thinking he could fix something and then totally screwing it up. The fella was told not to mess around with it but in his ignorance he tried something stupid and now the owner of the business has a really big problem. You might think that you own this equipment but chances are that a bank actually owns it and it really isn't in their best interest if you screw up their machine.

The tariff is paid by the importer and passed to the consumer. Tarrifs only work if there is a better or similar American product of similar quality at the same or better price available. Otherwise the consumer will foot the bill.

It is time for Congress to outlaw corporations from paying CEOs with stock options. That will accomplish two things: (1) it will make the CEOs pay taxes on their compensation as they earn it and not let them defer until they exercise the options and sell the stock, and (2) it will take away some of the incentive for CEOs to maximize the stock price even if it harms the company. This is not to say that employees are blameless though. Their constant union demands for more compensation clearly incentivizes companies to go elsewhere for labor so they are doing it to themselves. We are not completely a communist country yet and companies are not established to benefit employees. If employees and their union want that, then they need to start their own companies with their own money.
