It was way worse before VAR. they just need to make better decisions using it. I remember terrible tackles by Terry, Rooney, etc which just got “the talk”.
I am an American Arsenal fan and I just don't understand why the best League in the World has the worst referees. You all make the NFL referees look like saints. I get Arsenal can appeal and it will get overturned blah blah blah. But the fact is why wasn't VAR used during the match? It didn't even go to VAR, he just instantly approved it. I heard a caller on Talk Sport (I think) and he said he wasn't sure if the VAR official was afraid to question Michael Oliver because he is his boss. The English referees need to go to Germany and learn from the Bundesliga.
Another example I'd give is when Bruno G basically assaulted Jorginho on the pitch at Newcastle. VAR looked at it and gave the clearance. How does that have a place on the football pitch yet MLS challenge is instantly red carded?? They literally have no common sense the officials...
Oliver should not be a PL referee - he's a confirmed NUFC supporter and so can have a direct effect on their league position by penalising their rivals.
Match-fixing by the elites was difficult before, until they bought out VAR, so its a lot easier to manipulate the results now. The clubs are not involved in the scam, and its clear to see.
Referees seem to think they lose authority and our respect if they change their decisions based on VAR but it's the opposite, we would actually respect them even if it goes against our team if it's a correct or at least consistent decision
Last season Arsenal were expected to fall back after being unexpectedly good in 2022-23. Liverpool were thought to be the biggest threat to City. They were the victims of at least two awful decisions - the goal disallowed at Spurs and the failure to award a penalty for handball against Odegaard at Anfield. This season Arsenal were expected to be the big threat to City and have been the victims of a series of atrocious decisions. A pattern is developing.
I have been saying this since last year and I'm an arsenal fan Web has said he will still let his ref's go to the UAE this summer conflict of interest and corruption at its best
@@steveo4991 I'm not a Liverpool fan so I only named the two most obvious examples. I couldn't remember which season that particular assault occurred and didn't result in a penalty.
Also as for the Trossard yellow, its like anything else, they don't apply it all the time, like yesterday the same referee who gave trossard that second yellow decided not to give the wolves player a second yellow for the same offense. And Remember hes the referee that the Howard Webb came out and said "he didn't want to negatively influence the game" when choosing to not send off a city player for a second yellow for an ankle studs up challenge. coincidentily versus arsenal last season. Thats why we are mad, there is no doubt in my mind its because the PGMOL have a bias aganist arsenal and in my opinion this stems from when Arteta came out called them a disagrace they tried to get him suspended and arsenal lawyered up and won the appeal. They are not a professional organisation, they are a vindictive "bunch of mates" who want to look after each other and their posiitons, rather than looking after the players or the game.
And don't forget that: 1. That card was given in the 8th minute of 6 minutes of extra time. These cheats were already doing everything in their power to help City equalize, and 2. There's a great image that shows Trossard kicking the ball AND THE WHISTLE IS IN OLIVER'S MOUTH! He was already mid-kick when the whistle was blown.
"We cheated Arsenal." The VAR explanation for the incident was utterly ridiculous and has only served to expose their flaws further. They might as well have admitted outright, "We just cheated Arsenal." Football fans aren’t naive-we all saw it wasn’t a red card. The desperate attempts to justify Michael Oliver’s decision have completely backfired and only fueled the backlash.
Wrong he made no attempt to play the ball studs to the ankle learn the rules terry you said jones was red card so don't change the rules now terry stop exposing yourself
@blueviper3861 Trying to fans bollocks drinks as well every answer the football terrace has put out today for fans has a spam of their bollocks drink and nothing about football and all they do is laugh
These officials are so blatant yet they assume that continuously gaslighting the fans will allow them to constantly make these dubious calls without any repercussions. There in lies the problem.
As an Arsenal fan I can say fair play to most of the rival fans like yourself being objective now. But the main reason why everyone claims Arsenal fans are entitled is because we have been making noise about bad referees for nearly 30 years now. We have been on the end of some of the most “HIGH PROFILE” (based on the size of our club and the competitions we’re usually in) and insane decisions for a very long time. Now yes Arsenal can always do more to take the decision and results out of officials hands but why are we the ones that are supposed to make sure that we don’t have a ref messing up the flow and momentum of a game. And then when us as Fans rightfully have an issue with how we are being officiated we’re now seen as entitled and cry babies. Entitled? To good refereeing? I think we’re all entitled to fair officiating no? Also according to rivals our supposed entitlement is a problem but somehow we’re simultaneously supposed to have wildly high standards. Rivals need to pick one. It’s either Arsenal are a big team and the fans should demand success and be angry when we don’t get it OR Arsenal are a small team and the fans should be happy to compete. We as fans and rivals can’t have it both ways when it comes to support and banter choose one Either we’re big enough to be entitled or we’re small enough for rivals to praise how good of a team we are atm.
Great documentation by Terry. Solutions? 1- VAR officials independent from referee body 2- VAR officials should be rule nerds 3-The PL form its own referee body, scrap pgmol. Hire the best in class from around the globe. PL is rich enough to do this! 4- Establish independent body to monitor referee performances. Retain the best, move on the consistently subpar. By the way, these are all feasible remedies proposed by Pedro on the Arsenal Vision podcast.
Totally agree, they shouldn't keep getting away with it. It stinks of match fixing when there's a pattern. I find it quite shocking that it hasn't been called that yet. Perhaps the people rewarding them for these decisions are above the law but the ref's certainly aren't.
Totally agree they did it to Liverpool last year and klop left because of it Liverpool would have won a lot more Premier league under klop if this ref's and Web hadn't been on city side and I'm an arsenal fan all the fans want is to see great players playing great games of football and a fair title race.
All banter aside it is crazy when similar scenarios happen with other teams, ref decisions do seem on the negative side of the spectrum when it’s arsenal
Back when the Trossard red card happened against city I said to a friend that Oliver won’t ref another arsenal game for awhile and he’ll pop up in an away arsenal game against a lesser side later in the season. Fast forward to now he got the away game the week before arsenal plays city and instead of staying out the spotlight he went and do it again. Var didn’t overturn the card because they didn’t want to embarrass him and expose the corruption against Arsenal
And don't forget that his "punishment" for blatant match-fixing by not sending off Kovacic was to ref Arsenal vs City the very next time they met in the league. This is how you know it's corruption throughout the entire PGMOL: - Oliver receives a blatant bribe - Is allowed to ref Arsenal vs City anyway - Clearly tries to influence the outcome of that match - is given the reverse fixture less than 6 months anyway - Influences the outcome of that match by sending off Trossard in the 8th minute of 6 added on even though he was mid-kick when the whistle was blown If you have a blatantly corrupt ref, and yet he keeps getting put in the position to influence the outcome of key games despite damning evidence of his corruption, then clearly he's not the only one who is corrupt!
Even the Trossard one was terrible Terry 0.8 seconds after the whistle blew, whilst benardo silva was still on the floor there was no way city was taking a quick free kick with a player down it doesn't make sense.
Hahaha only fights for arsenal 😂😂😂 when jones slipped on the ball terry said red card but this isn't 😂😂😂😂 when he made no attempt to play the ball studs to the ankle
What can we say, 2 inconsistent decisions made within the same game. As a Liverpool fan we've had our fair share but this isn't about 1 team, it's happening in multiple games with some refs being consistent culprits
correct, ex refferee said it once, his mate was the ref and he was VAR, and He shaw that his mate had a difficult game to reff, and he saw a foul but didnt want to give his mate more difficult discission to give the player a red card so he does not call his mate to the VAR screen .
Oliver will get the brunt of the criticism, which he deserves his fair share and does appear to hold grudges or agendas, but my god, Darren England deserves a hell of a lot more, he is on VAR, he is meant to look and over turn bad decisions like this, how he looked at that incident and agreed it was a sending off is so confusing and concerning and then with the Liverpool game how are you allowed to jump and knee someone that high up (Its in line with the throat) and that isnt a red either? The refereeing in this country is beyond abysmal
I keep hearing that VAR is trying to intervene as little as possible and avoid overturning onfield decisions. If that was the case, then why was the yellow card that Saliba received against Bournemouth reviewed and changed to a red? Might have had something to do with Howard Webb sitting in the stand and getting on the blower to order a change of decision.
Terry i agree with everything you said here. Yesterday's red card and lack of straight red card for the Wolves player a DISGRACE, VAR a DISGRACE. Terry if there is any justice, red card be recinded. PGMOL & VAR NOT FIT 4 PURPOSE. Stevec NORTH LONDON FOREVER
I couldn't agree with you more. Either cheating or corruption. There is no way anybody can be that horribly incompetent and still keep their job. Ridiculous
First commenter here, I think this thing with the referees in England is getting extremely ridiculous. Not only Arsenal, the inconsistency across the league is becoming intentional & madness. Micheal Oliver should be investigated especially with all his drama against Arsenal
There should have been some sort of tribunal outside of PGMOL that demand answers directly from the officials of those games som they MUST answer for their decisions. There won't be a change until the refs know they will be held accountable, either by fines or matchbans.
Thanks Terry for the graphic on Michael Oliver. For me this is it, this is really it, this is Michael Oliver v Arsenal. Every time this happens we innocently, wrongly, try to generalise it about PGMOL. Yes, the PGMOL is incompetent, because of that referees like Michael Oliver have abused their position to make bad decisions, I mean his worst decisions have been against Arsenal. I think Michael Oliver has something personal, I don't know what it is, against Arsenal. I've played and watched football all my life, I've never witnessed what he did against Martinelli, two yellow cards for the same action at Wolves. We mustn't fall into the trap of making this about PGMOL, it allows refs like Oliver to avoid responding to something we don't know he has against Arsenal. We saw the referee who was sacked recently, what he said behind closed doors about Jurgen Klop. I bet Oliver is no different to what he thinks against Michael Arteta. These referees are human beings who perhaps had a grudge against this or that manager or club. As soon as I saw Oliver refereeing this game, I thought OMG what kind of red card Arsenal was going to get today for Michael Oliver to be once again the STAR of the show. Half an hour later, that's what happened. It's beyond predictable.
I'm an Oregon Arsenal supporter. I reffed a total of twenty years. Michael Oliver is not your best referee. He's your best political referee. I went to a Sheffield Wednesday vs Leeds match in August. The referee in that Championship match was far better than Oliver.
Great video Terry thank god someone is finally calling it out, the media will not say the word, it always happens in a sport with so much money involved
Oliver has given 23% of all of arsenals red cards since the 2015/16 season! 23% whilst only refereeing 12% of their games!! Thats unbelievable, either he is just incompetent or he's just dodgy. Either way he needs investigating.
At least 80 percent of the players in PL are foreigners. Why not bring the best refs from other countries? At least let the VAR be handled by ref from other countries.
A conscious dicision was made at PGMOL last season after Arteta described the referees association as disgraceful, that they would prevent Arsenal from winning any domestic silverware going forward…….
As a city fan, i have NO IDEA how that Doku challenge wasnt a 3 game minimum red card. No idea how he's gotten away with that. It's clear as day red card
Arteta called out the Bruno Fernandez red card in the press after the game as a reference for appeal. I can’t see the 3 games standing and if it does, officials are just corrupt, plain and simple.
I remember Trippier getting a red for a tackle on De Bruyne a couple of seasons back, but VAR intervened and after the ref went to the monitor it was changed to a yellow, my point is, why didn’t that happen on this occasion?
Unfortunately, nothing will change because PL clearly sees the constant refereeing controversies as part of its entertainment product. Otherwise they would’ve done something already. Embarrassing.
Yeah but don't you think that at some point fans are going to go and watch football another way like their local non league football I know have and just watch highlights on TV and have stopped going to the stadium on match day I used to enjoy having a season ticket. With VAR match fixing it costing teams and a lot of money the teams that relegated are a just agrived
There was another incident later in the game where Timber got studded down his shin in front of Oliver but nothing was done about it & they want us to take them seriously
We predicted Media and PGMOL will come up with deflective tactics 2.0. Michael Oliver has given 108 yellow cards 8 redcards to Arsenal alone. In contrast 0 red for Mancity Miles Skelly has been 1 of the best player for Arsenal few games now oh! coincidence Arsrnal is facing City next then Newcastle Let that sink in.
Oliver has given arsenal 8 red cards in about 56 games. Liverpool 1 red card in roughly the same amount of games. And city 0 in also about 50 odd games... Hmmmm. Not to mention how bizarre and unprecedented nearly all of them are. There's a compilation of them, it's weird. The fact that arsenal haven't driven to have this man to never officiate one of their matches again, or just get sacked, baffles me. Arsenal aren't a particularly rough team, the reds seem so extreme this season, could it really be that they hate Arteta for calling them out?
The handball from Ødegaard was NOT HANDBALL! It's explicitly written into the handball rule that it is NOT handball if the player is using that hand as part of a fall - the player CLEARLY slips and is attempting to maintain balance. It seems mad but it was absolutely the correct decision.
There is more than enough evidence to say we don't want mike Oliver to ref our games tho. I agree we shouldn't be tribal and all stand together. But till this actually happens I don't want him to ref another arsenal game.
Big up Terry!!!! Speak your mind bruv. Corruption is corruption, and that's what it is!!! Get them out and install an independent party that is non partial!!!! I've been saying this since last season when all these funny things have been happening!!!
Any football fan that thinks PGMOL is not fit for purpose can we all sing on 42 minutes "SACK PGMOL" or something similar at every game from now on ! Imagine the whole stadium united together complaining with every other ground doing the same, again and again and again ! The fa and premier league will have to listen because this is being broadcast to the rest of the world ! We have the power to unite and put the pressure on !
You should have seen Liverpool game Ipswich player did a even worse foul and only got a yellow and I'm pretty sure that player got a assist for their goal at end too
100% it’s on us, we gotta make the change these referees are too power hungry, every week we are speaking about the ref rather then the game we all love, it’s not about any one club it’s about the game !!
I’m an Arsenal fan and it definitely isn’t only our club. It’s quite simply embarrassing to watch the so called best league in the world with laughable decisions every few weeks. The cover up is just as bad as the decision itself. PGMOL is a joke. VAR is a joke. PL is a joke
0:50 not dramatic BUT 🗣BORING 😮 seeing these consistent incompetent decisions, red cards you'll never see, Skelly and Saliba reds but guess what you'll see them every game 😭
The 2 reds for delay of games costed us minimum 3 points. We didn’t see one yellow for a delay of game until 45 games later. A game winner called back against liverpool because their player didn’t jump for the 50/50 something usually the guy not jumping gets a foul called on for, another 2 points gone. Arsenal realistically should be within 2 points of liverpool with a depleted squad but the narrative is completely different thanks to poor refereeing.
Going to ignore all the dodgy decisions Arsenal got against Liverpool? Or the decisions that went against Liverpool in other games that were admitted to be mistakes by refs, such a Robertsons sending off vs Fulham? Funny how different your own narrative is when you cherry pick. Be honest with yourself, Arsenal don’t deserve to be anywhere near Liverpool this season and assuming they would be had they not gotten their deserved reds is a deluded stretch.
I think refs shouldn't be used like a team or squad, there's too much defending each other. I also think officials on the pitch should be separate to the VAR team, and not current on pitch officials. They need to be separated immediately, get some competent individuals on the technology. I think certain laws should be re-considered, theres a few which wouldn't make it re-reffing a game. Next there needs to be a serious investigation into the standards and quality of officiating, because whether its bias/corruption and/or incompetence. It needs to be removed, we need consistency because right now its like the refs have a different rule book to everyone else. In fact its like each ref has their own rule book to each other, which means no consistency at all. Yesterday alone, we saw worse fouls which either only got a yellow or even nothing at all. Bernado silva should have been sent off, the foul on endo, joelinton as well. Just because arsenal won, doesnt make it right. What happens if the red isnt overturned by appeal? Hes missing 2 games, so the team is still penalised anyway. Honestly, im so done with all of this. As a liverpool fan, i couldn't believe doku's foul on macalister wasn't given. It was the clearest foul and penalty you could get, and yet nothing. Oliver has history, it needs to stop. He's supposed to be our best ref.
Declan Rice was rightly given a second yellow against Brighton. The only problem with that decision was we've seen plenty others who had done similar thing went unpunished. The Trossard red card was the one that shouldn't have been a red. It was less than half a second between the ref blowing his whistle and Trossard kicking the ball. His foot was already in motion in the air to kick the ball. The Saliba head clash also shouldn't have been a red. Arsenal were leading and ended up with a draw in each of those games. That's 4 points loss that will be very useful for the title run in. That's just from the red card mistakes alone. Not to mention the mistakes when their opponents should've been the one receiving the red & yellow cards for similar fouls that Arsenal got red/yellow carded for.
it was a second yellow for the foul though I was surprised people were talking about the ball being kicked away because I thought it was a yellow given for the foul he did

And don't forget that:
1. That card was given in the 8th minute of 6 minutes of extra time. These cheats were already doing everything in their power to help City equalize, and

The Gomez tackle was way more dangerous!
We as fans and rivals can’t have it both ways when it comes to support and banter choose one
Either we’re big enough to be entitled or we’re small enough for rivals to praise how good of a team we are atm.
Beautifully put 👍
Great documentation by Terry.
Solutions?
1- VAR officials independent from referee body
2- VAR officials should be rule nerds
3-The PL form its own referee body, scrap pgmol. Hire the best in class from around the globe. PL is rich enough to do this!
4- Establish independent body to monitor referee performances. Retain the best, move on the consistently subpar.
By the way, these are all feasible remedies proposed by Pedro on the Arsenal Vision podcast.
They are match fixing at will. They need to be investigated by the authorities now
Totally agree, they shouldn't keep getting away with it.
Harvert was nearly choked on the pitch one day, I couldn't believe it, the ref turned a blind eye, what a joke.
The PGMOL should be run like a league where good referees go up and bad refs go down and get less pay.
Problem is who gets to decide what's a good vs bad performance? Apparently Oliver is the PLs best referee!
All banter aside it is crazy when similar scenarios happen with other teams, ref decisions do seem on the negative side of the spectrum when it’s arsenal
Yesterday makes it 8 red cards that Michael Oliver gave Arsenal
Back when the Trossard red card happened against city I said to a friend that Oliver won’t ref another arsenal game for awhile and he’ll pop up in an away arsenal game against a lesser side later in the season. Fast forward to now he got the away game the week before arsenal plays city and instead of staying out the spotlight he went and do it again. Var didn’t overturn the card because they didn’t want to embarrass him and expose the corruption against Arsenal
It is corruption against all teams match fixing and had been happening for years and yet again this season they have done it again
And don't forget that his "punishment" for blatant match-fixing by not sending off Kovacic was to ref Arsenal vs City the very next time they met in the league. This is how you know it's corruption throughout the entire PGMOL:
- Oliver receives a blatant bribe
- Is allowed to ref Arsenal vs City anyway
- Clearly tries to influence the outcome of that match
- is given the reverse fixture less than 6 months anyway
- Influences the outcome of that match by sending off Trossard in the 8th minute of 6 added on even though he was mid-kick when the whistle was blown
If you have a blatantly corrupt ref, and yet he keeps getting put in the position to influence the outcome of key games despite damning evidence of his corruption, then clearly he's not the only one who is corrupt!
Var = legalised match fixing!

correct, ex refferee said it once, his mate was the ref and he was VAR, and He shaw that his mate had a difficult game to reff, and he saw a foul but didnt want to give his mate more difficult discission to give the player a red card so he does not call his mate to the VAR screen .

There should have been some sort of tribunal outside of PGMOL that demand answers directly from the officials of those games som they MUST answer for their decisions. There won't be a change until the refs know they will be held accountable, either by fines or matchbans.
PGMOL MUST BE INVESTIGATED.
Michael Oliver has an agenda against Arsenal in my opinion, it is always Arsenal, Oliver should never officiate an Arsenal again he is bias.
Tribalism must cease when it comes to our sport and we must band together against the shabby, shoddy, grotty state of Officiating.
What would happen if arsenal just refused to take the pitch the next time Michael Oliver is referee for another arsenal game?!
They'd lose and the game will effectively be awarded to the rival team on the day I believe.
Please do that
At least 80 percent of the players in PL are foreigners. Why not bring the best refs from other countries? At least let the VAR be handled by ref from other countries.

Will MLS be suspended for the FA Cup 4th round next month?

That Trossard was never a yellow. He had 0.5 seconds between him playing the ball to martinelli and the whistle blowing
