If you want to play Asuka, you need to get comfortable micromanaging a lot of different resources because of how much you get punished for mismanagement. No mana? You become the squishiest character in the game and you can't use special moves. No spells? You waste time and mana getting them back which gives your opponent ample time to get in. No idea what the test cases do? Asuka's test case 1 game plan is limited to exclusively zoning. Unless you're fighting very specific matchups, it's best to swap to TC 2 or 3. A couple tips. Unless your hp bar is under 1/3, it's best to pretty much always use your hp to regen mana. The costless one is EXTREMELY SLOW and never worth it. Even if your hp is low, just use your tension instead. A big part of Asuka's combo game is looping [CS -> 2HS -> (Spell) -> repeat]. Swap the CS and HS for a single 5K if you need something faster or longer. 2D is a very good neutral tool that gives you a hard knockdown on hit. Also, any spells that you cancel into from 2D will have better frame data. Despite me not really liking Strive's universal mechanics. Asuka is the most fun I've had in a fighting game. He's just a lot to manage at first.
As someone who plays slayer a decent chunk, def try to use faultless defence against him a bit more! It should help you get out of the close slash loops and after a while you need to either mappa or dandy back in, both of which lose to 6p if you're fast enough and if you're not for mappa you can grab him after it. I hope that helps you fight him a bit more so it's less painful haha
One thing I felt when playing was, as long as I managed my resources well (no fully unloading the clip) it was a generally alright time, but in the "non-spell moments" like when a character is in my face doing their thing my skill were not quite there to make up what to me were slow normals.

Gotta be as smart as Asuka to play Asuka
That goes against every fiber of my Unga Bunga code unfortunately

Oh ok I definitely have to try that.
Thanks for the advice!
i'd say asuka is really heavily based on knowing his spells and how/when to use them, otherwise he's not all that difficult
