    One In A Million is definitely worth a reaction. Adults tip toe around lyrics now like we’re infants. It’s a song that tells a story, some people may not like it but some people don’t like a lot of things. I think songs like One In A Million are the point of music reaction vids. Listen to the song and like it,love it or trash it when it’s over.Just my opinion.

      One in a Million is such a misunderstood song BUT I would HIGHLY recommend not reacting to it has the N-word, the word Faggots etc are in the song. Remember it was 1989 and even then Axl got a ton of shit for that song. They also didn’t perform it live. Slash, who’s half black, approved the song Bc he knew what the viewpoint of the song was meant to be. But in 2021 I’d stay away. Bc unless you grew up and listened to the countless interviews from the band, especially Axl, had to give about this song you will, like most, not get the point of the song. It comes off as very racist and homophobic but it wasn’t. But it’s not easy to know that. So I’d stay away.

    Love GNR and this album!! So glad you are doing this one. As far as One In A Million it depends on how you view the song. Some people think that it is his personal views and some people think it is how he was viewed by others. I did see an interview with Slash saying that although he didn't totally agree with the lyrics he absolutely knew that Axl wasn't a racist. Hope that helps you a little. Great reaction!! 🙂

    One million is a great song. Like he said he came from a small town to start a new life in a big wide world. He never encountered black peoples or gay people, the words he used in the song are the only words he knew to describe them they were the only words that were used. They were the times. He would never use them again.

    I heard this when I was 8 years old (1987), my brother brought this album home and I put it on the record player. It was the first time I heard the F word in a song, but I wasn't phased. It depends on how it's used I guess. 😁

    One in a million is a song Axl wrote about when he first moved out to LA from Indiana. He rode a Greyhound bus the whole way, and when he got off the bus he’s writing from the point of view of a scared and prejudiced character, which is who he was at the time. Was he still that way in 1989 when he wrote the song? Opinions differ. They did remove it from future editions of the album. I get what he was trying to do, writing from the point of view of an angry, hate filled person, but I wish he wouldn’t have used those words. As he said later, too easily misinterpreted. Even if you say you’re playing a character, people we think that’s how you really feel and hold it against you.
    Musically, it’s brilliant. The words just overshadow everything.

    I'm crazy (haha) about this slow motion of "You're crazy" that I can sing by heart for the fun. I definitely agree with you when you say that "his voice is the thing carrying the entire song" because even if the music is quite nice, it might sound somehow a little flat compared to everything he's doing with his voice. Try to sing it with a karaoke version and you'll feel really lonely. Haha! That being said, I also enjoy this one because it shows his voice's potential. I wouldn't really compare it to "November rain" which has a completely different rythrm and feel to it and of course a spectacular instrumental accompaniment. Let's say this is another one of GNR's facettes. Perhaps you prefer a richer musical background?

    • @michaeljfoley1
      @michaeljfoley1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Axl's vocal performance is definitely what makes this song. I enjoy it for that reason, although I still prefer "Used To Love Her", Move to the City", "Patience", and "Mama Kin" over this song. I really love Axl's voice on this album, it feels a bit more raw. Maybe the AFD tour wore it a bit ragged.

    I'd say you've listened to about 70% of their stuff, albeit half of the remaining songs are covers. As far as this song goes, I think its a banger and Axls vocals are what carry this song in a good way. I like it better than Appetites version. Also One in a Million is a great song and yes, you can put it up on TH-cam. It just aged poorly considering the time period we're in right now

    I would still react to one in a million because it’s a good song. Musically it’s great but the lyrics are controversial. Take out the racial slurs and it’s a great song! There are some reactions of one in a million so I think it’s possible to react to it without it getting blocked. If you do react to it, keep in mind that Axl is basically telling his own story of moving from a small town to LA, having nothing, and what he experienced

    I subscribed to you because you're one of the only reactors I watch that was willing to take such a deep dive into GNR, and I've been waiting for you to get to this albumn! I like the acoustic version of You're Crazy better than the Appetite For Destruction version. The best version of this song happens to be the 'clean' version that they did on a late night tv show (Guns N' Roses You're Crazy Live 1988 in case you're interested and I would love you forever if you actually reacted to it because NO ONE does). The instrumentation and Axl's voice in that version meld a lot better, his voice is perfection in that song (think: if Robert Plant of Led Zepplin and Janis Joplin had a love child, it would be Axl Rose in that performance). th-cam.com/video/wWOebV2lLqc/w-d-xo.html

    One in a million is a very good song but the homophobic and racist slurs in the lyrics are definitely an issue. It is a product of its time. I loved it as a teenager but I personally decided to stop listening to it more recently due to the lyrics. I would suggest you react to it anyway and then make your own mind up.
